I didn't see them mention it being full frame or cropped or if I can use it on my film camera bodies.

I do not recommend Spencer's, from past experience. ---------- Post added 09-11-19 at 07:24 AM ---------- Maxmax was kind enough to respond, Sorry, but I don't work on Pentax cameras anymore. The last number I have opened had numerous hardwired connections to the main PCB that made it difficult to get to the sensor without a lot of extra work. |

Cameras are colorblind and only produce shades of grey. They put a colored filter on each of the pixels to break them up into squares of R, G, and B and put those values back together at the expense of resolution. Removing the colored filters makes the camera colorblind again - but, you get a lot more resolution and an extra EV stop in the process.

I checked with maxmax and they offer monochrome conversions but don't work on Pentax cameras. Kolari Vision works on Pentax cameras but they do not offer a monochrome option. I wish these two would get together. Is anyone working on Pentax cameras and offering monochrome conversions?

Pentax has already said they're not going mirrorless, which is not surprising since it was they who introduced the SLR to Japan back in the day. "Mirrorless" is a campaign by Canon to recoup sales lost to cell phone shooters while Pentax is more concerned about image quality than the slight reduction in weight at the expense of loosing the viewfinder and battery life for something which does not take as good of photographs than an SLR.

I quit buying lensbaby after they passed the $100 mark. Now they're selling for hundreds of dollars to produce an effect I can do in Photoshop. Creating the Lensbaby Effect - Photo.net - Articles
Do you know what I can't create in Photoshop? A sharp clean image from a cheap lens. I'd rather spend my money on Pentax LTD autofocus automatic lenses than gimmicks and lomography. If I want to get creative I just buy some cheap skylight filters, Vaseline, clear nail polish, stockings, etc.

I own 4 or 5 PZ-1p's (lost count for the moment). Usually third-party lens warnings surround fisheye lenses with the aperture arm banging into the mirror.
You may have read about the dreaded "Ricoh Pin" in which some older Ricoh lenses will jam on quite nicely to a Pentax AF body. Ricoh pin - what is it and why the need to remove? - PentaxForums.com |

I'm getting a kick out of Canon's steadily declining sales of their digital SLR's since consumers are just using the camera in their phones. So, the big market push is now "mirrorless" cameras to try to get consumers back.. you know, because mirrorless cameras are "better" than DSLR's.

qft. I picked up several MZ-S's and PZ-1p's in near-mint condition for 20% of their original price while bracing for the analog camera apocalypse. I've seen a steady decline in the availability of used film cameras in pristine condition. Now I'm seeing more heavily used cameras being sold for scrap and dwindling avenues for repair (Eric)
i.e. it would be difficult to market a new film SLR for $500 while you can buy a decent used film camera for $20. But, this is just a phase. In less than ten years I expect that only toy cameras will be available for sale. I don't like toy cameras, unless they have a mount for my SLR lenses.
The mantra that "Pentax was late to the DSLR market" is just rubbish. I didn't see that sentiment when Samsung Galaxy followed the iPhone.
I also don't agree that low market demand requires the extinction of a technology. How much demand was there for film photography before the Kodak Instamatic? Sometimes a company needs to create the demand for a product which you didn't you know you needed.
And, (rant continues) I don't agree that old technology is obsolete technology e.g. film. The "Wheel" is roughly 5,520 years old and nobody is complaining that it's obsolete.

I've gone thru several flatbed scanners (SCSI, Firewire, USB) and a negative scanner. I'm satisfied with an analog front end (film) and a digital back end to print (jpeg's). My work flow runs thru North Coast Photo, which is on the West Coast of the U.S. I'm still confused as to why they call themselves North Coast Photo, but - I digress. They do developing with "enhanced" scans of 3390 x 5035 from 35mm B&W and color. @150dpi that gets you 22x33" enlargements. They also return the negatives to you so you re-scan at a higher resolution from the negs in the future if you need larger.

ref: K-1 Mark II headphone microphone weirdness - PentaxForums.com
K-1 / II users are experiencing no audio in the headphone jack while recording video. I have been unable to hear audio during playback if an external mic was connected at the same time as the headphones. Exiting video mode and returning may briefly restore the functionality. I've written to Ricoh customer service who was able to reproduce the issue, INC0003433264. Seems like a firmware update might resolve the issues.

This may muddy the waters a bit, but...
I know it's not a video camera but I find this inconvenient. The good news is it's "normal" i.e. not "broken." If it works once then it seems it could be corrected with a firmware update.

Awesome. Thanks for that, Adam. Sounds like it's a firmware issue.

I'm still not convinced that it doesn't say you can [first] record and [second] play back movies using the headphones - but, ok. What prompted me to ask if anyone else has experience with this is there is no sound in the headphones during recording and no sound during playback if the microphone is plugged in. I'm not sure if Precision messed up my camera during the Mark II upgrade or if this can be fixed with a firmware update or if I wanted to spend money to have it repaired if I am the only person with this issue.
Thanks for reply.

Indeed it does - how to set the microphone level and how to set the headphone level. And, that does not answer my question, which is, Can I monitor the audio with my headphones while I'm recording and/or with an external microphone? Or, do I need to make a recording first, then unplug the microphone, plug back in the headphones, and listen to what I just recorded?

I've upgraded my K-1 to Mark II. The external microphone jack has worked fine with a wide variety of mics. When I plugged in my headphones I could not monitor the audio from the external mic, even while recording video. In fact, the headphones were dead. I tried several headphones and couldn't hear anything.
Later, I found another pair of headphones which worked fine for playback... but, I'm starting to think it was because the external microphone was not plugged in.
Before I drive myself insane, does anyone know if it is possible to monitor audio during video recording? Or, to listen to any audio in the headphone jack with an external microphone connected to the mic jack?

Unless you write-protect the card, both Windows and OSX may attempt to write hidden files to the root of the card. These files are for folder display options and thumbnail indexing. These files tend to confuse the camera. If you cannot write-protect the card, there is a program I use on the mac which keeps those pesky files from being written called BlueHarvest. Also what can confuse the camera is formatting while connected to a PC. There are volume names and special directories which the camera looks for. There are also different types of file formats and partition schemes. Windows also has an "issue" with external drives and may mark a partition as "non-removable". The rule of thumb is to always use the format command from the camera's menu and never write to that card with another camera or PC. If you move the card to another camera, re-format the card inside the camera which will use it. Cards are cheap. Buy spares and if any card gives you an error, chuck it.

What originally prompted my question was, there's a review of the MZ-S elsewhere on this forum where the photographer reported seeing an error of 6 stops over on the MZ-S using M42 lenses and concluded the MZ-S cannot properly meter with the adapter. I am very happy with the PZ-1 which just seemed to know that I wanted to shoot aperture priority... but, I prefer the smaller MZ-S body.
