The FA 50/1.4 is a bad lens at large apertures, very soft between 1.4-2.4

The best is definitely the FA 50/1.7 . The 43 ltd is also a very nice lens but it is terrible wide open.

What lens not too expensive for video?

I consider 1/125 as optimal for my videos too. I don't use continuous auto focus. I personally shoot videos with the DA 21. The Samyang 20 would be nice if you want the extra stops. But it is quite bulky and you would have to go manual focusing. For low light - night videos I use the FA 35.

probably the problem with the pixel shift image comes because the clouds are moving, not because they are in the highlight region.

Full-frame (FA) lens on an APS-C body

No specific advantage, just that there are two good FA lenses, the FA 35/2 and 50/1.7 and the limiteds. But the DA 35 and 50 have come to replace them on aps-c.

Pentax SMC DA 35mm F2.4 AL as a walk around and trip lens

On aps-c the 50 is nice for portraits and the 35 for street photography. For short distances like family photography you need a wide angle like the 21.

Your opinion on DA 50mm F1.8 vs FA 50mm F1.4

DA 50/1.8 is almost like FA 50/1.7, it is a very nice lens much better than the 50/1.4 up to f/4.

I personally wouldn't go with the XS since it can have no hood.

simple photography talking, the xs is a bad lens since it can have no hood. The 40 ltd is a very good lens.

Pentax Firmware - Ever going to add features?

You are right, it's a shame that they don't support older cameras with firmware updates. I would like to see all those new jpeg corrections (vignetting, diffraction) in my K-x and K-01, as well as support for more Pentax lenses. At least the FA primes (FA 35/2, FA 50/1.7) should be supported for jpeg corrections.

the 50/1.7 is a nice lens. you need a wide angle too, go for the 21 limited.

I am pretty happy with the K-01. Perhaps they make a K-02 aps someday.
What I want is a firmware update for the K-01 but they have stoped supporting it.

---------- Post added 30th Mar 2017 at 19:30 ----------

why not? it is very nice as a milc too. it is silly when they say that the K-01 is very big to be a milc. in fact it is much smaller than dslrs. only it is not petite like a compact camera but that's for better because petite cameras don't stand well in the hand.

if you find a cheap dedicated film scanner for MF go for it or else don't bother.

The 40 is superior to the 18-135, it shows in the images you uploaded too, it is crisper. I am not sure what you do not like about it, perhaps the shallower depth of field? Since you have the 40 you wont need the 35. Other than that the 35 is a very nice lens.

Which Pentax (K) 135mm for Film Bodies

I am quite pleased with my K 135/3.5. I am generally pleased with my K primes. I only have the 40/2.8 and 85/2 of the M series. They are both nice lenses but I suspect the K series are in generally superior to the M counterparts.

Limited Primes or 20-40?
Posted By climit

The 20-40 is nice because it is not bulky. Thow I prefer the very small primes. For close distance I use the DA 21, for general photography the DA 40. The 70 is nice for portraits, though I have other lenses for this purpose too and anyway don't do frequently. I usually have one body with the 21 and one with the 40. If you don't have two bodies you can go for the 20-40, it's convenient. They say the HD 21 is sharper wide open than the SMC 21. The 40 and 70 are quite similar.

Pentax F 50mm f1.7 or .........?

The FA 50/1.7 - I own one- is just a perfect lens. The same stands for the FA 35/2. They are both between my favorite lenses. I think the new DA 35/2.4 and 50/1.8 are the same. So you'd probably better go for the DA versions.

I like my K-x for it's small diamensions. Later Pentaxes are quite bulky compared. Perhaps you should look for a Panasonic to complement it.

To me K-01 is the perfect camera. I've read many reviews on it, they give it 3.5/5 stars. I give it 5/5 stars. Depends what you are looking of a camera.
