The new and the old

My theme for the photo shoot of musician, Jeff de Boar, was organic and rustic. I wanted to portray Jeff in the very elements that he so expressly enjoys. Jeff is a musician whose songs celebrate the beauty of nature, people, and love. A person who is probably more comfortable behind a microphone and guitar than in front of a camera; it seemed fitting to place him in surroundings that reflected his heart, encouraging him to relax and be himself. What appealed to me about this location was the ruggedness of the building worn by time and modern day hands. (Written with the permission of Jeff de Boar)

Just letting you know that the conclusion of my research was to either go for the LumoPro LP604 5-Section 6ft Stand or the LumoPro 8' Black A/C Stand.

People seem to refer to Interfit as being a cheap brand.

Close to me is this beautiful abandoned home, I have driven past it many times and just longed to do a photo shoot there. So much so that when my brother-in-law was wanting some photos for his music career, I arranged to do the photo shoot at the abandoned home. I saw the wooden frame of what was left of the veranda and just new that it would act like a beautiful rustic frame.

I have the book Understanding Exposure. While I had a fairly good understanding of Apertures, ISO etc, this just helped to fine tune my knowledge - highly recommend it.

I use the centre point and then recompose. I have my camera set to single not continuous focus. Occasionally I use the points, however, that is probably only less than 5% of the time.

Softbox for flash?

Hi

I own a Sigma EF-530 DG flash and have been using bounce flash successfully in TTL mode.

I want to use it off the camera and would like to learn how to use it in manual mode ('strobist' style). I was thinking of buying a 60x60 cm folding softbox (not an umbrella) and stand to use as a 1 light starter setup. I am fairly new to this, I know that there will be some reduction in f/stop of about 2 stops, but would this setup still work for non-studio, on-location portraiture?

Hi Pentaxians from here and abroad,

I have been a DSLR Pentax owner from nearly two years and have been meaning to join this forum for ages - finally have got around to.

Bought my DSLR because of my love of my fathers Pentax Spotmatic and still have all of his lenses. My K20D has not let me down I am very happy with this solid, well built camera.

Bye for now
