Polarizer for DA12-24

I use a UV filter, not a polarizer - no problems with it.

Polarizers and extreme wide angles aren't always a good mix because polarization depends on angle of reflection, and at 12mm the lens takes in such a large angle that you'll see varying amounts of polarizer effect across the frame.

I'd also be a bit worried that if you stack something in front of the polarizer you might end up with some vignetting at 12mm.

Shooting the moon

This may be completely unrelated to what you're getting at, and forgive me if it's blatantly obvious - but for the best and most dramatic moon shots with lots of craters you need to shoot when the moon isn't full. Crescent moons or half-moons (ie, 1st or last quarter) give the best results.
