Macro Lenses Suggestions

I am really surprised no one has said anything about the Takumar 50mm and 100mm MACRO lenses. They do such a phenomenal job with Macro work. Even more so when you add them to a bellows or extension tubes.

I made myself take it on a date the other day. Yeah it is heavy but I told myself it was the only lens I was allowed take to shoot with for the afternoon at the lake. Forced me to look long but even at 25-30 feet the photos were really nice.

Adam is correct.

While hooking an HDMI cable to some enables you to use a monitor or TV while shooting this model instantly reverts to play back only mode when you hook a cable to it.

DFA* 50/1.4 compared to 8 other Pentax 50/1.4 lenses

Funny I do not see this at all.

Like art it is subjective. I feel the Takumar's are clearly superior in all aspects. Better movement, better glass, more character of image, lower price.
If the older lenses have an advantage through aperture ranges in how much they can do more with one lens that the DFA can, how is the DFA then superior in all aspects?

Mine doesn't heat up at all. It doesn't take much in the way of milliamps to push the signal to a monitor. As a matter of fact it is doing it all the time it is just there is no cord to transfer the signal until you plug it in. There is no switch on the plug that allows or impedes the signal output.

If you hold it above the monitor gravity does the rest ...:lol::lol:

I have mine hooked to a 50 inch television. I love it. So handy for indoor macro work. Any monitor or HDMI capable television will work in this situation.

I have never once heard an M42 lens, "click" when "screwing" it on the camera. There is nothing on the lens that would "click". The only clicks I hear are from the aperture ring or my shutter.

What do people mean by hearing a click on a screw thread?

Maybe I lost the hearing in my three ears.:o:o:o

Came across this doing some reading. From what I understand the AF issue was fixed with the firmware update of the flash.

They are all very nice but Number 2 caught my eye the most. Have you ever thought about using filters to stop down about 10 stops or so and then allowing the shutter to remain open to really accentuate the movement of the clouds? Everything would still be focus and you could play with the colors a bit if you wanted to but you would really capture the movement of those clouds.

I think you are correct I should do this. I'm a bit lazy at times LOL I'll need to go and make a list of all the lenses and what I paid for them. I'm a novice and still have so much to learn but I have found its an awfully good amount of fun shooting in manual mode and with such wonderful old lenses.

I would like to thank everyone who commented about this. I appreciate the help and clarification on the cables and my error in thinking the USB was proprietary.

Having the HDMI hooked to my TV makes it much easier to see my focus when I experiment with Macro work than going off the back LCD.

OK that is odd because so far everything I have read told me that the USB was proprietary.

Thank you everyone for the reply. I will look for the USB cable (I-USB7)
AV cable (I-AVC7) on amazon or KEH

OEM cables for the K-5

Hello everyone:

I have been looking around and I am having trouble find OEM (original) USB and HDMI cables for the K-5. I am not opposed to 3 party cables but it is my understanding that the Pentax used a proprietary pc/av plug on their USB cable so not just any one will do.

Could someone steer me in a direction to find replacement cables for both USB and HDMI? I have had no luck on EBAY or AMAZON as most look like they are not the right size even when they say they are supposed to fit Pentax.

Thank you

I wanted to update this. I have been acquiring a few Takumar lenses. Their price fits my budget and I have fallen in love with what lovely photos they can create.

I found a lovely 55mm 1.8 ( 2$ ) to go with my 50mm 1.4 an acquaintance gave me. The 55 had some fungus but I got some tools, took it apart and cleaned the lenses and it take lovely photos.

I work for a huge corporation that made over 88 billion dollars last year. Unfortunately they only pay me 13 dollars an hour to take in a million dollars of inventory a week LOL Go figure. I'm an amateur at photography but at 56 years old I told myself I needed to learn something new so I bought a Pentax K-5 for me and a K-x for the wife About ten lenses ( and a friend gave me a super nice Spotomatic with a Soligor 35mm, Takumar 135mm and Takumar 50mm) and I love them.
