Light Meter (Sekonic 508) it’s a fun toy

I, like you, have found a light meter to be quite useful. Mine, a Sekonic L-478D-U, gives me insight into a scenes light that a camera meter does not. ;)

I originally did just get filters for the largest size I had at the time (58mm), Thinking what would I need larger for. Then ended get another lens with a 77mm filter thread, so had to get more filters, Then later got another lens with 82mm thread, Damn, More filters....What I found is that it is easier to buy large filters and step them down than buying filters over and over....Maybe it's just me...

Second the Cactus V6ii. I use these with pentax k50, K3 and K1. Paired to Cactus RF60x flashes and/or Pentax AF540FGZii flash. Just make sure you have the Pentax firmware installed in the triggers.

Does creativity go down as format size goes up?

If your creative with a crop sensor, you can be creative with a full frame sensor. That being said. I think, when you are "Used" to a crop sensor, there is a little bit of a learning curve to full frame.

Do I NEED a full frame camera? (Please help with arguments either way...)

It seems you are looking for better low light capabilities. Now, I really don't know Jack from Jill, but I would think any new technology camera/sensor would improve on the capabilities of its predecessors. But, I do have a K1 and am quite pleased with it,... as I am with my K3 and K50, so there ya go. That's my thought for the day... ;)

Airshow lens advice

Huh, And I thought I had a lot of lenses (16). ... If I was headed to the air show I'd be taking my K3 (also have k1 & k50). Fast frame rate and buffer size, plus it's crop sensor. As far as a lens, it would be the 70-200 and I'd take the 1.4x converter. Gets you to 280mm on the lens and fov of 420 on the crop sensor. I'd flip a coin for a tripod with gimbal vs just a monopod. Then I'd just take the monopod, more mobile, less weight, smaller foot print. Might stuff a 35mm in my pocket, just cause. Just my opinion .

I would say a good sized SSD is mandatory, the bigger the better, for files that you are actually working on. Then a big standard hard drive for storage. Then a fast, top end processor. Always seems to me the processor is the bottle neck with most editing software. Any mid range graphic card will do, unless you do video or gaming, then you'll need a high end one. 16gb of ram is good, no less though. Never seen my editing software top out 16gb of ram.

K-1: Spots from soiled sensor?

Looks like a little "dust" on the sensor. Not A Numbers suggestions, or , what I do, is just remove in post. Many images they are not noticeable, others just use a spot removal tool or inpainting tool. Mine has a few more than yours. At some point I'll get a swab kit but not yet.

After shooting nothing but raw (DNG) for years I had the brite idea to do a day of JPG's. Got home and loaded in the computer to do some editing, switched back to raw. I have gotten used to having the latitude for adjustment in raw, just not available in JPG.

15-30 or 11-18?

I would love to have the 15-30 on my K1. But !!, it's big, rather weighty and expensive. So, my work around is using my sigma 10-20 on my K3 (24mp), or also on the K1 in crop mode (@16mp). Gives me the 15mm FOV @10mm . for better or worse.
