I thought discussion of price wasn't allowed. I will check on eBay for the average price and suggest a price accordingly.

Does anyone have a Pentax 18-55 at a resonable price for a friend of mine learning photography? It is to be shipped to an address in the US and payment will be made with PayPal. PM me offers.

Dude, this is the 5th or 6th time that you are replying to me. Most people get the message after two failed attempts at interaction, whereas you clearly do not. I am not interested in your opinion. Thanks for your time.

I will have to look up this intriguing definition of 'weakness' in the dictionary before I pursue this matter any further.

Nikon have a much wider line-up of cameras, including DX format with screwdrive. In other words: you have the option of downward mobility if that is what you want. Some people want it - others could not care less. Nikon cater to both. I don't see that as a weakness.

Perfectly all right by me, mate. Investigate the matter online and you will conclude as follows: people certainly disagree.

There are several factors:

(i) how shaky are your hands?
(ii) does your lens balance well?
(iii) do you perhaps have a camera with faulty SR?
(iv) are you a fanboy unwilling to admit the limitations to your system?
(v) have you actually bothered to carry out rigorous comparisons?

My point is that there is no clear-cut answer. I have carried out the mentioned experiment because I am considering buying into a second system without IBIS.

Worry not, life can be could good without SR as well; plenty of happy testimonies from Canikon users.

Dude, I think thoughts like these on a daily basis. At the end of the day, only you know what is in your own best interest. Your 4-lens line-up looks excellent to me. So, yes, your thinking makes perfect sense. Just do it.

It certainly does in my case when I go below 1/10. In practical terms, I hardly ever go that slow, and I did so consistently for experimental purposes only.

That is correct, but that does not detract from their optical quality. In my view, IS, SR, VR, IBIS, or whatever you call it is really helpful for videography, but for still photography its value is limited. From my personal experience, SR makes a difference between shutter speeds of 1/50 and 1/10. If I go slower than 1/10, I get steadier shots with SR off. You could try that experiment yourself at extremely slow shutter speeds.

What a strange thing to say. If by high quality you mean how a lens is built, then yes: Canikon have nothing to match Pentax in terms of APS-c. If by high quality you mean the optical performance, then it s highly doubtful that Canikon lag behind Pentax. Nikkor 35mm 1.8 and Nikkor 40mm 2.8 are optically brilliant lenses offering you far better value for money than the DA limited line-up.

How well or how poorly he does in terms of representing Pentax is a matter of opinion. I actually think his task would be more worthwhile if he did his proselytising among Nikonites and Canonites. Preaching to converts is quite pointless. By the way, he was not selected directly by Ricoh as ambassador. It was Focus Nordic who thought it might be a good a idea to get this guy to promote a segment of their products. I know the Scandinavian languages, so I have a reasonably clear overview of what this guy is up to.

It wasn't difficult to track you down online. I see you are a Pentax ambassador. So you trudge online forums, gleefully pointing out to people that you know something they don't. Is that your idea of representing Pentax? And frivolously telling people you will kill them if they found out about what you know? I am seriously gonna have a word with Pentax about you.

To paraphrase someone else here: Pentax need full frame much more than I need it. If it costs €1200+, I will be out of the reckoning.

My point was that every entity has an overriding objective. Heise has a specific objective just like pentaxforums. In the case of pentaxforums that objective should be self-evident, whereas in the case of heise the dividing line between salesmanship, research, and journalism is consistently blurred, and they are perfectly transparent about it. They will do the bidding of the big boys because the big boys pay them well. And they will often promote German manufacturers, which I think is great.

The big boys pay them for publicity. No surprises here. That's how the world works.

And it's not like they ignore Pentax; their review of the K-S1 was generally favourable.

Heise can't be blamed for concentrating on items that will generate increased readership. They wish to maximise their revenues and I doubt that Pentax are of much help in this respect.

If you wish to be consistent, you should also be blaming pentaxforums for not giving equal attention to Sony or Samsung.

The screen has a much larger frame than the screens on Nikons, Lumixes, and Samsungs. And it is also smaller. Maybe because of weather-sealing?

WI-Fi and flip-out screen are must haves on con-/prosumer cameras. This camera will be competing with the likes of d5500 and 700d. Weather-sealing, if it has it, could well tip the scale in its favour. This looks like a great APS-c camera; well done, Ricoh.

---------- Post added 02-06-15 at 13:03 ----------

Yes, this is definitely the camera K-S1 should have been. But, on the other hand, for those who don't need flip-out screen and Wi-Fi, the K-S1 is still a fine camera. Personally, I have never missed a flip-out screen, but the lack of WiFi certainly was beginning to get to me, especially after I acquired a tablet.

Hopefully they will leave the 4k out in another model and sell us the same sensor for even less money.
