Pentax fa 77mm limited vs Samyang 85mm f1.4

Agreed! In most situations I prefer more defined bokeh edges: Pentax fa 50mm f1.7, Pentax da 55 sdm or even Helios 44... My preferred it's fa 50mm f1.7...

Pentax fa 77mm limited vs Samyang 85mm f1.4

Well, in my opinion Samyang has one of the smoothest bokeh I have ever seen and I have used a lot of lenses! The rendering, that's another story, it looks a little flat sometimes especially in comparison with 77... And that manual focusing it's very hard on a 85mm lens. With my Helios 44 or my Pentax a 50mm f1.7 I have no trouble focusing...

Thank you all for your answers! I will go for 77 when I'm gonna have the chance! The new Pentax 85mm will be for sure very expensive!

Hello everybody! I have one question for you: Should I keep my Samyang or should I sell it and buy 77mm limited?
The main reason will be that Samyang it's very hard to focus, especially at big apertures and my eyes are not getting younger. As I can see, Samyang it's got a better smoother bokeh but not that special rendering... So, what do you think?

Maybe I'm crazy but I don't like the images made by this lens. They look lifeless, with almost no pop! Yes, sharpness, yes bokeh but... I see more life in da 55mm sdm, fa 50mm f1.7, helios 44, fa 31, 43, 77, etc. It seems that too many elements are in this lens, so you gain sharpness but that's all! I see this in many Sigma lenses with too many elements! I'm not necessarily talk about 3d pop, just some life in the images...Just a thought!

On Pentax a 50mm f1.7 I recommend burst shots and moving a little bit until you get a perfectly sharp focus...

I'd say both: da 50 for modern, smoother bokeh and 50mm f1.7 for old school bokeh with more defined edges. In fact, I prefer 50mm f1.7 but that's me...

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 vs. Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 (urgent)

Well! I really don't like Sigma rendering! It's only one Sigma lens that I like: 105mm macro! In my view, Tamron it's very, very close to Pentax type of rendering and I've had 28-200mm and I have 17-50mm...

I have the 55mm sdm and not the 43. The bokeh it's smooth from f2 in those circumstances so 43 doesn't have any ace in his pocket starting from f1.9... But it depends on the background, of course. You can have very smooth bokeh even from 1.4... It has the 3d pop too, sdm focusing and quiet, whether sealed and it's very handsome! My vote goes to 55mm sdm...

Not my experience! Very, I said very sharp from f2.8! It can be a very good landscape lens! But, strangely or not you have to refocus if you focused first on f1.4 if you want to shoot at f4, 5.6 etc

Hello again! My lens came back! Guess what: they did nothing! They say that it was tested with two cameras and no problem! Let's say I was wrong with the focusing problems but still got blank images from time to time because of that sticky aperture lever... The lens came back in m position on the aperture ring: maybe they not even tested on av mode... The good news are that I have a 5 years guarantee card so I can given them a headache, again! For now I will wait until the sticky aperture lever problem to get worse or to cure itself! If it's gonna be worse I will send it back and this time I'm gonna make a video with the issue... I think that guarantee card it's just for dummies! This is the message that I've sent them, too! Surely, they don't love me!:)) Thank you all for support! Happy shooting for you all!

I'm using av mode... More interesting: in m mode with green button: f1.8 1/50, f2 1/30, iso 800... I think it's not the lens maybe the camera not measuring properly...

---------- Post added 03-17-2019 at 01:16 PM ----------

That's quite strange... Could be the camera... Try the fa 50mm f1.7 in manual mode with green button!

Hello! I've observed an intriguing fact about my 31mm limited: at f1.8 and f2 it gives the same exposure value. So, if at 1.8 it's 1/50 it will be the same at f2! Even if they have the same shutter speed, the image it's different, more contrast at f2 and not so rounded bokeh... This is good especially when you shoot in low light... Your copy of this lens behaves the same?
