Mine arrived today, so far have played around with the 50 m lens and have found it very responsive. I think I will enjoy this little beast very much.

Not overly impressed with Ted's. ordered my camera on Saturday, still have no email confirming dispatch and tracking details. Phoned today and they advised that it had shipped yesterday afternoon. On a more positive note, am hanging for it to arrive :)

K-7 Auto White Balance

I have to agree that the AWB does a very good job, this image was taken under fluorescent lighting, very low lighting levels at 1600 ISO, Only PP was to crop a little (to remove some confidential material from the shot) and to resize for web. NR was set to medium.

Yes, it is very very useful in obtaining good focus in low light conditions, I would have upgraded for this alone.

MM black and white cats can be difficult to photograph, this is the first decent shot I have of Winky, taken with the K7 and 18 - 55 WR kit lens, AWB and auto focus.

How is the 50 to 200 WR lens. After playing with the 18 - 55 WR I am very tempted to go for the longer sibling.

Having upgraded from the K20 to the K-7, the two cameras are worlds apart in performance. I was asked to shoot some images at a work meeting yesterday, lighting was extremely poor, fluorescent lighting, blinds closed as power point presentation was being shown. Unable to use flash as it would be far too disruptive. My K20 would not have coped in that situation at all, the K-7 handled it very well. Auto focus was good in that light, AWB was also accurate. Many of the images were shot at ISO 1600 with medium noise reduction and were very clean compared to what I would have got from that K20. Unfortunately, I cannot display the images as there are privacy issues.

However here is an image I took of my grand daughter which was taken with ISO 3200 and no noise reduction.

Something that DSLRs are lacking in this day & age

When I am out for an entire day, I will usually have 4 or 5, 4 gig cards, can't imagine circumstances where I would need anything more. May become an issue if away for days at a time with no access to lap top or power supply. I can't imagine myself in such circumstances th far to fond of creature comforts.

How long to charge battery?

However long it takes, it is far far too long when you un-box the new and long awaited toy and just want to go out and play.

Enjoy the new camera, I am certainly enjoying mine, it is being put through it's paces tomorrow (as am I) shooting the visit from our departmental secretary and other dignitaries at a work function, talk about a pressure test. Camera 5 days in my hands, high expectations and very poor lighting. Ohhhh I am hoping that the off camera flash works reliably or I may be in strife.

I certainly hope so, it is a nuisance the way it is currently set. The frequency I change focus points outweighs the frequency I wish to access functions.

I will be giving mine a thorough workout tomorrow photographing a work function.

That's a pretty good description of how it fits in the hand and I am sure you have a different sized hand to me :) .

The camera simply feels right when you hold it.

Stability is absolutely fine, I carry my camera on an R-strap ( BlackRapid: RS-4 Strap ) which allows it to sit neatly at the hip but pulls up very quickly into position to shoot.

I have smallish hands and also suffer arthritis which means that anything with too much weight becomes painful quickly, however I am able to hold the K-7 very easily.

I have generally shot with pentax SLR and DSLR, however diverted to the Sony alpha-100 in 2006 following an episode where I got to play with a Canon with image stabilized lens. At that time Pentax were talking about in body stabilization but it was still unclear when they would release such a beast. I loved the in body stabilization of the Sony.

I returned to Pentax a year later as a result of killing the Sony on a glacier in New Zealand (I took a fairly bad fall in which I was largely unhurt other than pride, however the Sony died). Pentax had by that time released the K10 and I succumbed to pressure form my hubby to return to Pentax but always felt that the stabilization was not quite as good. Well the point of this ramble is, NOW the stabilization is as effective as I could wish it to be. I am more than happy with how this camera performs.

As for the model in the last shot, well he was happily absorbed in playing his nintendo DS and was oblivious to the photo being taken.

Thanks Rob, yep I totally agree, Winky is a very cute cat even cuter when she is attacking the dog :).

The AF is very fast compared to the K20 (which with the recent firmware upgrade was reasonable), Auto focus in low light bears no resemblance to the K20 it is so much better. Exposure metering on the K-7 also seemed to be improved.

I wasn't expecting a great deal out of the kit lens but it seems to be very sharp and the colours from it so far have been very good. The image of the cat was with this lens.

And yes, the shutter is very quiet and smooth.

I had hardly arrived home with the K-7 and hubby was inside to collect the old K20, only to later grumble to me that he hardly touched the shutter and the camera had focused. So I can only imagine how much faster the K-7 must feel to you.

Enjoy the camera and I look forward to seeing what you get out of it.

K-7 not in Europe?

Incorrect information, DCW in Melbourne had pre-orders for 50 and received enough stock to fill all orders. There is an image available on another site showing Van Bar employees behind a stack of K-7 boxes of whcih I estimate about 40 units. So that is simply two Melbourne stores so I would expect Australia received a good deal more than 70 units.

I hope all who are still waiting get their cameras soon, it is an awesome camera.

I picked up the K - 7 this morning and after waiting quite impatiently for the battery to charge (in fact I whipped it off the charger well before charging finished) took it out for a test run.

The camera feels very good in the hand, although the new placement for the buttons takes a bit of getting used to. Also found the 4 way controller a bit strange to use to select focus points as you now need to press the OK button first. Once I got used to that the camera just felt very instinctive to use.

Changing ISO is very quick with the button rather than going through the function button on the K10 and 20.

Auto focus seems to be much quicker with the two lenses I have used, the 18 - 55 WR kit lens and the 50 - 135.

So far very happy with the new beast.

These three were taken with the DA* 50 - 135

18 - 55 WR kit lens

I've been dropping subtle hints to dear hubby over the last couple of weeks that the time may have come to upgrade. After today's release told him that it is a must as I have developed a severe case of G.A.S (AKA gear acquisition syndrome) for which the only known cure is purchasing the K-7 when it is available.

K10d-debug menu-IR possible?

If you want to make the K10 your IR body, you will need to have someone, remove the IR blocking filter from the sensor. There is a company that does this for Nikon LifePixel Digital Infrared Photography IR Conversion, Modification & Scratched Sensor Repair, but not aware of anyone who modifies Pentax unfortunately. I have a *ISTD as well as a Ds and a K10D any of which could be modified. I have been tempted to experiment with the ISTD just not quite game.

Poll: Sigma 70-200 F2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM
Posted By jena

I voted no, as I have given up on this lens being available for the Pentax ssytem and have now purchased the DA* 50 - 135 2.8, yes the reach on the 70 - 200 is better but this is not essential for me.

I owned 70 - 200 2.8 for my Sony Alpha system and really missed this lens when I moved back to Pentax earlier this year. Had Sigma made this lens available for Pentax, I would have imedialty purchased.
