Batteries

With my 645Z i noticed it was eating batteries. Then i noticed that i was still using batteries acquired at the time of my 645D purchase. Dated 2009 , 2010 , 2011. So , I then ordered two Watson batteries. Those work even less well than old pentax batteries. Useless, garbage. So now I got hold of a new pentax battery dated late 2016. So far so good.

So , fellow 645Z shooters, how long do you keep your batteries in service? Three years?

many of us, myself included, don't really trust our copies between 130 and 160 mm for much of anything stellar. just sort of mushy. great at 80 to 120 mm !

Canon EF Mount lens on a 645??

i was stirring the pot a little bit. i know the OP wants to use his canon glass on pentax 645 AND his canon FF. not possible. my point was more that many canon lenses do in fact have an image circle that covers a 44mm circle. i have a canon FD 600mm f4.5 that i shoot on pentax 645Z. it was at some point chopped up for cinema use and covers 44mm quite comfortably.

Question about 600mm A-star lens with 645z

just to be clear, your 67 400mm edif lens plus 1.4 converter is only one pound heavier than the 645 600mm.

---------- Post added 02-09-17 at 12:45 AM ----------

i use the 67 400mm edif lens myself. sometimes with converter. its and amazing combo.

you mention that you would put a converter on the 645 600. in that case don't rule out the 67 800mm.......

take a small towel or such in to the hikes. sequoia park can be very fickle this time of year. mornings of frozen everything, bathed in blue light. 9 am full sunlight melting recent snowfall VERY quickly. quite a mess under 300 foot trees.

Yes it was a cinema lens in a past life. Was hoping to get this focal length to cover the pentax 44x33mm chip but as you can see from the test it doesn't quite make it. We have access to three of these. They are older glass and designs so optically they perform as the pentax 67 lenses do for us on our Z and D cameras.

Both! I got rid of any and all 300mm lenses for this system and kept the 645 FA 400mm 5.6 and the P67 400mm EDIF 4.0. One is light and slow with acceptable quality and the other is heavy , fast , and OMG quality........

I also could not imagine they would make an f4 lens that didn't look good until f8. That was in 2010 when i got the 645D , now I know that all the 645 glass except the DFA 28-45 and DFA 90mm look blurry until about f8...........

if you set that zoom lens to 50mm you will not get a 4 stop. maybe a 4.5 , more likely a 5.0 .
also, a slow zoom lens like that is generally going to be made of cheaper glass than the prime lens. the prime should appear to have less depth because the in focus bits will be sharper. the zoom lens will have a mushier look , but with more apparent depth.

FA 120mm Macro vs FA 80-160

my copy of the 80-160 FA is great at 80 to 120 and then just gets sad and droopy as you continue on into 160. I actually avoid shooting over 120 when ever possible. Others here have also remarked that their 80-160 is much better at the wide end.

I keep a P67 200mm f4 for moderate telephoto work. Needs to be stopped down to around 11 or 13 for critical work.

I have never tried a 120 macro.
