Thanks! I'll give it a try soon when I have enough spare time to check. I was careful not to spray too much the first time; nothing else is malfunctioning in the K-x.

It should be fine, as long as you don't leave it plugged in more than a few hours after it's fully charged.

As far as third party, just tested a new Watson battery for my K-70. Works just as well as the OEM battery. Also bought the matching Watson charger. If I bought another Pentax battery and charger, it would have cost me $61 more. We'll see how this plays out for me in the long run as my K-70 is new.

My purpose is to see if the front/back focus setting can be modified. As I said in the OP, that's not something I need to do now.

Thanks for the link.

Is there anything like that for the K-70? Mine is brand new, so it's not something I'd need to play with anytime soon. I just want to know from current K-70 owners if the front/back focus settings can be tweaked, if needed.

I'll upgrade the firmware tonight or tomorrow. Will that affect any settings that I should look out for?

I'm glad I live near enough to NYC. I often try potential models at adorama and B&H. Most of the time, I still buy my gear online, but often from those two stores unless it's used.

I still have the K1000! Currently shooting some Ilford XP-2 film with it. Now I don't know when that'll be done though... just got my new K-70 in the mail LOL.

I also manual focus for some low light shots. Can't wait to test manual focus on my new K-70. I've been shooting since my teens, and I'm now in my early 40s. I'm just glad my vision's in good shape still.

What's your favorite 2008-2013 APS-C Pentax DSLR and do you still use it?

I've still got my K-x from 2009. Fixed the aperture/zoom knob recently, and got the MODSET.492 file to fix front/back focus. The sensor and camera processing still work well, and the camera's barely hovering at 10% of its rated shutter life. Love using the Lithium AAs for it... I can run on that for a few months VS having to recharge the batteries on my MILC every other day or so, built by the makers of the PS4 and a few of my favorite home entertainment components. S^&*... yeah LOL (it's all good) Hey, at least I got a Pentax K adapter for it with an aperture ring on it so I can use my lenses on the MILC!

Oh yeah...
Just got home an hour ago and unpacked my new K-70 kit from B&H. Charging the battery now... another three hours left before I can experiment with the new piece. Bought it with the 18-135 WR lens + Sandisk 32 GB card and Chiaro UV filter.

For the record, chose a K-70 kit with the 18-135 WR lens. My neighbor is holding the shipment until I arrive home from work later this afternoon. :)

Yep, can't wait for my new K-70 rig to arrive today! Ordered it with the 18-135 WR + SanDisk 32 gb SD card and a UV filter... a kit from B&H for $800 USD. I do have a bunch of lenses I like from my K-x and K1000, but opted for the kit as I wanted at least one weather resistant lens.

I've heard people crap on the 18-135 WR, but that's just it, crap. The images presented here and ones I have seen on flickr say otherwise. :)

Not too shabby, and exactly what I was looking for with the combination of body and lens. I'm looking for a new Pentax DSLR body to place my trusty K-x into backup mode.

Thanks for posting. :)

Haha... Anyway ... All the photos here are impressive. IDK... I may end up scoring a KP after all! Still mulling between this and a K-70. I have plenty of good lenses I like so no problems there.

I'll look into the eDial posts.

Yep... I'm already looking to grab a second body. My choices so far there are a new KP or K-70... but I'm willing to get a decent used K3-II or something else. I would love a more rugged body this time around.

Thanks!

I'm fairly confident in disassembling electronics, so I may go with the contact cleaner route. Someone in dpreview also recommended resetting the camera settings and reformatting the SD card. Seems excessive, but I'll give that a spin, too.

Pentax K-x aperture slide knob

The camera works well otherwise, but the aperture knob has become difficult to work with lately.

Short of buying another Pentax APS-C body or taking it to a repair shop, has anyone gone DIY and either fixed/replaced the knob, or tried to clean the contacts with contact cleaner?

I'd really hate to write off my K-x as unusable. Even though I've had it for ten years, the shutter count on mine is barely hovering at 10% of its rated life. I'm not kidding.

Any advice would be appreciated.

But not new to Pentax.

I've been through a few of their cameras, especially an older screwmount Spotmatic and a k1000. I still have both of them; the k1000 is used occasionally.

The Spot now sits in a cabinet in the living room at home as a conversation piece. Its shutter works, but the mirror is locked up. I can't be bothered to have it fixed, so there it sits.

Up until a year ago, I've used nothing but these cameras for most of my shooting. Apart from some smaller point-and-shoot digital cameras (both Canon ;)), I didn't want to go digital with my 'serious' photography... until I was forced to realize the rising cost of shooting film. At that point (Oct 2010, the K-x was within my reach, so I bought one from B&H in New York City. Shooting has been great ever since, and I recently got a 35mm f2.4 DA lens, which brings a bit of an old-school feel to some of my photos. Someday, I should score an adapter for the lens that's on the Spot, a 50mm f1.4. I think that piece would be great to use digitally.
