He likes to be fluffy in the morning sun. Someone I spoke to suggested that a whole family of Nightjars lives in the hollow. I'm not sure what the evidence was, but it's an amusing thought that they might be taking turns to sit in the sun.

I have no experience with it., so I don't really have an opinion on it. ---------- Post added 18-04-21 at 01:29 AM ----------
There's genuine chip shortages. :)

It's nice to know that it's not just Pentax with component shortages.

I did consider buying an XT-4 or an XS-10 for video, but having to buy a new set of lenses and probably an expensive gimbal changed my mind. The Fujifilm cameras seem to be very capable, but I have too much invested in Pentax lenses.
I don't know that this is entirely fair, but the reviews I've seen suggest that the Fujifilm weather sealing isn't great. I don't know whether the camera bodies are as solidly built as the K3iii. On top of the $2115 for the XT4 body, I'd be forking out another $1650 for a 16-55 WR lens, or $1600 for a 10-24 WR lens. So $2715 for the camera and lens, then another $1300 for the gimbal, which is $4015. Buying the XS-10 would save about $750. Instead, I bought a camcorder and a K3iii, and I can use my existing lenses.

I take this to mean that all the initial shipment of black K3iii bodies has been sold (pre-ordered), but the stock of silver bodies has not (still has a date). There's still dates showing on the premium kits for both black and silver, so they aren't sold out. Either way, the stock is not expected to arrive at CRK until 30 Apr 21 hence the date. I was hoping to see a camera this month, but it sounds like it won't arrive until the first week of May at the earliest. :( You could still order the black body K3iii, but the date for the next shipment isn't known. That's my interpretation, anyway. :o

I'm not sure. I know bobucks from Lamington National Park. I know they're found in Victoria but I'm not sure about the ACT, oddly enough. The Canberra nature map has only one unconfirmed sighting on Bendora road last month. I need to do some spotlighting!

Well done! I also have an old mirror lens, but I gave up using it because the focus was razor thin and it was hard to place it in the right spot. :(

I think any AF system is going to have a problem distinguishing that subject from the background due to camouflage and low contrast between the two, but should be able to focus on the tree itself. Nevertheless I'm hoping that I'll be able to use something other than centre spot AF with the K3iii. I can't wait to try it out with the DFA 150-450! :)

Nice! The Australian "magpie" isn't related to the European magpie or the Oriental one at all. As far as I know, it acquired its name purely because it's black and white (although we also have Magpie-Larks, Currawongs, Butcherbirds, Choughs and others which are black and white!).

Fabulous detail! Sadly I haven't seen too many snakes since I got decent digital camera gear. Great shot!

I prefer the second - it highlights the reflections really beautifully.

Your Magpie is so much more colourful than the one in the UK! I tried to get a photo of a UK magpie, but didn't succeed. They usually disappeared loudly on sight. Great photo!

I'd like to try a high end EVF as well. I just bought a Sony camcorder, and the resolution of the EVF makes it really hard to find things like birds in the distance in order to zoom in on them. I imagine there would be a similar problem with an EVF on a mirrorless camera with a long zoom or telephoto lens if the EVF resolution is low. OK, the majority of use cases for a camcorder will be wide angle, but it's a bit pointless putting a 10x zoom lens in it if it's really hard to use. In the case of the camcorder, the argument would be to use the swivel screen, but personally I dislike doing that. :hmm: So I'd like to see what it's like using an EVF on a mirrorless camera with a long lens.
