Pentax repair by Eric Hendrickson

Does anyone have some more info on Eric?

I sent my KX off months ago and according to the tracking it's been stuck in a Post Office in Knoxville since the 29th of June!

I emailed him three weeks ago to ask him what the Covid/Post situation is like over there so I can get a bit more information/get things moving and I haven't heard back from him?

Is this normal to not hear from him for this long? I got a reply with my first initial contact...? Just getting a little worried that my KX is lost forever as it's an heirloom of my father's!

Should I purchase an old manual lens with 'minor middle element blacking loss.'?

I don't have it yet, but the seller said he'd take some shots and send them to me to see. Btw, how much did it cost to get that lens re-furbed?

Sorry guys! Forgot to mention that it's an SMC 28mm f3.5 K version. $230 Aussie dollars and relatively local :O

Seller says that there's no indication of a loss of performance in the produced shots and is also willing to take some test shots & send them to me so I can see for sure.

My question is, is this something that can worsen over time? Is this something that can be repaired?

I'm getting back into photography after some time away and never really learn't about what goes on inside the lens in terms of engineering, only the way light behaves etc so blacking is something that I don't know much about.

What do you fine folks think?

EDIT: Should have mentioned that it's an SMC 28mm f3.5, K version.

Can I rig a KX up for live view video monitoring via RCA cables to a computer?

Weird question I know, and I know technically the KX doesn't have the code for it.

But can I connect an RCA AV cable out of the camera into an RCA AV to HDMI and then into a laptop? (Or cheap tv?)

I want to be able to shoot vlog kinda stuff and this is the only camera I've got on me at the moment. I don't need to adjust ISO or any white balance via a usual tethering system, I just need to be able to see myself on a laptop screen or something to make sure I'm in focus!

Which brings me to my next question, if I can do the above with that cable configuration, am I gonna need a piece of software in order to be able to see the camera's feed in real time? I don't really have any interest in recording straight to the computer, I just need a video monitor rig.

Any help would be hot!

reversed lens?

Just reverse it for the moment, and then pick up some tubes later on in the piece. I think I remember reading that all reversing does is give frame-to-frame sharpness & that tubes actually do all the magnification work. Is this true?

If it helps, I have a 49mm glass filter on it at the moment. If I can't find the correct size for the lens, can I just get one that will fit the filter?

Totally hi-jacking this thread btw, but if I wanna get a reverse mount ring for a 50mm lens I want to be getting 49mm reverse ring right? I'm seeing a lot of listings that have two mm numbers, these are for joining two different lenses right?

Am looking for the K Mount equivalent of these results...

First of all, I want to apologize for the woeful noob-ness that this post is gunna be. I'm not very active here at all, but have recently come into a bit of money & thought it was time I added a nice lens to my collection. Last summer I got a KX w/ the Pentax 18-55 kit lens which is woefully inadequate for me.

These shots were taken by one of the best photographers I ever knew, he doesn't shoot on Pentax, but he became my greatest idol. Unfortunately he passed away last December, so I am unable to ask him what he shot with in detail, but I was wondering, what are the Bayonet mount equivalents that glean these amazing results? All the portraiture lenses I have browsed tend to have flawless, flat bokeh and I personally don't like it. I like my bokeh to have character & shape, vastly thanks to Onihide's influence.

From what I could glean the Pentax M 85mm f/2, Pentax DA* 55mm f/1.4 & the Pentax DA* 55mm f/1.4 came in pretty good too.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I want a lens capable of full-length body shots with shallow DOF. I can't remember, but is it primes or zooms that give this effect? I have a 50mm prime that only has creamy, formed bokeh up close to the camera & opened up wide. Anything beyond a head & shoulders shot and the DOF begins widening. That's not the kinda style I'm in to. I'm particularly interested in the way he gets shallow DOF in his long shots. Zoom?

Can anybody point me in the right direction? There's so many numbers and measurements and resources that I can't imagine where to look first!

You can bet on it! That little tank ain't goin' nowhere.

I ended up going with that KX. I went into town and actually had a look at my savings, and it turns out I had a couple more hundred than what I'd thought, so I took the plunge and plopped it on that KX. Honestly, trust me, I'm usually not so reckless. ^^;

At least this way I'll be able to keep a float for a little longer before really becoming obsolete. I'm still surprised it was so cheap for only a two year old model. Except it is coming with the 18-55mm and not that other one, 50mm-something, I can't remember. I'm a beginner really, I have a hard time remembering lens numbers unless I actively memorize, is the 18-55mm in the review database? I had a look and I found about 5 different types, lol.

