Increase Image Sync transfer speed by 2x by switching to playback mode

Hi,

I think that the hardware is the key. A laptop with 16gb of RAM, i7 CPU and a dedicated WiFi chipset, also only with the old "n dual band @ 300Mbit\s", is far superior than a smartphone (my tests are with an LG V30).

Cheers,
Andrea

Yep, there isn't a limit to the number of shots that you can add to a Program.

About Focus Stacking: the USB SDK allows a steps adjustment and this is theoretically superior than define points of focus but we have to verify in pratic.

The user can use the app to manage the Planned Shots. Import/Export function purpose is to share Planned Shots between different installations or users and I have to avoid potentially dangerous situations that can break the software or the hardware.

Cheers

Hi,

thanks for sharing this. I did some tests with "WiFi Commander for Pentax" about this and effectively the available bandwidth depends on camera status... also if the display is ON or OFF:

This is normal. If you change the parameters on the camera then you have to press the reload button to refresh the app.

Nice points.

I can't do an export->edit->import because every parameters need to be validated by the camera. The edit in another software means that the user can write also bad values or bad text, this would lead to errors in the communication to the camera, unexpected behaviors as well as an huge work of checking and validating the inputs.

About focus stacking, the purpose is to have areas in focus one behind the other.
I have do some tests and I obtained very good results simply adding samples. If a stack with 5 shots isn't enough to have all significant parts in focus just add a shot with the focus on the "critical" zone. The user must not redo the entire Program, he can take only this picture and add it to the photo editing software.
Keep in mind also that the photo editing software can do mistakes during the merge process. Definitely focus stack needs a bit of work.

From my youtube video example:

Photoshop 2019 has left some artifacts after the automatic process:

Simply by changing the masks between layers I obtained this:

You can also see that the near part of the FA 43 cap isn't perfectly on focus, this because I wanted to show in my video that it was possible to add shots to improve the stack. I do not have that shot with me now to show you how the stack has improved.

Thank you for your interest.

Cheers,

Andrea

Hi, thanks for the report.

"I would like to have an option to skip the dark frame delay" er...have you checked the Options panel? :p

"Would it be possible in a future release to specifiy number of exposure for planned shots instead of having to create f.ex 100 similar exposures" ... this would be nice.. could be: add a shot and in the Planned Shots grid define how many equal shots you need... maybe in the next release.

Cheers

Hi mates!

I released the v 1.5.0 of WiFi Commander for PENTAX, in this version you can find:
1- Planned Shots: with this function you can set every shot parameter, also the AF point, and make a program of shots with an interval between each or specific date/time. Works in M / B timed / X modes.*
2- Live View enhancements: there will be a red square to indicate the focus point. If you use the LV zoom after the focus point selection you will have a zoom on the focus area.
3- Picture review enhancements: you can zoom also stored pictures.
4- LV Zoom K-70 bug: K-70 has a bug with Pentax LV zoom implementation, I made a dedicated version of this function to have a working zoom also with the K-70
5- Improved post-shot logic to speed up times
6- Improved "latest pictures taken" panels
7- In app Focus switch now reads from the in camera setting
8- Performances improvements and bugfixes

* I'm very proud of the Planned Shots feature, let me add some words about.
You have to put the camera on M or B timed or X mode, then select the exposure values, filters, WB, size, etc and when ready press the new "shot" button with a calendar inside. Now in the Planned Shots tab you will find a new Program. In the same way you can add shots with different parameters. If you want to edit a shot you can select it and press the edit button or double click the row in a white cell. To define a delay (HH:MM:SS format) between the shots or a specific date/time you have to double click the green cells.
When you set the shot parameters you can also define a specific focus area, to do this you have to enable the LiveView and click on that area of the image. Save or Edit with the new "shot" button with the calendar inside. In the Planned Shots tab you can create new Programs, move up/down shots inside the programs, export and import your Programs.... etc...

I made an "Overview and Tutorial" video on youtube:

I hope that you enjoy my efforts. The app is still free but if it is useful for your job or passion, and you can, please make a PayPal donation from my website to support the development.
Next step will be the mac porting!!!

All the best,

Andrea
