What a phenomenal lens, it just loves to take portraits:

Au naturel
Don't get lost in her eyes

It has spoiled me, now I want the dfa*85 for head and shoulders portraits

Better to buy Pentax 77mm or 85mm* ???

I'll definitively get the dfa*85, in your position:

-If you're making money from pics, you're going to get back the investment, and a modern, fast and reliable focusing lens is always a great plus
-Rendering consistency. I've the 50-135 as you, and the dfa*50 and they render extremely similar in colour, contrast, etc. I'm pretty sure the dfa*85 shares the same rendering qualities. That means is going to be much easier for you to edit a session taken with those lenses, when dealing with colour profiles, etc.

I've and had limiteds and love them, but star glass is just on another level altogether. Just give yourself the treat of modern glass.

Get an used Ricoh GR.
It will redefine what "portability" means, and the lens is insanely good in sharpness and rendering.

Didn't notice! Thanks. These days, most wagons I see are flatcars, so perhaps something moved and protruded out of the wagon.

Would love to see some pics of the British railways. I've been a railfan/ model railroader since I was 5 or 6.

Anyway; another bridge. Whitefish, Montana.

Pentax-A* 200/4 Macro vs Voigtlander 180/4

I've the Voigt 180mm. Is about the size of the 20-40 (see attached) so very compact and portable. 49mm filters shared along many Pentax lenses, great 1:4 pseudo macro

What is not, is "usable" wide open. The darn thing is a monster! By far the sharpest lens I own/ever owned, and that includes macros, limiteds, Zeiss and star. Is so sharp at F4, I rarely stop it down. Zero aberrations, as a true APO.
Focus throw and dampening are perfect, like a Takumar or Zeiss; so is top notch build quality.

On the other hand, coatings are behind Pentax and Zeiss. I always use a hood to improve colour saturation and contrast, and adjust in post.

Not wanting to shameless self plug, but I'm willing to sell it, as I'm not a tele guy at all

I'll keep the 20-40 and Da*55, use the 58mm filters, with a step up ring for the 20-40 (55mm in diameter); plus the A*85.

As mentioned by AfterPentax before, both 20-40 and 55 are WR and silent focusing; and having the versatility of a zoom is really useful in many situations.
I also keep the 31, and sell the 21, 43 and 70.

smc Pentax DFA 100mm f2.8 Macro - Fringing stopped down to about f5.6?

Yes I did. Shouldn't I been able to express my review of my lens?

Sad to single out someone because his opinion differs to yours.

In the past, I've readed in the forum that the formula is the same as F and FA, and by the number of elements, I thought it was the same. It certainly feels like a film era lens in purple fringing, colour, contrast, saturation, glare, like the film era lens I used to have.

The limiteds (15, 20-40, 35, 70) I have/used to have and my da*50-135 doesn't show that behaviour. Both inside with strobes and outside, the dfa100 image quality looks more akim to the old lenses than the new ones.

Thanks and best regards.

It does. Is beyond terrible, actually. F8 and you still get lots of fringing.
By far the worst of my lenses in that regard, to the point I no longer use it. Clearly an old, film era design and it shows; stay away.

Embarking on an experiment (K3 II vs. GR III)

Get the GR, you'll never ever regret the purchase.
I've a Kp which is smaller than K-3 plus both 15mm ltd and 20-40 ltd; a friend of mine borrowed his GR ii for testing it over a weekend.

The handling and inconspicuousness of the GR plays on another different level, is a street photo monster and the best purpose-designed camera I've ever tested. One handed operation is where it shines, a dsrl or milc can't even come close.
People don't notice you or don't bother because they think you're shooting an old Sony cybershot/Nikon coolpix kind of camera. Try that with a dslr.....

The image quality is amazing, the lens sharpness is phenomenal! A sample of the quick pics I did (jpg stooc, didn't mess with my friend's settings)

El cafetero by Gian Claudio Palazzolo, en Flickr

Living as you do in NY, it would be a no brainer for me. I'm planning to visit your city in june and buying the GR is the first thing on my list.

No, you do a minimal amount of sanding to an U shaped part which is moved by the solenoid. It seems the tips of this part develop or have a flash (like casting flash) and get stuck inside the solenoid.

Anyways, the amount of sanding is ridiculously small.

I let my K50 to rest for two weeks without shooting for checking if it could lock with time, and nope, everything works fine!
