Yes, Mrs. Eagle was alone when I arrived, and while I was attempting to find a view that was not too badly obstructed Mr. Eagle showed up.

I adore the Love album. Since I bought it a decade ago, it's probably my most-played Beatles album.

Along Lake Musconetcong. I shot from my car, they were about 30 yards away. If I'm lucky I'll see them sporadically though April.

FWIW I've never had good luck with Pentax's focus confirmation when using long lenses. Just lots of practice.

I've never taken apart my 500/4.5, but this thread might be useful: Repair guide for Takumar 500mm 4.5 - PentaxForums.com

First time I've seen eagles sitting side-by-side.

First 2 photos taken with the Tamron Adaptall-2 400/4 65B + Pentax A 1.4x-L, last photo just the bare lens.

The Sigma SWII is a very good lens, good edge-to-edge sharpness and the close-focusing makes it a fine walk-around companion. There's a sprinkling of SWII photos in this thread: 24mm Club - Any and All 24mm - Page 12 - PentaxForums.com

There are some sample photos - including heavy crops - here: SMC Pentax 500 f4.5 - PentaxForums.com

My own experience with the lens matches what Ronald and monochrome have stated. It's not an easy lens to use, but the challenge is part of the fun and when everything goes right the images are rewarding.

Posting a sample image with EXIF intact would help us diagnose the issue.

Actually, Fuji is the digital camera brand most associated with "hipsters", and those Fuji cameras are APS-C.

I think a person is better off buying a system that does not have the bodies and glass they want. That way they can complain about the glass they "need" and there is no pressure to make good photos.

Sure. Pentax needs to sell lenses to make money. And probably new lenses designed for the K-1 will provide more impressive measurables. But certainly older lenses like the FA Limiteds and 60-250 should be sufficient for the vast majority of users until newer lenses are released.

So much this. Folks need to stop conflating "abundant" with "sufficient".

I periodically compare what's available to me in K-mount versus other brands, and when I write things down and carefully consider my wants/needs in a camera system, I find that in order to get something in another system that I currently lack I have to give up something I currently have with Pentax.

Sure, there are several advantages of the KP over the K-70, but I was clearly responding to the statement about "good results at over ISO 6000".

Dude, it's not like these lenses are huge. The are about the same size as the FA 31, and lighter.

Also, given the close-focus capability, while the lenses could be smaller, doubtful they could have been "pancakes".

Roger Cicala of Lensrentals has published his MTF measurements of various 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm lenses.

He does state, "As a general rule, the wider the lens, the more the MTF falls off away from center." The MTF data at Photodo (which is mostly for older lenses) also indicates that 50's generally have higher MTF's than wider lenses. From what I've read over the years, the necessity of a retrofocus design for wide angle lenses - kind of an inverted telephoto design - is a more difficult and delicate design than 50's and short teles.

I think it is useful for folks who dislike a "feature" to bring it to the attention of the manufacturer.

I have both a K-3 II and K-70; I prefer the output of the K-70 at higher ISO, as for my use I find the Accelerator in the K-70 does a good job balancing noise reduction and detail retention. However, my satisfaction with the K-70's output does not prevent me from acknowledging that there is indeed an unusually high amount of RAW "cooking" going on and that there is a bit of a penalty for that. Ideally, there would be the option to bypass the Accelerator, because I realize there are folks who don't want it to pre-process their images, and I respect the opinion those people.

What "facts"? I see charts that purport to show color and noise information about the imaging pipeline of the KP versus several other cameras but not the destructive nature - i.e. loss of detail - that occurs due to the KP's "Accelerator".

As a retired scientist, you should not only look at "facts" that support your own predisposition but also "facts" that may not support it.

The Photos to Photos graphic indicates there is a high amount of noise reduction occurring in the KP RAW file (relative to other cameras); so the next step would be an analysis and quantification of the penalty incurred by use of the Accelerator - the aforementioned loss of detail.
