a few recent RE photos i took. the first three were of a loft space, which includes a patio shot after dark, a twilight patio shot, and living space. fourth image was a detail living room shot. all images were taken using 12-24mm/f4 and one Yongnuo 560IV flash w/ Phottix transmitter slave. first three images are a composite of multiple flash and ambient layers, and the fourth image is all ambient, no flash needed. all were edited in ACR (for CA), CS5 and Nik.

Dining Room by Craig Keene, on Flickr

Embarking on a new career in interior/architecture/real estate photography. I had no idea how the 'pros' produced such fantastic final images. Now I know. Been practicing my lighting using flash; specifically 'one light technique'. This image was shot through the 12-24mm and created using series of ambient images mixed with a series of flash images, which I used as a light source a single Yongnuo 560IV. The room was extremely warm so I bumped the WB to 5600K. Editing entailed CA fixing in ACR. Loaded and stacked multiple files into CS5, and working off of one base layer I created layer masks and brushed in flash and ambient light where needed. Finished up in Nik. The goal, obviously, is to give the impression of one light source and not to have final product look too flash heavy. It's challenging work, but I'm really enjoying it thus far. P.S. this was done for a client who was about to do a reno and wanted before images. Total images used: 8. So much to learn.

I notice a tennis ball next to one of your pups. Let me guess. If you throw a raw steak and that ball at the same time, they ignore the steak and bring the ball back every time. I have a 7y/o golden lab/shepherd mix that will run herself to death and refuse food of any kind once that ball comes out. Nice images. I particularly like the ice and leaves shot.

hey, thank you! i spent maybe 15 minutes editing. obviously, w/o a tilt shift, i needed to use the transform tool to get proper perspective. then i hit the curves and hue/saturation for tonal range/color adjustment, followed by a few adjustments in NIK to make it pop. geez, i can remember how much time i used to spend in a darkroom, which i loved! the trade off for todays editing tools moves from having headaches due to inhaling hours worth of developer, stop bath and fixer to dealing with carpal tunnel and screen blindness.

p.s. i was real close to buying that 14mm prime but it's not suitable for my current needs. you seem to be making great use of it, especially when it comes to capturing 'fat slobs'! thanks again.

This image was taken at a small town fireworks display just outside of Kansas City, MO. It was one of many long exposures I took that evening but only this one turned out with red skies.

now that all my Echinacea has gone to seed i've got a whole town full of Finches. if only i had a DA*200 ƒ2.8 with stacked TCs for 476mm i'd be set. i'm sure if i did i wouldn't probably see a single Finch. and if i did, i highly doubt my images would look nearly as good as yours. HOLY CRAP! i feel like i can reach into your shots and touch those beauties. nice work, sir!

hey, thanks for the feedback. the 12-24 is one week new to me. i'm currently kicking the tires on it to see if it'll get the job done in the real estate photography arena; a possible career change for me. i read numerous reports of severe CA concerning this lens. it does exist slightly but nothing that can't be cleaned up in a matter of seconds. i've been intentionally shooting in high contrast situations to see how she handles. no complaints thus far.

the fennel plant getting lots of love. i counted five Black Swallowtail on the one plant. many parasitic wasps were also present. if you've never seen a parasitic wasp come out of a chrysalis, especially when a beautiful butterfly is expected, it's kinda creepy. i experienced that last year along with my wife and 5y/o daughter. "dad, that's one ugly looking butterfly," she said. 18-135mm. f8. no flash. handheld. CS5 post.

just getting around to editing these. i was in the AZ last week in July. a relative-n-law is a superintendent on an OdySea theme park job site. i got a behind a scenes tour one afternoon. it's a pretty massive project. he's used to building hospitals so this was a nice change of pace for him. apparently, the dolphin exhibit there is catching quite a bit of hubbub (deservingly so, IMO). structure being built on a native american community. all handheld. no flash. 18-135mm. post: CS5 & NIK.

As many wonderful bird shots I've seen from you I would've figured you'd have dozens of these sequences. Thanks for the comment. P. S. How's that hip? My wife is a PT. Are you hip deep in the "P"ain and "T"orture? Strengthen. Strengthen. Strengthen.

I discovered this majestic hawk in our backyard perched on a neighbor's wooden fence. I photographed him from about 25' for quite some time and kept thinking to myself, why is he sitting here for so long? Those thoughts were soon answered after being signaled by my dog of fresh kill in the grass only several feet away from where he was perched. The first two shots were handheld and the last one was taken on a tripod during interval shooting. He turned his back to the camera for most of the 300 or so shots taken on the tripod. All three were cropped and edited. The second one was done so to give a luminous feeling. 18-135mm

Thanks very much. I had just received in the mail that day the Pentax 100mm/2.8. The image is of my daughter and it was one of the first shots I took with the new lens. Obviously, I did a little post using a few Nik filters. Thanks again.
