I have also found the A28 challenging to use. The issues that I find most difficult are the short focus throw that makes it hard to nail focus and this is particularly bad towards infinity. In talking with others I get the impression that this lens works better as a walk around street lens than it does for landscapes for example.

As the poll is in place, I will leave things as is for simplicity, but I think I will need to disqualify the image for this round. If it ends up in the top 4 of voting, I will adjust the winners list accordingly. While I could pull it now, it doesn't help anyone who has already voted for it, vote for another. If anyone has a better suggestion for how to handle this, I'm all ears.
I would love to see you enter this image in the next round. I can see that this was an accidental oversight, and this isn't the first time an image was submitted outside the range of the particular month.

Understood. I've enjoyed using the K200 because I haven't shot much telephoto, and the 35-135 surprised me by how good it is. But the DA21 was fun from the moment I started using it, and in many ways a lot easier to use and get usable images than the other two lenses.

Is there ever a thread that has more than just a couple of replies that does not wander around a bit or even go way off topic at times? :)
I think Lowell raised one feature that would be nice - and when I started with Pentax P-TTL drove me mad so I stopped using it - but I don't think the discussion is limited to flashes but rather things we'd love to see in a Pentax camera.

Do you have any sense of how often you have made use of that capability? When I first got my K5, I used the onboard flash with an improvised diffuser for macro shots and I've used it as a fill flash when shooting faces in partial shade. I can't say I've used it that often recently, and it does give many images a specific look that isn't always pleasing, but I know I would want to have at least one body that had that capability. My full flash only travels with me when I'm certain I'm going to use it.

Zoom lenses are permitted as long as the image was taken within the focal length range. And they can be entered more than once for each range they qualify for. :)

Oh that would be amaaaaaaazing. I think it is the one feature I miss in my K5, and I know focusing is still a skill I need to work on.

The kit currently in my bag are a DA 21 Limited, Adaptall 40A 35-135 and a K200/4. Some of us like variety :)

Good question. I personally have no idea. I've not bought anything new of substance since I acquired my K-5 almost a decade ago. The only exception was a few accessories from B&H when I could pick them up in the US. There are others who I know buy gear more regularly who will be able to answer.
One section to check out is the Toronto sub-group. It hasn't been active for a while since it was mainly used for meeting up, but it might be a good place to post your question. Toronto Pentaxians - PentaxForums.com |

Can't say it any better than that. Tough lighting situation and you've nailed it in all the contrasts

Lots of Pentax shooters from the GTA on the forum, so we'd be happy to have you join us. This is a great place for info and was invaluable to me when a salesman suggested Pentax to me almost a decade ago.

I picked up at 40A because it was attached to a PKA adapter, but I've been surprised by how sharp it is. I haven't had a chance to put it to a real test. Today I managed a few photos in the hour between rain storms (expected to last a couple more days). So the lighting wasn't ideal. But the focal length range came in very handy at times. I probably need to do a bit more post-processing to get the colours closer to what I was seeing, but today wasn't about bright colours. |

The goal of this contest is to show off some special feature of a lens, whether it is a fish eye, bokeh monster, super starbursts, perfect for reversing, super sharp, dreamy colors, super fast wide open aperture / narrow depth of field, creative use of vignetting etc. Time to vote on the entries from round 2, covering 21-27 mm.
1. An unusual focal length, that is sharp, accurate, colorful, and gives smooth bokeh
2. The perfect walk around lens
3. Prime performance in a WR zoom
4. A reliable workhorse that gets the job done. A favourite and clearly much loved lens.
5. Flexibility around a 'normal' angle of view while providing Limited like image quality in a compact, lightweight and unobtrusive package
6. More love for a lens used for shooting birds or landscape, with superb colors and sharpness
7. Showing off the power of a Limited |

That sounds like a fascinating project. I may have to consult with you on some of the species I'm seeing just up the road.
My last purchase was a K200/4 and I've been practising with it at a local duck pond. I passed up on a K200/2.5 because I thought the extra weight would keep me from using it often, and it was probably the right choice. I bought it because I've always loved my K135/3.5 - another growing fan of the K series. I wanted something at the longish end because I've never been satisfied with my A70-210 at the long end.
My second last purchase was an Adaptall-2 40A (35-135/3.5) because it was attached to a PKA adapter, but the lens has been surprisingly sharp and fun to use.

I'm glad you replied. While a future version of this contest might put a time limit on how old an image can be, in this inaugural round it is open to any time frame. So if you don't get a chance to go out, I hope you can dig through your archives.

Hi,
I don't know if I've changed something in my search settings, or the forum has changed, but something is no longer as it was :(
I used to be able to search the lens reviews with terms like "50" or "50 f2.8" and get various lenses to come up. Some times it would include lenses that seemed to have nothing to do with the search terms I used. However, now, no matter what term I use I'm not getting any hits. So I can't tell if something in my default search conditions has changed, or something on the back end is no longer working.
Thanks.

Thanks Jer. It is somewhat ironic. I spent a lot of time wanting to buy wide angle lenses, and picked up a few including a DA 21, which I immediately loved using. I had a chance to buy a K200/2.5 but I thought the weight would keep me from using it often, and because of my so-so relationship with my A70-210 and F100-300, I have shot very little telephoto. But this lens is a joy to use that it has been the main lens on the camera since I got it.
Thank you kindly. I'm please with what I was able to get before my fingers hurt too much. And the last shot was taken as I was heading away from the duck pond. It was too interesting of a scene not to pull the camera out again and fire it up.
