I can't fathom why anyone would ever think this was ok - wow.

Another classic dolt maneuver is putting one's butt against a car, as in leaning back on it. Not only does it distort the panel, but if they are wearing jeans and have rivets on the pockets......

I have the earlier SMC Takumar version of this lens, and it can do well. Stop it down a few clicks. You'll probably find, like most lenses, it has a sweet spot in the midway settings e..g around f8-f11. It does fringe badly wide open, so shooting in RAW and cleaning up in post is often necessary.

This. And not only don't ever ever touch, but also be really sure that nothing dangles, swings into, or otherwise somehow makes contact. And it's not without basis. Thin aluminum skins (common on many vintage hoods and trunk lids) and concourse paint can be damaged more easily than one might imagine.

In another thread not long ago, it was pointed out that the market focus for Pentax/Ricoh is in Japan, and they are doing well there. And don't forget that in these times, "well" is relative. They are doing well enough to have a GR III (which is beyond sales projections), and to announce and show the long awaited APS-C flagship, and for all appearances still tracking to release some new DFA lenses, including perhaps an f4 70-200. So, figure that while disappointing to not see them when/where/as often as we like in their marketing, they are taking a thin budget and putting it where they get a return. Don't forget in times like these, the costs of running a booth that might have no net gain in sales is competing with the R&D to bring the next camera/lens to market. I'm just happy that they are doing well enough to showcase a new model. In my view of their past releases, this is pretty bold and leading. Not bad given that the cash cow consumer market is being consumed by smart phones.

I picked up an a6000 "kit" with the 16-50 and 55-210. It's very nice, but the bottom line is it really wasn't light enough to make a difference for what I was after, which was a daily carry camera that basically lives in a messenger bag that follows me around to the office etc. So, what ended up being "the kit"? A Q-S1 with 06, 02, and 08 zooms, and it all fits in a Pentax S90-160 case. :)

Do you use software lens corrections with the FA 31, 43, and 77 Limited lenses?

I generally don't use them. I might check them out for chromatic aberration in a real high contrast situation, but for the most part, I find when I click them on, I prefer the image beforehand. I think this is one where a lot of the magic of certain designs is from their distortions. I live in an old frame house with nothing square or vertical or horizontal. When people come to visit, they say they love the feel, but they often don't seem to understand why. It's easy. Straight square boxes are cold and sterile and uninviting. Curves and waves and wiggles have appeal. I think the same occurs as you "correct" photos of all those subtle distortions.

No. Nothing I'd consider worth sharing. Been using it mostly for photos of fiberglass repair on a sailboat, but it's let me get some shots in tight spaces I couldn't get the framing I wanted with the 02 standard zoom. It's anything but art photography, but the QS-1 with this lens has been great to have for size and convenience in this role. The fun shots will come with time. :)

I recently snagged an 08 off Amazon for about $275 with free shipping. which is the lowest I've seen for a new one since I started looking (about spring before last, so almost 2 years). Not regretting it. :)

The 24-70 is a nice lens and handles well on the K-1. I find it a really good feeling combination in the hand, and not too heavy to throw over the shoulder and go off with. You also have WR. I'd be tempted to say go with that but hold on to your other lenses. If you have to wait longer to save up more to make that happen, then do so. You might find in certain situations you want some other combination. It's nice to have options. It will also help with LBA.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. I'm going to roll a little less into my next cartridge so I'll have a little extra room on the reel and can put an inch or so cut from the end of this onto it and into the tank while doing another roll.

I have one, and it with the D FA 100 macro is a pretty powerful bang for the size. I got silly and put it on my DFA 150-450, and it actually did better than cropping the same size area with my K-3 II. Tripod and good lighting being key though.

How many stops of shake reduction?

And just thinking of shake reduction makes me think of another article about someone (Canon?) having IBIS in an upcoming body. Makes you wonder where all these "reviewers" have been for years given Pentax's position.
