Not remotely surprising considering the millions of Canon users that exist.

Not a great omen for consumer choice 3 years into the future :(

Come to think of it you could combine shapelock with something else to keep the something else rigid :)

Shapelock offers an interesting potential, because it is mouldable, rollable and white. Bottom line make any shape, any thickness by dunking it in hot water and it goes soft => mouldable, rollable with a kitchen roller. Something I meant to try and make a diffuser from but a) life intervened and b) I had trouble getting even thickness

Some of my experience at Spreading the light with extreme macro diffusion - also look at related links at the bottom.

Often it's a compromise between maximum area from the pov of the specimen and being able to manouevre the dam thing into small spaces.

This worked really well for me for field stuff. The point is actual size doesn't matter, what matters is light breadth relative to specimen. Small, close is same as large far away, so for manoeuverability I went with small

Yes, thankyouverymuch for your advice about how to choose a camera system - I'm not entirely unfamiliar with photography. But, I'll be honest, it's not terribly helpful - not what I'm asking or why.

I do completely appreciate it's crystal ball gazing and that's tricky and a bit of a stretch. But if folks could give their informed opinion relating to the actual question that would be helpful

Hi,

I was hoping to canvass as wide a possible opinion base on which brand/model looks like it's winning the race to become THE mirrorless leader of the next 5/10 years. Investing in a new/unknown system is a big investment and I'd like to make sure I get it right for the medium term. If you could also explain why then that'd be really great

Thanks!!!

Great, thanks guys, appreciated. FWIW optical qualities don't matter, this baby sits over the flash for UVIFL

See Torches and UV flash for ultra violet fluorescence macro photography

And fwiw, I reached out to Baader, they're going to work with me in a sort of ambassador type gig. Specialised filter development and all that, so it's all good. Filters till the cows come home :)

Cheers :)

Fixing Baader-U with crack

So I just bought a 2" Baader-U with a crack for £35 which I am rather pleased with CONSIDERING THE BLOODY THINGS COST NORTH OF £250 NEW! Shout over :)

So it has the tiniest of tiny cracks, barely visible in this (terrible phone) photo:

So I'm wondering, it's a hairline crack, I think I can probably get away with a very thin accurate slice of gorilla tape over both sides.

But curious if anyone has tried this/found a more cost effective solution OR indeed if the filter will degrade because of exposure to air?

Thanks

Agree with top 3, though I think artificial light support & pp do also matter.

Bottom line a great image is also made, not always the best out of what's already there.

Eq matters in terms of convenience rather than miniscule pixel peeping attributes for me more than anything.
