I have the DA25mm 645 lens. As far as I know, the only difference between it and its DFA25mm predecessor is the shape of the lens hood built into the body of the lens. The newer DA version provides more shading to prevent flaring but will vignette more on the full frame 645.

Would you consider a used 645D? The ISO capabilities are much more limited and it doesn't have the nice tilting screen or the live view that the new CMOS sensor affords, but IQ is still top notch even at "only" 40 Mpx.

I didn't think Cactus could do HSS with Pentax. I tried without success and did some research on the net but found no confirmation.

There must be some sort of technical limitation because I'm surprised that a third party hasn't come up with working aperature control.

Mike, congratulations on your new 645Z. I thought you might be the last D holdout but I guess that will be me. I was wondering if your post processing technique changes much compared to the D. I understand that the Z produces very flat raw files that can take fair amount of post processing adjustment.

You can use AF for initial focus and live view to verify and manually fine tune focus to the near eye, for instance.

I believe the D-FA designation means that it will also work with the full frame 645 systems.

There has been a recent price drop on the 645z which might ease the financial burden. The DFA 28-45mm is lovely but really expensive. A good used FA 33-55mm can be had at a reason price. The upcoming FA 35mm looks like a winner and the FA 55mm is no slouch. Manual focus lens can be had for even less.

Used glass is still reasonable. I like the FA 45-85mm and the FA 33-55m as all purpose lens. Have fun with your new 645D.

If I'm not mistaken, eagles like most animals cannot perceive color - only rods, no cones in their eyes.

I can understand why people may have a negative opinion of Ken Rockwell but I don't see any point in posting derogatory comments about him. I just ignore him unless somebody is quoting him to bolster their arguments or opinions.

It doesn't appear that anybody is ridiculing or ctiticizing you. However, I can't tell you how you should feel.

I can tell you about my experience of migrating from my ancient ateam powered K10D to the K3. The first omage I took was my black nylon backpack on a dark maroon ottoman, indoor backlit by a skylight above and dimly front lit from a glassdoor. The image should have looked awful but I was astonished by the exposure, detail and color accuracy. Of course, it was all downhill from that point as I had to become more familiar with the K3. ;)

Questions re: K-3 II pixel shift and Astrotracer
Posted By robertchow999

If the astrotrace and pixel shift could work together, you would have to make an 8 second exposure, which the K3II would repeat four times during the pixel shift operation. That may require some processing horsepower.

Also, combining multiple exposures with astrotrace and pixel shift would be phenomenal, if possible. I think adding an espresso machine function would be easier, at the cost of portability.
