And now, DXOmark should give another bogus reason why they still have not rated the K-70 or the KP...

Fuji to Aquire Xerox for $6.1 Billion

I don't know about the copiers but I think I can predict the winner in the camera business: Pentax was bought by Ricoh but Fuji buys Xerox. I am probably not the only one having moved from Pentax (K5IIS) to Fuji (X-T20).

Yes, but things are moving. Personally, it's carrying a heavy camera I got tired of.

If this means something, it is that mirror cameras will soon be items from he past, at least for most people. Frankly, you have to be very brave to carry around a brick of over one kg when you can have a close enough IQ for half less in weight. The K5IIS will be my last SLR.

How many lenses do you have?

Not long ago, when I realized I had 24 lenses and that some were not used anymore because I had better ones, I decided to sell some. So far I have sold 3 M-type lenses and 2 A-type ones are for sale. The ones I will keep are the DA21, DA70, FA135, DFA100macro, and a range of K-series lenses, except for the most bulky ones perhaps (50 f1.2 and 135 f2.5). I would like to get down to 10-12 lenses but it's easier said than done because I only have primes.

Thank you for the advice. I was basing my opinion on some comparisons I made using RAW files dowloaded from DRP, but this is not real life. More valuable is others' experience.[COLOR="Silver"]

Quite right. If it had speed and ISO dials, one could start talking about retro look but I don't see much here that reminds me of my old Mx. The Fuji XT-s are much closer.

Same here. The K5IIS still shines IQ-wise, and it is even a little bit smaller than the KP.

I might go to Fuji for a while, adapting my Pentax lenses, and move back to Pentax when they finally come out with an outstanding MILC. After so long time, it will have to be outstanding...

Yet another SLR... how boring! This is not what I longed for. I wish I could mount my numerous old lenses on a body equipped with a state of the art EVF. If Pentax does not come out with one soon, I will probably move to Fuji. The X-T20 is very tempting. It would probably offer a significant jump in IQ over my K5IIs and decent video, unlike the recent APS-C Pentax bodies.

Landscape Horses by Barn

To me, the horses appear too centered in the frame. Adopting a 4/3 ratio and slightly cropping from the top left corner would address this issue of an otherwise very pleasing image. It would also reduced the space above the horses to less than 1/2 of the image height, making them more salient.

Thank you todd. It was a nice winter light with the sun being quite low but sometimes, one wishes to have a few clouds above. This empty sky is what prompted me to add a bit of vignetting.

Thank you for your appreciation. I am mentioning the Nik software which is made of a set of different plug-ins that can be used with Lightroom or Photoshop. My favorite is Silver Efex Pro, for B&W conversion. I purchased this one some years ago. Since then, the Nik company was bought by Google. A few days ago, Google issued a statement that they were now giving the whole lot for free. You'll find it here:

https://www.google.com/nikcollection/

I can't remember which preset I have used to edit the image but there are only 9 of them in Analog Efex Pro. You then choose a type of film and tune the intensity of the transformation to taste. It is quite simple and fun to play with. It does not suit every image though.

Thank you all for your replies. I have found a tutorial that provides a good introduction to the various Nik plug-ins. The use of control points looks indeed very appealing.

Nik software plug-ins: which benefit over LR?
Posted By fg-one

I have just installed the free Nik software bundle as plug-ins in LR5. I had purchased Silver Efex Pro some years ago and I really like it. I can see the benefit over LR monochrome processing. I have quickly tested the other packages and so far, the only one I am impressed with is the Raw Presharpener which gives artefact-free sharp images, unlike the Output sharpener. I was disappointed by Color Efex pro which in my (unqualified) hands resulted in detail loss. I have found boosting saturation and vibrancy in LR was as effective on colors, without detail loss. Dfine seemed efficient but how more than LR5, I failed to notice. As I use Enfuse for HDR, I don't really need Fusion Express and have not tested it. I am sure I need more tries and learning to reap the benefit of this package. So I would appreciate if you could ease the process by letting me know where to start and where not bother. In your experience, what is the added benefit of each plug-in over LR processing? Which ones do you appreciate and which ones are useless to you? Thank you.

35mm for K-1 ?

Quite right. I failed to see any significant difference in IQ between the Nokton 58 and a good old Pentax-K 50 f1.4. I decided to sell the Nokton. It's bulkier and its metering was not as precise in Av mode as the Pentax' in M mode.

Not so rare. I had one for sale on a well known French site (LBC). It stayed there for several months and finally went in January after I had dropped the price. So keep looking. Another one might come out.
