Not really, but she's solid, not quite a fat cat. The other cat, Fester, is taller and longer, but may weigh a little less, or about the same.

No

No, but close in some ways, it's called a "cut" in old fashioned printing, more often called a die today. Several years ago as a hobby I owned a Kelsey platen press, and hand set and fed printing press. You set the type and everything by hand, if you needed a graphic, you would have your drawing or photo and send it off to be made. They would make it from metal and mount it to a wooden block, the same height as type. This particular one was for a friend's "business card". I didn't realize I still had it since I sold the press years ago. You could make beautiful printing on the press, but it was very labor intensive. I actually sold some specially printed products but was getting so much business it was no longer fun.

My silly shot of a cable coming out of the back of the computer that I took for this thread was explored. That's very puzzling, almost disturbing.

Here's another, see if you can guess what it is part of:

The prices of those cameras will put in the ballpark for professional video cameras, and even some of the higher end consumers put out good video. If you're happy with the K-1 for stills, why buy another still camera that does video.

New York is so densely populated and people there were slow to keep social distancing, having big events just a few days ago (so we were told by the news), and in New Orleans if there was anyone infected at the Mardi Gras they have possibly passed it to thousands. It's interesting that some states are taking it much more seriously than others. Our Governor in Ohio seems to be way ahead in this regard. The "this is no worse than the flu" crowd were really bashing him a few weeks ago. Some of that same crowd is upset because they work for essential businesses and have to work instead of sitting home collecting unemployment. I was shocked when I read those comments on the governor's twitter feed.

Limiteds - DA 21 or DA 70 as my next lens? As a treat to myself...

I have the 15, but not the 21, I have a 20-40 zoom. I would totally agree that the 15 is a specialty lens, and it is special. The 21 area or the 20-40 is very useful, I use it a lot.

These posts had some interesting ideas, which I think brings some great insight. I have read many times over the years that 21 is the perfect street length. Pak has enough experience that he knows his favorite for his own style, but also wants to try something new. I think that is the case with a lot of us, we may be pretty content with what we have, but wonder what this other lens can do for us. Right now I'm pretty happy with the gear I have, but still would like more. And as you have said you had the 21 before, but maybe it was not the right time. Several years ago I bought the macro 100 WR, it was a fantastic lens, but I never used it enough and therefore sold it. A few years later I ended up with an old manual focus Sigma 50 macro and used it a lot more. I still have the Sigma, but ended up with a Tamron 90 macro I could not pass up. Anyway, I'm more ready for the macro now than I was back then. Maybe that's a similar thing with you and the 21.

I lusted after a 21 for a long time, and the a trip to London in October came up, looking at London weather , I decided to instead get the 20-40 Ltd since it is weather sealed. I don't lust after the 21 anymore, I love the 20-40. I still may get a 21 sometime when the right deal comes up at the right time. Anyway, I guess a first question is always, what do you want to do with the lens? To me the 70 looks like a great lens, but I don't really know what I would do with it, so maybe you have some ideas. Only you know that. I have bought a few lens that I didn't know what I would use them for, and generally don't use them often.

The great thing is that are choices, each lens is a tool, you don't have to use the tool for the same thing as others do, and there is not a subject out there that there is only one way to shoot it. Think of some of the famous photo spots that everyone shoots, 90% of people take the same shot, I would call it a record shot, part of the other 10% usually are the ones that are interesting.

Now that I've bored you and offered up no help whatsover, good luck with your choice.

Note: I've also been involved in a Coronavirus busted deal. The seller doesn't want to leave his house to ship. (I understand too, but I know I can buy the postage online, the Postal Carrier will pick it up on the porch, a postal scale was a great investment)

When not to take a photo

Way back in the mid 70’s I was a journalism major in college, as most college student do, I changed my major. But some of my most memorable classes were in the School of Journalism, particularly photo journalism. I had a professor that had been an Army photographer in Vietnam and during the last week of the class he had a slide show of his work during the Vietnam War. His work was incredible and very moving. Photos showing a range of emotion. But a big difference was that he did not know the people he had in the frame. Also he hardened by war. A common thing with street shooters starting out is fear and nerves, the best ones get over that. Probably the same with a photojournalist, but anotger difference your experience and that of a photojournalist is it is their job. I know when I have been the official photographer it is easier to get right in someone’s face and they understand, many actually love it. In fact, if you have ever taken pictures of a politician or a General where you are the only photographer they will usually strike poses without your asking. Anyway, most people understand when it is your job, not all, but most.

I feel for your country, every country is going through this, but just after the wild fires is like a punch in the gut. But you are tough and will get through this too. That was a tough decision, but probably right.

I have a chain saw on a ten foot pole, that should keep people at a distance. But it's too much work so I'll just stay in. The chain saw is not as beautiful as maple either.

A not too close macro shot withe the Tamron 90. You can see there is a nut on top, but what is the entire object, it's a tool, some of what you see may not be a part of it.

Very nice, your second photo reminds me of s thing called Spin Art that they used to have at the fair when I was a kid. You'd get a "canvas" (mat board actually) that they attached to a spinning base, and you would drop different colors of paint onto it while it spun, of course most of the finished"art" looked the same, it was pretty cool to 10 year olds. Not quite as advanced as your wife's, but a basic part of it.
