I just went to the D3, but it wasn't easy, and I'm having some trouble giving up my K-5.

No regrets on the D3 though, that camera is amazing.

Pentax Full Frame - An official statement from Pentax (they listened!)

One reason why I plan to switch to full-frame (and I think the last time I was active on this forum, I actually didn't care whether or not Pentax created a full-frame camera) is because I'm shooting sports now with the K-5 and the 50-135, and I'd like to have a narrower depth of field to blur the background more and make the foreground pop better. Shooting with the 50-135 wide open is like shooting a 70-200 at f/4 on a full-frame.

Here are some more: Black macaque takes self-portrait: Monkey borrows photographer's camera | Mail Online

but I don't think the main concern was proving to skeptics that it happened. Besides, how is "Monkey steals camera and takes self-portraits" magnitudes more interesting than "Holy crap, look how close this guy got to these monkeys"?

Getting beat up would be putting it lightly: Chicago Indymedia: Chicago Cops Found Guilty of Jamming Screw-driver Up Rectum of 20-Year-Old Black Man

You can rail against the system all you want, I won't stop you. Yes, they're in the wrong. Yes, they're bullies. However, I prefer not having screwdrivers jammed into my butt.

In 2005, Ng's prototype took a 16mp camera and produced a 0.09mp image.

My guess is that this camera won't be for making prints, and will be geared towards creating images meant to be viewed on a computer.

Nick, I would email the photography-minded professors here: TECHNOCULTURE STUDIES > FACULTY/STAFF

It's the technoculutural studies department at UC Davis. If they don't have the answer, they can probably point you to someone that does.

Smells like trolling to me. Why would weather sealing be important? Are you shooting the model in a rainforest?

Agreed! Sometimes I worry that I get a little too obsessed with taking shots at the bean, but when I got the fisheye, it was one of the first things I thought of shooting. I have some pics from underneath that are just mind-bendingly bizarre (but they don't quite work for me yet, so I'll be taking another stab at them)

No, the battery is irreplaceable because I think the battery in there corroded and I can't open the compartment. I also picked up a Mamiya 645 and I don't have the metering prism for that, so I'm probably just going to get a light meter one of these days. For now, I kind of like the challenge of training my eye to figure out the right exposure value.

I have a K-5 as my main camera and I have a K1000 for back-to-basics film, but I'd like to get a film camera with autofocus that I can use my FA 50/1.4 and Tamron 28-75 with.

I've never shot film that wasn't all manual (and I can't replace the battery on my K1000, so I don't even have a meter), so I don't know what bells and whistles I might be missing out on, but I'm leaning towards the most bare-bones model I need (read: super cheap), but I'm a little overwhelmed by the options.

Suggestions? Warnings?

Thanks in advance

DSLRs are nice cameras. That's why we use them. The average person uses a point and shoot because they want to take snapshots, not create photographs. Point and shoots predate digital, btw. This isn't a new phenomenon.

It's after the fact, but I didn't read this thread until just now. I'll throw my 2 cents in just in case someone else reads this thread because of the same dilemma.

And my answer is .... it doesn't matter. Break the analysis paralysis. Flip a coin. Buy a random lens. Get the 31. Get an old m42 lens and an adapter. It doesn't matter. You can be ecstatic with whatever you get, as long as you go out and shoot with it. No lens is perfect, no collection of lenses is perfect, but there are photos out there to be taken with every single lens you can put in front of your camera.

Now, If you don't care about taking photos and just want to have sweet gear, then get the 31.