I collect and wear kimono. It's very expensive, hence I'm usually always torn between photography equip and shelling out for another piece of pre-WWII Japanese clothing. :p

I have a sweet spot for 1st generation Chevrolet Camaro's too. Preferably in fire engine red or canary yellow.

I used to ride horses casually in high school, but I hate the uppity attitude with people in that industry.

This has caught my eye...

I shoot with an old KX SLR, don't have the set up at home for a dark room, (no window-less rooms,) nor the financial support for all those chemicals. So my reels go to the drugstore for developing and then I do my own processing in PS.

This is the kinda stuff I'm getting on film now. (Been shooting for about 2 and a half years now.)

I'm looking to get a DSLR, simply for the convenience of not relying on an outside facility to develop. At the end of the day it's cheaper too, with film going for $7 a reel at the least, aside from buying it in bulk online. I feel I'll have more freedom to experiment too. It's quicker, I don't have to worry about running outta reels or missing opportunities while re-loading. Plus I can shoot, edit and post within a shorter period.

I'm looking to get something second hand on ebay for a couple of hundred dollars, so my question is, what are some of the good ones? Pentax DSLR's that I'm still going to get a good use out off, regardless of many of them being outdated against the new K-5 and such?

I'm only after the body as I'm set for lenses. (At least... for now.)

I'm more interested in the sensor than the megapixel of course. I just want something to get my feet wet.

Any recommendations or tips would be awesome!

Hey, when I came by my Pentax KX, it came with a Hanimex 50mm 1:2 lens. I had a look in the lens reviews, and unfortunately it isn't there so I was wondering whether anyone had had any experience with this lens, or one like it. I'm a complete beginner at this sort of stuff, lol, it's my first SLR and first lens, so I don't have much to go on.

It performs well for me, my other lens is a SMC Pentax-A Zoom 1:4 70-210mm, (which has a 'macro' feature :/) which I bought, but I prefer the performance of the 50mm, despite no zoom or macro. Great for portrature from what I've found.

The Dark Knight had a good soundtrack. Hans Zimmer often writes his best stuff WITH someone else on board. Leave him by himself and it'll all sound the same.

The Transformers movies jump out at me in the sound direction department. And LOTR for a fantastic 'in-universe' score.

An American tourist points her camera at a local Aboriginal in Australia. The Aboriginal gives the woman a strange look.

"You can't take a photo of me," he says.

"Oh..." she says, downfallen, "You're culture says that it'll take away your sole, right?"

The Aboriginal grins and laughs, "Nah mate, you can't take a photo cuz you've still got you're lens cap on!"

Hope no one posted that one before hand, lol.

Asahi Pentax KX, any Veterans?

Oh, yeah, I've already used a couple of 36 exposure reels in the last week, and the annual show is coming up soon so I've already stocked up with some more film!

Right now I've got a 50mm on it which is great for general use, but I know this camera has much more to offer.

There's a SMC Pentax-A 70-210mm F4 on ebay right now and its up for a good while but looks a little over priced compared to the reviews on the review page, and that's probably in American dollars, and I'm not sure weather I have the cash handy (bugga bugga economic crisis) How often would one of these come along? On ebay or here? SMC PENTAX-A 70-210mm F4 MACRO ZOOM K10D/K20D/K200D @ - eBay, 35mm SLR, Film Cameras, Cameras Photo. (end time 26-Apr-09 10:41:08 AEST)

Thanks so much for all your help guys! I'll be sure to post some pictures I take when they come back from the developers.

It used to be my dads, but he's given me permission to use it.

I like this old girl, can anyone give me some pointers on this particular Pentax?

I'm into the nature photography, macro, animal photography, a pretty wide range I guess. So I was wondering weather anyone knows which lenses and such I should go a-hunting for? First off I'd like a macro and then a zoom maybe, but if anyone has some pointers, I'd love to here from you!

Cazz.

Hey, I'm from NSW, Australia! I've only just finished high school but recently I've started using my dads old Pentax KX SLR, and I thought I should start mixing with people that use this kinda camera.

I've heard the old KX & K1000 are good, reliable cameras, but so far I've only got a 50mm lens, but have started shopping round for a zoom and a macro to get me started.

So I guess I'll see you all around the boards, and I hope to make some good friends!
