Pentax K1 or Pentax K1 Mark ii

You know, it sounds like this isn't so much a spec issue but more economical. If I can afford it I would get the latest model. You lose nothing by getting Mark 2 other than a bit of cash. But I take it that if you are asking the money may not be an issue...

New Lensbaby Velvet 56mm f1.6 in PK mount

I'm actually a big fan of the company. I even have an original lensbaby in 67 mount and I often experiment on my 645D via 67 to 645 adaptor. It certainly opened doors that I didn't know existed - that's for sure.

I still think that FF GR monochrome is a great idea but I maybe the only one who would buy such a thing.

How genuinely useful it depends on how much you value that sort of accessories. For me GR is a monster point and shoot in terms of image quality. I literally point and shoot from the hips. So for me its not that good of a deal.

At this point, with so many months has passed by since the original K-1 came out, it feels like it is a better use of money to save that money aside and put it towards the purchase of a new body, whatever the brand that maybe.

For me, especially with bigger lenses, the posture or the angle of shot tend to sag downward ever so slightly. The grip compensates that just right.

Looks like a very nice camera. But I cannot help but feel like Nikon is becoming more and more like an one trick pony. I am not sure if they are diversified enough to survive.

Hi guys,

Thanks in advance.

I have a 77 ltd with stuck focus ring out of warranty.

Is there someone that has great reps amongst forum members who can fix it?

Of course Mike that if we were to take both cameras and sensors to their absolute limits, Z will go much further in terms of image qualify that we often speak of. Sure, there is no comparison. When I look at your work I think this is probably even more true. I can see that you take it to the edge, and you do a fantastic job with that. I can see if you printing large, and this will really show, even more I bet. This is precisely why MF format exists because there is an area of photography where MF can make a huge difference in the end product. Landscaping is it.

In some ways I am going through a phase. When I was younger I unknowingly put too much emphasis on what cameras can do - and I used to marvel at the extent of its sharpness. Now I am beginning to think that it can actually take some things away from the the work itself. The sharpness is just one aspect of many that make up a set of anesthetics. There is more to it, as you know. The balance is what I look at.

K-1 is definitely a bridge between APS-C and MF. The way this camera is designed - it fills that gap better than any FF cameras I have ever handled. While there are areas that K-1 can never match when put up against Z. But if your work is willing to live with D, I think K-1 comes pretty damn close.

I think that it is an amazing camera. Files are jaw dropping at times, prints are even more astounding. I would love to have one.

I am one of those people that Adam suggested that prefer D over Z on color rendition. I thought about moving on to Z, but when I saw the prints I decided not to, as I wasn't concerned too much about dynamic range. The color rendition is warmer with D. Z files felt too harsh for my work. Interesting that this was exactly what happened when I thought about going from K10D to K20D.
Now to make the matters more difficult, now we have K-1, which I think is almost superior than 645D.

645Z vs. K1 - Do you own both?

Unless you shoot for a living, the best camera is the one you have it on you most. Since I got my K-1, the use of 645d has decreased dramatically. Lately I got myself a GR, and now I cannot let go. You see where I am getting at. Size has lots of implications.

Hiking Photography - What Gear To Bring?

Well, I think any of your choices are great as long as you don't regret it. Yes I understand that is probably the reason why you posted this. But this is to me about what you want out of it. Me personally, if I go hiking with non photographer crowd, I would take my GR II with me cuz I don't want to feel like I am slowing my buddies down. This is why I used to hike alone (yes I know it's dumb) if my purpose of a hike is to photos. I mean I can sit on the same spot for hours to get the lighting right. I used to take my 645d and a 35 and 55 and a 105 on overnight hikes. But if your purpose is to have fun with your friends, then I go as light as I can.

I am very happy for you but at the same time can't help but feel a tiny bit sorry for myself, as when I bought it about 6 months after it came out, I paid near $10,000 US. But as with all tech stuff, and especially in camera bodies these days, the rate of depreciation is what I more or less expected. :hmm:

It still is a very awesome camera, and I have very much come to love that sensor, and so much so that I held off on 645Z. The ruggedness of that camera really is such an unique feature. I have taken it along, despite its size and weight, just about everywhere that I have visited in the last six years of my life. It can really take a beating.

Selling a prime to get a zoom? Are you sure? 35 limited macro may well be one of the finest lenses Pentax has put out - but that's just my opinion. I think twice about doing that.
