Mde1970 really like the first shot. Emacs you almost make shooting with a fish eye seems natural 😉

Leica screw-mount lenses on a K-3?

Yes, the SLR lens will be more predictable but the results of the Zeiss lenses are quiet amazing when it comes together! Honestly I use the 28 a lot less than either the 45mm or the 90mm but that's just my shooting style. If I want wide I go ultra wide! I uses the 28mm a lot more on APS-C NEX which may be why the 45mm feels so natural to me.

Leica screw-mount lenses on a K-3?

I'm not sure the LPF is needed even at 24 MP FF (RX1r, Leica M, etc) but Sony chose to include a weak one on the A7. My experience is very good with the Contax G 45mm and longer RF lenses. I have a G 28mm and CV 15mm. Depending on distance, focus, etc the corners can be soft (more on the 15 and this really does vary) and there is vignetting (always but often not an issue with the Sony sensor's great latitude). At times there is some color shift which correctable via the Sony app and fairly well in RAW conversion (my limitation there is more Aperture than the camera).

So with symmetric wide angles there are some issues but I find they are greatly exaggerated be the internet echo chamber. I have found no issues with any retrofocal/SLR wide angles. Really I think the A7 is the lens adapters dream body. The sensor is about as forgiving as they come these days while still having a lot of resolution.

I'm going to have throw in for the Sony e-mount. The A7 is a bit more costly than most of these crop bodies mentioned but handles legacy glass very well (the A7r a little less so) and Sony offers an in-camera app that will do custom JPEG correction for vignetting and CA aberration. I shoot with a screw mount voightlander 15mm all the time on my A7. The NEX 5N is also a good, cheap option though the 24mp NEX-7 has a tough time with Leica wide angle primes. The viewfinder on the A7 is very helpful for manual focus lenses.

Not at all! Really liked the second of this set but I'm limited to my phone ATM so maybe it just works better small. Still nice results from a cheap and cheerful lens!

On the rare times I do shoot with a zoom these days I try to always think of it as a collection of primes then a "zoom". It helps me be less lazy and think about how I want to capture a subject in space.

Nope. There's a lot of us. Different handle there.

Very few reviews. From what I gather it will only work in crop mode and requires a fair amount of digital correction. Take that with a grain of salt. Not much out there

Not really. Compared to the other premium "normal" primes it's a steal. Look at the Nikon 58mm. Yes the Nikon is a hair faster but the actual light transmission difference (t stops not f stops) is 1/3 at best. The Nikon is $1700! Bigger, softer, and only better corrected for coma. Same could be said for Sony's own ZA 50mm. I don't own the FE 55mm because I already shoot with the Contax G 45mm but I'm tempted.

Close. Contax Zeiss 90 & 45mm. I really like the new primes but the performance I get out of these old Contax G lenses makes it impossible to justify.

Most reviewers are saying no, they're pretty similar with the R being only a tad sharper when pixel peeping or printing really, really big. The A7 is actually more forgiving with legacy rangefinder lenses but the A7r shoots (slightly) better video and is neck and neck with the A7 in high-ISO despite the much smaller pixel pitch.

You guys are a really making me want to break back out my Sigma 30! I tried to sell that lens as it gets almost no use once I bought a Contax G 28mm however I still think it is the sleeper hit of the NEX series. Interesting how the bokeh usually got knocked by reviewers but I really like the transition between focus and out of focus in all these shots. Also Kevin that last shot is a great candid despite the somewhat jerky AF performance of the lens (or is it just my copy?). Good pics!

As a side note I was a little sad to discover that the Sigma 30mm doesn't quiet cover the A7's whole sensor. It gets to about APS-H size but the corners are black.

Great Pics all! Michelek I think I like the second cat picture with the green background best. Nesster really great "experiments" the second is very visually expressive. I'd love to hear more about your setup and how you put all this together.

These are both really great. Something about that second one really grabs me. Interesting angle and composition but also a kind of tension between the child (daughter?) playing innocently in the sand and the some what ominous sky.

Bimjo: like the third the best. Slightly better combo of colors and lack of flare.

Sony just opened their WiFi API for the NEX cameras so all it will take is an enterprising developer to write an app. I've never used Google Glass (and I find the whole appeal kind of odd) but I believe it would need a smart phone to actually run the app and mirror itself display to the Glass? Or can the Glass itself run apps? Well, now we're getting way off topic...

For some reason hinman your lastest pictures are not showing up for me; however, I have had serious internet problems of late so it may be on my end. A few snaps from this summer. My wife and I also went to southern spain and paris for a few weeks. I need to pick out the best few to share here a bit later:

Hin, really like that second shot in particular. The lens turbo/speedbooster wasn't around when I sold my M42 35mm however I bet its a good pairing. The only negative to the 35mm was the amount of light it let in. It seems to retain its pleasant contrast and corner sharpness on the turbo and it isn't too big to boot!

These make me miss my 35mm f3.5. I loved that lens. Not super fast by today's standards but great even wide open and I loved the way it worked with my NEX. Sadly it didn't get much use after I got the Sigma 30mm and I felt I had to sell it. I hope the buyer appreciated the little gem.

JCdoss, I love the pics. A little surprised you don't like the M-200mm, I had the M42 version and really liked it although its been a long time since I sold it so maybe my memory has become a little gold leafed of late. I personally don't use telephotos that often.
