Pentax X70 - full specs and image!

If only they would update the firmware to include RAW capture, and wireless flash it could be perfect! (A hotshoe would be better, but I'd settle for wireless)

I've been looking and looking for a camera like this, smaller than a DSLR with lots of zoom range, but haven't found what I want yet. When I first heard about the x70, I hoped it would have these things... but I guess not. Truthfully, I still may buy one, but without flash compatibility I don't see much advantage to Pentax compared to any other brand. Just imagine what could have been...

... too big for me! I don't care for the size of the D300 or D3, and I laugh at all the people I know who bought them not knowing what ISO or aperture are!! :D

Even if it's announced later this year, you're not likely to be able to get your hand on one for a while after that. If you have a DSLR it COULD be worth the wait, but if this is your first DSLR you're looking at buying, got one now, and you won't miss all the great pictures you'll take between now and then!

Need recommendation for small backpack

I'd still recommend one of the Fastpack bags. If the 250 or 350 look too big, then look into the 100 or 200. I have a slingshot, and have loved it like no other bag I've had, namely because I can get to the camera without taking the bag off. The downside of the slingshot is only one strap. The fastpack looks to be a slingshot with two shoulder straps. IMO the perfect bag! Being able to access the camera from the side of the bag... well I know I'll never go back! :D

TTL cable?

I have the long (9 foot) cord, I think I paid around $50 for it, but I sure like having it. The 3 foot cord I lucked out on finding on closeout at a local camera store for $2.00, but I rarely use it. If I could only chose one, I'd get the 9 foot, but I never use a flash bracket...

Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW $69.99 @ Costco.com

I have the slingshot 200... I loved it until I got a DA* lens. Now the thing is just plain too heavy, and not comfortable at all as there is only one shoulder strap. I'm going to switch to the Fastpack 250, it's around the same size as the slingshot, especially in terms of area devoted to camera and lens storage; yet it has a slightly larger pocket above the photo area. It's got two shoulder straps, but still has camera access from the side of the bag! Also, it'll carry a laptop, and best of all, you have your choice of three colors! (Costco also has this on sale)

Best of luck to everyone out there whatever you carry your camera in, or are about to carry your camera in! :D

Make the multiple exposure mode accessible in the function menu with all the other drive modes where it belongs. Make the M/C option for wireless flash accessible in function menu under flash modes again where it belongs. Thats it...:D

I think the P-TTL wireless holds it's own. It isn't as advanced as the Nikon system, but I use two on light stands all the time on P-TTL for indoor wedding group shots.

My biggest ZX-5n gripe would be no double exposure option. Other than that it's a phenominal camera.

Poll: Official - A Poll. Do YOU have hot Pixels

I remember having hot pixels show up in my JPEG's from the K10D and the K100D I had. When I went to shooting all RAW they went away... almost like magic! I guess there could be hot pixels that would show up in my K20D, but I wouldn't know since I haven't shot JPEGs with it. Every camera has hot pixles... it's a fact of digital life. If a camera maker maps them out then all the better! RAW shooters don't have this problem... or many many others JPEG only guys have. Shooting RAW makes life happy. Can't imagine going back.

K10 + 540 Flash + Pocket Wizard

You'll need an adapter that goes in the flash's hotshoe that has a PC cord plug-in on it. Then you plug the pocket wizard into the adapter.

New camera

This is a simple suggestion, but it's worth a try. Set your camera into the sports mode and auto ISO (if the camera lets you set ISO in sports mode... if it dosen't let you choose it's in auto) - take the shot, and if you like what you see in the LCD hit info twice, and the camera will tell you exactly what the shutter speed, ISO and aperture are. I had a K100D and can tell you that especially in good daylight, high ISO's are not bad for snapshots and general use photography. If you're printing these dog photos to 20x30 and selling them to feed your family on the other hand you may need more light, like an off camera flash or shooting outside of the shade. Good luck! Let us know what you figure out!:D

I saw a ton of Nikon adds with Aston Kutcher the other night for the D60. Seems they might be worried about a growing competitor - and therefore think they need to hire a highly paid, highly obnoxious celebrity to help them push their product. I suppose that for people who will never buy more than two lenses, it's an okay starter model. Personally, I've wouldn't recommend one to a friend.

MZ-7/ZX7 or MZ-10/ZX-10?

I had a ZX-7 and loved it. It was a great little camera. I sold it when I thought I'd never use film again, and regreted it... now I have a ZX-L (MZ-6) which I love even more. The L is just like the 7 but it adds wireless P-TTl, spot meter, several custom functions and the cable switch port for the new cable switch like on the DSLR bodies. You can't go wrong with either. I also had a ZX-5, but I didn't like the fact that you couldn't do double exposures. KEH has a ton of used ZX-7's and B&H has a ZX-L

Almost Positive about FF Pentax...I think...

That's the critical question for me... or in this case can you see it? Pentax claims that currently the new sensor's pixels use 40% if their area to gather light. I would say that's room for improvement right there (I know there's a lens in front of each one which also helps). I'm sticking to my belief that in a few years APS-C will come so close to what FF is today that you won't be able to tell the difference. Yes, FF will still continue to get better, but there will come a point when APS-C will more than fill the needs of most people. If you still need more improvement, then perfect the foveon sensor, or Fuji's super pixel sensor. (I'd love to see the latter in a Pentax pro body) There will always be some advantages to FF, but there will always also be some advantages to APS-C, and I think it's been shown that APS-C is capable of producing some incredibly professional looking images.

I also have two fast fifty's, I have the FA 1.4, and the A 2.0. I really love the A, and in some cases prefer it to the 1.4, in terms of great feeling build quality. With a couple macro rings it does ok for macro work (nice to have that almost 360 degrees of focusing range) and the best part was.... I won it for $10 on e-bay. Does life get any better?? :D

Just thought this might be a fun question... I was talking with a friend last night and started wondering what percentage of Pentax owners had the 50mm f1.4. It has always seemed to me to be one of those lenses that just about everyone and their dog has just because of the price and the speed. Hope this hasn't been done before!

I just shot a 400mm at 1/15th sec. resting on a lamp post but still very shaky. I got back a shot that's sharp enough to be a keeper. (it wasn't anything interesting though... so it probably won't really be a keeper) I really love SR, and have often found situations where I notice a difference.

I just rode a bicycle 1/4 mile uphill to catch some shots for a school assignment with my 400mm 5.6. I don't want to imply that this is a compact or light lens by any stretch of the imagination, but it sure beats a 600mm f5.6 on a FF body. Also, my M 200mm f4 becomes a 300mm f4 by FF standards, not a big difference in size, but one I might appreciate on a long hike. When you start to add lenses up, the savings in weight becomes even more substantial! Take this same 400mm, 200mm, 50-135mm, and throw in a 21mm pancake for wide angle work. This beats the pants off a 600mm, 300mm, 80-200mm, and the closest thing in zoom range to the 21mm might be the 31mm Limited (couldn't complain there). In my eyes we went from a system that was a slight inconvenience at times - to one that is downright cumbersome. I'd like someone to weigh all that glass and see how it comes out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ignorant of the fact that FF can have some advantages... but for me, they don't add up to enough of an advantage to have to partially rebuild a system. ;)
