Pentax 12-24 or 20-40 (choice down to two)

Distortion is easily corrected on Lightroom. Sharpness seemed good to me on a K-5II. If you do need a sharper ultra-wide lens, you will need to consider much bigger lenses like Sigma 18-35mm, or even switch a system for a Nikon 14-24mm.

Do you need an ultra-wide though? 20-40mm is a perfect focal range for travel.

I'm selling my DA 12-24mm f/4 because I noticed that I have not been shooting wide and ultra-wide very much lately. The lens comes with the Marumi Super DHG protection filter that I put on it as soon as I bought the lens.

Item for Sale
Pentax K-7 with DA 18-55 WR

Asking Price
275.00 USD

Item Location
Virginia Beach (United States)

Item Description
I am selling my Pentax K-7 kit with the DA 18-55 WR lens because I just bought a K-5 II. Both the camera and the lens are in perfect working condition. The glass is clean, there are no scratches on the LCD. The shutter count is 34,800. I will include the box with original accessories - battery, charger, strap, manual. The original lens hood is lost, so the lens comes with a third-party hood.

For willing takers I will also include, free of charge, a Tamron AF 70-300mm 1:4-5.8 LD lens.

Beautiful light in these late fall, winter-is-coming photos. I like all, but the first is a favorite. Large versions must be looking gorgeous. Thanks for sharing!

This is a very good photo, Chris. I love the lighting, and how the steam over the locomotive is colored like an aura. Looks like you got the timing right. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent photos, Nate. I love the first two. Great colors and textures, and shadows on the snow in the first.

Very beautiful indeed. To me, the composition appears stronger in the first image, compared to the last one. I also prefer colors in the first image compared to the second one. Thanks for sharing.

My apologies, John. I'm sure I will feel remorse when the 12-35mm WR will be announced.

The 12-24mm has been out of stock for about four months. I find it difficult to believe the standard " fallout from the earthquake" answer. Perhaps Pentax is preparing a new lens line for production. We shall soon know.

This is the Our Lady of Guadalupe church in downtown Santa Fe. It was built around 1775 or 1776, but the building has been altered several times since then - the architecture we see now dates from 1922.

Agree, it does not make much sense to pay 660-670 for a used one - I would rather rent again. In my case the seller was not trying to profit from the lens being out of stock, and the price was fair.

There is also the highly regarded Sigma 8-16mm. Too wide and not long enough for me though.

I have firmly decided to continue waiting until either 12-24 comes back in stock or a new Pentax wide-angle zoom becomes available. There was a rumor about 12-35 WR zoom about a year ago. I considered Sigma 10-20 initially, but after using the [rented] 12-24 on a recent trip decided to not compromise.

Then a nice used copy of 12-24 came to the marketplace, and I snatched it. This is what I suggest - wait, and in the meantime look for used 12-24.

Tim, this was the place where we could finally accelerate to 25 mph. It was tough slogging before that, I wished we had rented a jeep.

Thank you Dave. In reality it was exactly as you say.
