DA*50-135 any reason not to buy?

If you prefer zooms, I consider it the finest Pentax zoom available. Outstanding image quality, quick focus on K10D in good light, not as heavy as FF f2.8 lenses, balances well on K10D. If I could shoot only 2 lenses I would choose the 50-135 and FA 31mm.
Best wishes,

Thanks for all the interest. I am struggling to respond to everyone. I have just updated the list with pending sales and sold items. Please do not be offended if you do not hear back right away, it probably means someone or many are ahead of you for that item. But I will answer everyone. many thanks.

No reason, other than I need to sell the gear and I wanted to sweeten the deal on the older body and not be hassled with dividing all the stuff into smaller shipments. Hopefully my laziness will provide someone a good deal.;)

PM's replied.
Daacon, the 31mm and DA* 50-135 are the ones I will miss the most. They make beautiful images. And of course "need" has nothing to do with it.:D

how does multipoint focusing work?

Will, I have photographed 7 weddings this spring with DA* 16-50 and 50-135 on my k10d. When the lights drop at the reception for dancing, the DA* 16-50 is the fastest to focus of my three main lenses, including the 50-135, FA 31, and FA77. I use center point focussing always.

best mode for fill flash

Will,
As you know, I have had my share of frustration with the AF 540 and K10D. However, for my last several weddings, I have put the camera on Manual mode when shooting inside. My typical settings are around 1/125 and f4-5.6. I set the flash to P-ttl and shoot away. I get much more consistent flash results. I bounce the flash at 90 degrees with the reflector card pulled up.
For outside shooting I have been using manual flash mode with some success and I prefer the control it gives me over the amount of fill light. I am again usually in manual mode on the K10d (around 1/180); I try for a camera meter reading of between -1 and -2 exposure. I then set the flash to 1/16 or 1/32 power depending on ISO and subject distance. My results are more predictable because I have greater control. I will try to email you some photos later today.

My first wedding shoot with new gear- advice?

I would second each of Will's suggestions. My wedding equipment mirrors his, except I carry only 2 cameras. Initializing the SD cards ahead of time is a good suggestion I learned the hard way. In the middle of a ceremony I needed to change cards; however I didn't realize I hadn't reformatted the card I inserted. By the time I realized I had already taken 20 photos with it. (remember I was in the middle of the ceremony.:o) I then had to delete the older images one at a time to free up space on the card. Some of us learn the hard way.
Good luck and let us know how it went.

If I need gear in a hurry, can't wait for B&H to ship, and Penn Camera is out of stock, I will use Ritz. The two DC stores I have frequented have been very helpful and supportive of Pentax. In early March I needed a 2nd Pentax Flash; while I was purchasing it, the clerk asked if I wanted to have a look at the new K20D. It had just arrived and he was very enthusiastic about it and the relatively new DA* lenses. He was also a good salesman in that he knew he had a Pentax user in front of him. The next time I am back in that store I will get his name as it is equally important to drop a note for excellent service as it is for bad service.

My Pentax Sponsorship Over...

Peter,
I shoot for an established wedding photographer. She uses Canon but allows me to use my Pentax K10d and DA*s. To date she is pleased with the quality of my images (both what I and what Pentax produce). I have met up with her and some other local photographers on a few ocassions for some model shoots and social events. Invariably the conversations turns to gear. When I am asked what I shoot and respond Pentax, I get a fascinating response. Many photographers say, oh yea I learned on a Pentax (usually k1000); do they make dslr's?
At one model shoot, a well meaning photographer was convinced I was dragging my shutter. It was only the solid thwack of the K10D shutter compared with her Canon 1d???:D
