A few years back, Ricoh stated (in an PF-interview?) that they want to be number one regarding autofocus. Is Ricoh still aiming for that goal? How are you going to achieve it?

I haven't used my MZ-S in years, but I never had any problems with it. It still is one of my all time favourite cameras. Just a joy to use.

The attachment system used on the MZ-S comes to mind...
at least, that's what I hope for.

You clearly didn't get my point, but felt the need to get offensive instead.
But you know what: I don't care. I'm here for fun and not to argue all day long. And we all be smarter regarding the AF of the K-1 in just a few days anyway.

Could be. But why are there only 3 extra points for each of the extra columns? Does that mean, the extra points will have a sensitivity of 2.8? Because otherwise there surely could have been 5+5 = 10 extra points?

I never understood why they abandoned that lever system. It's such a joy to use on the MZ-S.

Patent to new q lens

I would like a updated, more "professional" Q, with the newest sensor, better AF, an (optional) EVF and an underwater housing (like Olympus is providing for their mirrorless cameras). It probably would need a bigger, more powerful battery, which would affect the overall size, but I wouldn't mind that. The Q would be a nice little diving camera.

I tried my best to eliminate user error. On all my sharpness test shots I used CDAF to ensure right focus. I even focused manually on some additional ones, using the LV magnification funktion.
Maybe my copy of the lens is below average.
Just as your copy of the Sigma 100-300mm must have been, because mine is quite good wide oben.

Thanks for your reply! I will have to look into that. Maybe I need to retest with some sort of beanbag/ricebag instead of a tripod.
But the thing is, that at least my copy of the 150-450 lacks a bit of sharpness at F/5.6. I can see it not only in my test shots, but in the "everyday shots" too. As soon as I switch to F/6.3, the pictures get sharper. I even tried it with very short exosure times (1/1600-1/3200). That's why I don't think it's (only) motion blur. Looking through the pictures other people have taken with this lens wide open, I wonder if my copy is not as good as it could be.

I did a comparison today with my Sigma 100-300mm and the Pentax 150-450mm. Both at about 300mm and both wide open (Sigma F/4, Pentax F/5.6). The Sigma is considerably sharper wide open. That got me thinking. Both are 3x zooms, so I would expect the Pentax to be similar to the Sigma regarding sharpness wide open. For twice the price...
Just for fun I also tested the HD 55-300mm. It is way worse than the other two.

I've postet some samples in the dedicated picture thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/294721-post-your-hd-pentax...ml#post3245645

And here I have some comparison shots (F/5.6 and F/8) at 450mm. Camera was on a sturdy tripod. I used a remote control and 3 sec MU. No additional sharpening applied.
First the whole picture an then some 100% crops:

The distance to the tower was about 2,5 km.
As you can see, the lens is sharp, but slightly "hazy" (for the lack of a better word) at F/5.6.

A few shots from Tuesday. The light was not very good because it was an overcast day. I had to use fairly high ISO most of the time. All shots are handheld. Most of them are cropped to some extent.

150mm, F/8, 1/400s, ISO100 (the amount of detail in the forest below the tower is amazing in the original file)

450mm, F/8, 1/1000s, ISO500

450mm, F/6.3, 1/800s, ISO 2000

150mm, F/6.3, 1/250, ISO 400

This one is with the 1.4x TC (handheld)
630mm, F/10, 1/1000s, ISO 640

450mm, F/6.3, 1/1000s, ISO 800

290mm, F/6.3, 1/800s, ISO 800

380mm, F/6.3, 1/800s, ISO 5000

450mm, F/6.3, 1/800s, ISO 5000

450mm, F/6.3, 1/400s, ISO 2000

I thought about that too. so I put it on a tripod, used CDAF/LV, remote control with 3 sec MU and base ISO. But still...

I think, that may be be the case. Maybe I was expecting too much from the early reviews/pictures and the MTF charts.

Will post pictures, as soon as I have some time.

Got my 150-450 yesterday. It is sharp at 450mm from f6.3 onward. I expected it to be a little bit sharper at f5.6, but I guess it's usable. Like every new lens, it comes with a learning curve. But one thing is already very clear: The AF of my K50 is not the ideal partner for the lens. Don't get me wrong: it works, but I just feel that it will be a whole other level with the AF of the K3/K3II. So I ordered a K3... never ending story...
I will post some pictures later.

So the question (for me at least) is: will the old K3 get the new improved AF-C of the K3II via firmware update?

Same here: If you open the PDF-file in the browser, the "D FA standard zoom" looks like a 24-120mm and the line for the "D FA large diameter standard zoom" extends to 22mm! But when you download the PDF and open it with the Adobe reader, everything looks like always (28-105 and 24-70).

Sigma 100-300 autofocus problem
Posted By wisent

There are two batches of the 100-300 Sigma. At least some lenses of the older batch are known to have a "focus jump" at f6.3. It means that the lens will show severe backfocus from f4-f5.6. From f6.3 onwards the lens will focus correctly. They fixed that issue in the newer batch of lenses. You can distinguish the two batches by the look of the rubber on the focus- and zoomrings.

The longer, the better. the much rumored 150-450mm range would be pretty neat. But it should work with the TC. I'm really looking forward to that lens.
