EISA 2018 No Pentax, No Surprise?!

I think Pentax just didn't meet the requirements to be nominated.

PRODUCT ELIGIBILITY AND TIMELINE
With the exception of products nominated purely for innovation or design all candidates for EISA Award nomination must have been tested by at least five member magazines from the appropriate Expert Group before the EISA AGM. To achieve this, the absolute deadline for supply of products to member magazines is 26th May 2018, but preferably before 31st March 2018, to ensure sufficient time for thorough testing. To coordinate delivery of your products to individual Expert Group magazines before April, please contact the appropriate Expert Group Manager []Staff | EISA – Expert Imaging and Sound Association. If you cannot supply before April then please contact EISA’s Vice President, Ljubiša Miodragovic, as soon as possible [ljubisa.miodragovic@eisa.eu]. Finally, to qualify for an EISA Award 2018-19, the nominated product(s) must also be available for sale in at least 10 European countries before 1st October 2018. Similarly, any pre-ordered products must be delivered to consumer(s) by the 15th Oct 2018. EISA Awards will be withdrawn from any products that fail to meet this deadline for their general availability.

100th Anniversary next year - what will they release?

Back on topic. I think Ricoh will not bring anything for the Asahi birthsday. They did a 80 year anniversary GRii for Ricoh's birthsday. Had some trouble selling all those, so why put company money in the birthsday of Asahi?

A portfolio of products (wich Pentax grew over the past years) is something different then looking at sales of those products (wich declined over the past years in units and in yen).

There is no Ricoh and Pentax. There is only Ricoh-Imaging, a division that makes camera's and markets them in the brands Ricoh and Pentax.

Im not framing anything. It's very simply reading and interpreting financial reports.

Pentax has not grown over the past 7 years. Pentax is much smaller now then it was when Ricoh took it over at the end of 2011.

For the running fiscal year their prognose is that the camera division will have sales decline of 10 %. Wich is considareble, but better then last years result with a downturn of 23 %.

Well they sold a number of 645z.....maybe between 1000-2000 units or so. But if it was more then financial reports would not easily have reported a decrease in sales.

For the start of the sale for K-1 in april 2016 we did see a large spike up in sales for that first quarter before the earthquake disrupted that.

Since we don't see new lenses for the 645 system, that maybe is because sales for the last releases, the 90mm and 28-45mm lenses, where not even close to be enough to make profit on them. The 35mm was just a refresh for the older lens.

People can have a consensus about the succes for the 645 system, but only if that was materializing in new lenses because sales support them it would have real meaning.

If they sold 1000 units 645Z at retail prize $ 8.499 then you would have seen this in figures. It is like selling 7.000 dfa*50mm lenses. So you would see a spike that wasn't visable. Unless ofcourse other sales went down a lot. Like k-mount sales down by like 30-40 %.

Wich is possible since I wrote a part about it.
Collapsing Japanese camera market! - PentaxForums.com

Then it would make sense that the move towards the K-1 was driven by panic.

Financial reports where not as popular in the 645Z time. Looked at it just briefly. The Imaging business was much bigger then today. The market was also bigger. They did with 645Z the same as with K-1, presenting it in april so iat the start of the new fiscal year. For the 645Z they did that in april 2014. Looking at the financial report for that presented in april 2015........

"Sales decreased in the camera business as compared to the previous corresponding period."

So the succes for the 645Z was not that big, unless K-mount sales plummitted that year. I guess it was only phrases used by the marketeers to promote the succes of the 645Z instead of real sales made.

Well from all current technologie Pentax uses, only the accelerator wasn't in the K-3ii. So to make something to stand out and make a difference Ricoh-Imaging needs to come up with some newly developed tech.

The 100th anniversary is the "ivory"........

So they will send out hunters to Africa and make and ivory handle for the jubilee KP.

I had some of the 645 lenses and used the 645D for some short time.

The FA 80-160 was a good lens to my idea.
The A (i'm not sure I also had the FA) 45 lens where not good.

Ofcourse al these lenses could use a modern update if the 645 system wants to be around for another decade.

what would Wikipedia make of this term?

Being 'Ronnish' - a term used by the fanbase of the former camera Brand Pentax about predicting the future, based on personal research of all available open sources and being right in the end all time.

Never had the K10D. A friend of mine has the K-x and I had a bunch of K-5's. And a K-3.

Ricoh-Imaging is a different company then the old one under Hoya or before. Ricoh-Imaging likes to present new items on homemarkets CP+. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

We will see all your wish es come true on Photokina.

I don't understand this. Why do you see negativity when I expect something new more at CP+ then at Photokina?

Photokina 2014 had K-S1 as new product and in 2016 there was only a display of the Pentax collection and no new product.

Looking at important new products (not the lukewarm uodates) then there are no new introductions at Photokina done by Ricoh-Imaging. The big ones are K-1, K-3 and 645Z.

Well Photokina isn't a very important show for Pentax, so anything new and important, we would see at CP+ in Japan, early 2019.

You just have to look for stores that have a history of having old stock on many things.

Audiophil in Germany and Fotokonijnenberg in the Netherlands have things others just sold sometimes years before. In packages, but wen you call you can mostly come to an agreement.
AudiophilFoto - Ihr Partner wenn Sie Profis suchen! | Shop | Kameras | Pentax
Pentax K-3 II + 16-50mm F2.8 + 50-135mm F2.8

Audiophil even has a new old stock K-5 Silver from 2011.

I read that to. Could be the next camera coming. But also not. A new flagship design is difficult and takes time. So what if they would present a K-90 at CP+ wich could be a lukewarm upgrade K-70. That is not so much work, since it would contain only cameraparts that Pentax already uses.

We don't know what is coming next....

I'm very happy that you understand Pentax and that you are all positive. You must have missed the trimming down of the line-up announcement when they publicly stated that.

To not go into a useless discussion with you, we will just wait for the next camera to be announced.
