What DA* PRIMES would you like PENTAX to make?

Samyang 35mm f/1.4 :p Judging from the DA*55/1.4, the Pentax DA*30/1.4 is probably gonna be huger! I hope Samyang can make something of a more reasonable size.

Nikon SB-28 or AF-360 FGZ? Suggestions?

Hi, I have 2 SB-28s. I really like them for strobist work with Cactus triggers. $75 is a good deal for one. They do not have a built-in optical slave. Only SB-26s have that.

With SB-28 on camera, you can use the Auto mode on the flash. It does a reasonable job. I never used a Pentax flash so I cannot compare. The ability to swivel is essential if you plan to take photos in the portrait orientation (and the ceiling/walls are too far or have a strange color). You can make your own flash reflector like a Lite-Scoop then you're set for all kinds of indoor gatherings/events.

That must be a Collapsible Summicron 50mm f/2 on the right! It can only be good news if Pentax is having an alliance with Leica :p

Why did you choose the k200 over the competition (e.g., Canon XSI)??

I was considering XSI vs K200D and the rebate did it for me. For the same price of the XSI, I could get K200D plus the DA 16-45mm lens (after selling the kit lens). I don't have the better lenses so I cannot compare, but I really like the color from that lens. The XS is a bit too expensive for its features right now. If the price goes down I think it would be a good competitor to the K200D.

I wrote the following after a few weeks of using the K200D. Summarizes my initial reactions to the camera:

The daylight setting is for light shining directly on the subject. In this scene, there is strong green light both from light reflecting from the grass and also from light filtered throw the leaves, which are unaccounted for by the daylight setting. I would recommend shooting in auto white balance unless you see something weird in your photos.

I did exactly that to get a feel myself. In terms of image quality, I did some brick wall shots and found that the kit lens II is softer than the 16-45 until f8, then they are about even. Contrast of the 16-45 is better. Vignetting of the kit lens II is visible at 18mm wide open and gets better until f8 when it's gone. Vignetting of the 16-45 is about 1/4 as obvious.

In terms of usage, the 16-45 is big compared to kit lens II. It takes some time to get used to the weight and size for me. Kit lens II feels more low key and is better for candids because of the reach. 16mm vs 18mm is huge difference if you're in a room. The manual focusing ring of the kit lens II is easier to find than the 16-45 (because it turns during auto focus, have to let go and find it again every time). The lens cap of the 16-45 is poorly designed because it's impossible to take off when I put the hood on.

On other major point that might only apply to me, is that my kit lens II front focuses seriously in indoor yellow light. My manual focus green dot also FFs in yellow light when coupled with my A50/1.7 so I believe it's the camera (or just Pentax AF in general). The 16-45 does not FF in the same light, so either it's something with the design, or my 16-45 is faulty! In natural light, both lens focus perfectly.
