k 01 question

thank you for your reply.
when turning the camera on (in auto mode) it is sometimes in a photo taking mode and other times it's in a movie taking mode. it's an erratic problem (if it is a problem).
when turning the dial to ALL other modes they are each assigned correctly. if I turn it to p it's in p mode. if I then turn it back to auto it always takes me into a photo taking mode.
the (assigning) problem is when turning the camera on.

thank you for your reply.
when I put the camera in to all its modes they ARE the correct modes..so there is (I'm supposing) neither a previous or current (wrongly assigned) selector switch issue.
will try to reset the camera and see if that cures the problem. ther problem is somewhat erractic in that sometimes (once turned on) it IS in photo mode and other times it is in movie mode.

k 01 question

hello ... when turning on my (new) k01 (with selector set to auto mode) the camera is set up to take hd video. there is no immediate availability of taking photos. I did not set the camera up for this. my previous k01 (once turned on in auto mode) was all ready to take photos...and this (an immediate availability to take photos) has been the norm with all cameras owned. I have made no alterations within the menu. naturally I would like (once turned on) the immediate availability of taking photos. is there a setting to correct this? perhaps there is a fault? your help would be appreciated. anticipated thanks

getting the best from a third party lens adapter

am looking to get this answered so am not sure where the best place is. have (hence) submitted two threads. as it happens even with the two threads I cannot get the questions answered. I did not realise that there was a law (unwritten or otherwise) against it. with regard the question(s)..why have you invited the inputting of 28-90mm when invited to (for the fixed fl) on the camera? from what I can see/tell there is ABSOLUTELY no way that this is possible and you are (I believe) misleading me (and/or yourself) into thinking and suggesting that there is!?

---------- Post added 03-20-14 at 05:05 PM ----------

it says 28-90mm on the lens. set it to whatever it says IN the lens. sorry .. what does that mean? IN the lens. I'm invited (like all others) by the camera to INPUT the focal length. am looking to use a 28-90mm lens. WHAT focal length do I input (on the screen) when asked/invited?

getting the best from a third party lens adapter

hello .. am looking for a basic janet and john type introduction/insight into using a third party adapter with the q.
an adapter that gives me the ability to use a k mount lens .. specifically a 28-90mm zoom.
when invited what should I set the focal length to?
should I take the 5.5 x crop factor into consideration?
would I set the fl to 450mm .. the extreme end of the zoom OR 154mm .. the wider end?
alternatively should I set the fl to either 28 or 90mm?
the adapter I have does have a very crude aperture control.
should I leave it wide open and use the aperture control on the lens itself?
do I have auto aperture control available to me? if not .. what should my starting point be? aperture control? shutter speed control? manual?
can I or do I use the leaf shutter? is it electronic shutter control only with a non pentax adapter? do I have any sr abilities? are there no sr abilities?
does the use of a third party adapter limit me to manual usage only?
what are the best settings to use?
anticipated thanks

using a k mount lens on pentax q

hello .. have bought a converter (to k mount lenses) for the q. it's not a pentax model. would appreciate a step by step guide on how to set it up and the resultant abilities. can I just manually focus with it? if using a zoom lens (28-90) should the distance be set at 450mm? is there sr (shake reduction) available? the answers to the above and all other relevant questions is welcome. it might be that I need to link onto a previous thread. I have looked for one that gives a janet and john explanation but cannot find one. anticipated thanks

am not sure what I can/should say when submitting this photo.
I'd consider there to be an unusual contrast of the tree and leaves.
old trunk/bark yet young and fresh leaves.

Pentax K-5 II: $599 at B&H - Black Friday Fire Sale!

as a uk buyer this was not available to me...least not without paying many hundreds of dollars in import tax. never mind .. I am awash with special offer black friday pentax gear .. NOT! in this part of the world there was NOTHING on offer with a pentax sticker on it. all in all the deals were disappointing. of the few (limited) things that were wanted/needed/desirable..they were ALL gone in under 1 second.
I looked to buy a few things and though putting them in my basket within 1 second..there were always many buyers who got in before me. HOW!? am guessing that some folk have/had an unfair advantage over me and all other prospective buyers.

I can access the iso via the lcd screen in sv and tav modes..but no others. does that mean that the page 85 settings/diagram IS ONLY accessible via live view? .. and is the iso setting really ONLY accessible in the two modes mentioned? I've a feeling that I am doing something wrong. surely I CAN access iso settings in manual mode?

am the proud owner of a used k30. have thrown myself into the deep end with this camera with many learning curves ahead of me...so I apologize in advance for my ignorance. question: when using the viewfinder to take pictures with which modes can I access the iso setting? page 85 of the manual shows a diagram of the iso settings that can be accessed using the 4 way controller..but I cannot access these settings/open this diagram. I CAN access it via live view but I want to be able (if I can) to access it via the evf mode. can I actually access this diagram/4 way toggling ability? is this for live view only? what (if anything) am I doing wrong? anticipated thanks

I WILL try this but it does seem to be a very cheap (3) cruelly convoluted way of creating macro

would like to be able to photograph the hairs on a skunks scrotum...only joking!
filling the lens with a spider would be good/ok
I currently have a 35mm f2.4 lens..which I'm guessing will work well with extension tubes.
given what they (extension tubes) DO would I be right in thinking that I don't need
be too fussy with what brand I buy?
am guessing that I'll be confined to manual focussing.
other lenses: sigma 50-200 dc os hsm...pentax 18-55mm DA .. 28-70 fa
anticipated thanks

obviously 'cheap' is totally subjective .. with one mans 'that's cheap' being another mans 'how much!'
having looked at the prices of the 50 and 100mm f4 macro lenses I am the latter man.
other (cheaper) alternatives are invited/welcomed

yes .. that's the one I was looking at.
am looking for a good/inexpensive (as opposed to great/expensive) macro and this (on the face of it) seems to fit the bill.
good detective work by you.
thank you

from your answer and other digging around it would seem that this lens will NOT fit my k30. the seller has it advertised as being suitable for pentax but (when written to/asked) he can't/won't confirm this. I will just steer clear. thank you for reply
