Depends when you travel. I have always come in April/May and have been able to drive straight in or book on the day before or a few hours before.

Next time I'm going to book a berth on the Doubtful sound overnight boat. I looked into it but my trip was too short this time.

Yes I can see the reasoning behind that crop suggestion. It was the same day I took this shot - about 90 minutes later than this (which I've posted before:

Conditions change very quickly, which is why I am grateful I'm not one of the sheep on the coaches from Queenstown. Next time I'm going to use the camper site at Milford Sound itself...

The converter makes the FA an A lens remember...you don't get AF once you put a teleconverter on. I have a 2 x and it makes everything rather soft.

I finally got home yesterday for the first time since April 17th. This meant two things: I got a very good welcome from the puppies and I had a lot of work getting my images into my iMac Lightoom Catalogue. About 3500 images. I will also have to back up a 5TB portable hard drive as it has a wonky connection on the USB port and keeps disconnecting without being ejected which has put it at risk of getting corrupted. I stopped adding images to it as new images weren't showing up in Lightroom so I am going to have to copy the whole drive within Lightroom.
Have been going through a few images from NZ...

I've held both the Fuji and the Hassie. Both are not great to hold. It's not about weight, but how it feels in the hand. To get even a similar feel in the hand to the Z, you have to shell out for the battery grip for the Fuji and that just leaves you with the need for spare batteries to feed the EVF. Full disclosure, I have the Sony A7R3 so do work with both OVF and EVF. I'd love Pentax to come out with something ultra wide...

OP won't have a use for the Auto focus on the FA 150 unless he upgrades to the digital or the 645N - though I agree it is a great portrait lens. It's all down to whether the OP is prepared to pay more for a f/2.8 over a f/3.5.

I was in a restaurant and heard some customers ask if there was a nightclub in Te Anau. I laughed because we were in the latest opening place which advertised food served ‘til late’. Kitchen closed at 9 kick out time was 10.30. It was a ghost town in leaving the restaurant.

Thanks. Yes NZ. Enchanting place. The Milford Road is as photogenic as the peaks of the sound and the sound itself. I find myself swearing because it’s so beautiful.

90 minutes? Did you the tour by plane? ;) it’s a good 4 hours from Queenstown. A bit more if you are in a Petrol Toyota campervan like me. Or are you meaning from the town that time forgot, Te Anau? You could do that to Milford at a pinch but never as a photographer. Aside from the obvious tourist spots like Mirror Lakes where Fiordland National Park have kindly put a sign with Mirror Lakes upside down to make the point unnecessarily obvious. Eglinton Valley is another popular coach stop but get there when it’s quiet and it’s stunning.

There were just 7 of us on the boat. Less crowded in Late April/May and all three times I have done it at this timeconditions have been good to stunning.

I’m likely to be in Australia on business again about this time next year. I’d like to see Doubtful Sound which accessible only by boat and trail.

The skipper of the boat called it a reflection probably because the colours are reversed in the secondary.

I'd love Pentax to come out with say an 18 - 35 for 645...others will care more about the size of the aperture, I'm not bothered. They can also leave our OS. I often forget to switch mine back on the my 28 -45 after it's been on a tripod...

No, usual PP process used. I deliberately underexposed for the highlights like I normally do, so have boosted the shadows somewhat. The botanic gardens are very green and lush. Perhaps in boosting the shadows some of the greens are a little richer than you're used to from me...

Now you mention it, I see what you mean. I'm not going to claim that was my aim. I deliberately shot for the highlights as I knew with the Z I could bring out the shadows with little or no pain.
