Been running the K50 firmware on my K30 now for over a month, no issues, all functions are good, battery life not effected, No noticeable changes in behavior. Put about 500 shots on it, an airshow and some people shots, all is good

WW2 warbirds from Saturdays airshow. One thing that worked out was to set at the downwind end of the field as I could get shots of the aircraft turning into the runway for the fly by, Shot with my K30 and DAL 55-300

That's great to hear,

This firmware will allow me and my K30 to upgrade to the 55-300 PLM without getting a new K70 body, I wouldn't have gone for the K50, thanks for doing a great service to us K30 owners

Just updated to the 1.10 fw on my K30 and all seems to work great, I don't have a PLM lens but it works with my DA 33-300 and DA 18-135 just great, no problems with my FA lenses or DA primes, glad I stumbled across this tread, I will leave it loaded to see if I can see any AF improvements

Anyone using a Hoodman type device with a Q?

I use this one from Amazon for about $8.00 but I had to open the tripod screw hole into a small slot in the mounting frame, about a 5min job, easy. this allows the hood to center to the Q7 lcd screen. Works great. Many people here have used this hood, search for LCD-V5

Q adapters

The rolling shutter when using long 135mm or longer lenses does add softness in images due to camera movement during the long sensor read times. The SR can't help with this only the Pentax adapter can solve the softness problem. I have found quite a visual increase in sharpness when using the Pentax adapter with shutter

Amazon lists this "Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter, Contax RF S Lens (aka Nikon RF Rangefinder S-series, Kiev 4) to Pentax Q-Series Camera, fits Pentax Q Mirrorless Cameras"

Makes me think the adapter would work for you. and for $23 I would try it. Old lenses to have a CA problem on the Q and a contrast problem but that cam all be addressed in LR. Have fun with your father's old photo stuff. I still use some of my fathers photo stuff.

Signs of New Pentax Q Soon?

I will not sell my Q7's or my Pentax adapter because of the reach when using old long lenses. I did get a Panny GM5 with 2 small retractable zooms for travel because of the larger sensor and EVF. Check out the size both GM5 left and Q7 Right with a 70-200 equiv zoom.

20161129-IMG_7237 by Hans Nikesch, on Flickr

I still have a Q and 2 Q7's but they are getting less use. For me Pentax should move the Q line to M4/3's as the small Panny cameras are discontinued and they can maintain the same size and form factor. After using the GM5 I find the EVF a must for my next camera. The down side of the GM5 is the shutter is electronic only when adapting lenses and the crop factor is 2 vs. 4.7 for the Q7.

To Invest in Q System?

I believe in the right tool for the job thinking

I use a Pentax K30 for sports and wildlife I have a 18-135, and 55-300 and some primes

For travel I used my Canon S100 and a Pentax Q7 W/ 06 lens

For walking around I like the S100

Just recently I got a Panasonic GM5 for better IQ when traveling and to confuse things so now I still like the S100 and K30 but the Q7 collects dust because I also have 3 lenses for the GM5 a 12-32, 25-100 & 45-200

I still always carry the S100 in a belt case and when traveling add the GM5 with the 2 short zooms

The down side of the GM5 is it uses a kind of electronic rolling shutter and is subject to some distortion on moving subjects when panning or subject movement, if I had known that I would have gone Olympus. This reduces the GM5's abilities for wildlife with the 45-200 and forces it to scapes and still subjects

I know how you feel, I always carry my Canon S100 (almost the same as the MX-1) I would have gotten the MX-1 if the Canon hadn't come out earlier. I feel it's an issue of using the right tool for the subject. Most of my wildlife and sports are shot with my K30, my travel and everyday shooting is my S100 and my Q7 with the 06 attached. I find it easier to change cameras than lenses. The IQ of the Q7 and S100 is identical so having the 06 gives me more reach than the S100 so I carry both.

The lens is soft wide open but sharpens up at f8 sharpest at f16 not as good as the DAL 55-300 but it's less than 1/2 the price. Hard to hand hold @400 and it does not have a tripod ring. It balances good mounted to my K30 with the K30 on the tripod

Auto focus speed is not bad it uses the camera motor

The fact that is losses time settings means that the battery discharges while in the camera and lets the capacitor also discharge, that means bad batteries, Do not let the camera sit without a fully charged battery in it. When the camera does not start it could be that the battery and capacitor are dead. Try putting a charged battery in the camera and let it sit for an hour to let the capacitor charge before trying to start the camera. If that works get a new battery.

From K to Q ?

I am also looking for small, I mostly carry my Canon S100 on my belt and my Q7 with the 06 mounted on a strap for the reach, makes a nice kit. The Q7 with a retractable 02 would be great. I find the IQ between my 02 and 01 is vary close so I would chose the 02 if it wasn't so large. Like someone posted above I would love a longer native Q zoom something like a 28-300

I have 2 Q7's and a black Q, the Q mostly collects dust as dose one of my slightly damages Q7's. I find the IQ between the Q7 and my Canon S100 almost identical and the S100 is easier to carry. Now the Q7 is only used to adapt long tele's and I am looking at a Lumix DMC GM5 because of the larger sensor and the finder.
