From those that do their own repairs, Lens element cleaning advice?

The streak is in my opinion something not being removed by the solvent in the wipes or by mechanical means. Maybe try methanol if you have it unless this element is coated.

I used my p30t quite a lot. Love seeing the p3n's labeled as NEd b/c that's my name. I like the look of this series with F lenses.

My boss/coworker worked at Kodak thru the 90's in metallurgy. I recently dug up a DCS200 at work rescued from our old research lab before it got leveled. It has pcmcia I seem to remember. We got talking about the awesomeness that was the Kodak research building (83?). The first digital camera I ever used was a DC50.

Ricoh lens re coating service!

I agree cleaning would be paramount. Also most coating labs would serve the eye glasses industry, so the trays, lens holders, etc. would be set up for 'uncuts', say about 50mm or so diameter. I've thought about this, as I've been to our local lab called Optogenics on an interview once. But this is all academic.

Pentax auto 110 super slr - film advance lever is stuck need advice

Will the wind lever work with no film in it? Will it move out to 90 degrees from the back. Is the shutter stuck partly open? Not much to go wrong mechanically. I have the non super 110. I am guessing the linkage to the cog which advances the film is in the base of the body.

I hear you, had a Pentax P30t (which I took some great pics of the Whitby abbey with), & the K70 is my first digital slr. Aside from Whitby, I was in Newcastle in 1990. Caught a bit of Tina Turner in Gateshead with the Geordie hooligans I was with. The K70 will make you want rather need more and better lenses.

Automation of focus stacking

I run a (very expensive) focus stacking microscope, Keyence VHX-5000. Setting top & bottom is exactly how it operates, with manual number of images or full auto. It moves the entire camera & lens together. I think knowing the dof for every lens & aperture would be prohibitive, so you'd want to stick to one lens. Of course Keyence know the dof of their lenses at each power. I've wondered how the OM-D EM-1 did it, maybe only with zukio lenses.

I have no regrets with the k70. If it said nikon on the front it would sell out. The px's are the 2 heaviest on the list. My main gripe is crippling the astrotracer by requiring the add on. It only needs to know lat-long-bearing which could be keyed in.

at least the sabres aren't terrible right now. No one wants to catch a lake effect storm. Last year we got caught in Pulaski heading back to Syracuse. I can vouch for the K70. Just used it at the 1890 Wickwire house in Cortland. I do not like having to rely on focus peaking and or af for low light, lacking split prism.

the past week yielded an Auto 110 with a 24mm lens, hiding on a thrift store shelf for $2. Also, for work, a Smith Victor copy stand with panel lights. Seems perfect for my macro work as it has a scale grid. Not as stout as our trusty old polaroid mp3.

My latest is a Sinar Norma with 9x12/4x5 back & 12" f6.3 Kodak Ektar on a Ilex shutter. (bit longish for 4x5) Years ago I picked up a bunch of 4x5 double holders I thought my father could use but they fit the Sinar back. My first large format. Need lots of learning on the ground glass before I start exposing film.

Amateur Microscope Photography

I will try to answer you without seeming down putting or confusing. I get paid to do microscopy, but I am still learning.

Do consider what you want to image. Insects? Minerals? Shiny? 1cm wide? 1mm wide? Aside from providing magnification, lighting through the objective lens is possible with some (more expensive) scopes. This is what the scope in the video does, as compared to a typical biological microscope that can only do 'transmitted' light from below. A typical stereoscope can only provide incidental lighting. This would be the same as using a macro lens, which may not be a bad way to start. Macro lenses that do 1:1 mag, using a 24 megapixel aps-c sensor provide about 4 micron resolution. (assuming perfect sharpness) Plenty for most home gamers. This wasn't what you were asking but hope it helps.

To the point: C mount thread (or CS same thing sort of) is what's used to fit cameras to microscopes. I'm still learning about physically adapting. In my brief experience there seems to be multiple 'standards' for the camera adapter tube. There are adapters for the eyepiece which may be the best bet. Make sure to get the correct diameter. These seem to have T mount thread, so you'd need a T mount to K adapter. Then you wouldn't need the trinocular port. But the whole point of a stereoscope is to hold the occulars in front of your eyes the rest is kind of just like a macro lens or not even that good.

I think the challenge is finding a microscope that suits your goals. In the video, the mag isn't even that high I think. I'm guessing that microscope has a beam splitter for lighting. Please avoid buying a cheap microscope & spending lots on adapters. Buy a good microscope & learn microscopy.

I rue the day walmart (i have lots of names for that store but keeping it friendly) decided to print with Fuji instead of Kodak. Wouldn't have saved Kodak but it's another nail in the coffin. Don't forget Kodak prototyped maybe the first digital camera but made missteps. As I live in Syracuse, plus my father went to RIT in the 60s for graphic arts, and I just picked up a Sinar Norma 4x5 with an Ektar lens, I am hugely hugely in support of this.

plus one for the K70, my only complaint is it would be great to have a quick way to switch 'use aperture ring' to enable for all my manual lenses. I learned a lot on my P30t. Thought I would use my existing zooms but quickly outgrew them. The k70 is making me get better lenses, which actually make me like the P30t more.

Plastic - Why so much shy-away, hatred?

plastic snaps rather than bends.... I disagree, but I do materials testing. Get some uhmw or delrin, try to snap it. some gears are polymer for wear, sound/vibration, & sometimes planned failure. My p30t has a lot of polymer coating & is amazingly tough.
any product depends completely on manufacturing of the material. a company may change to a cheaper supplier & only do basic incoming inspection.
