Cleaning Sensor

After having had the K20D for 11 years, I recently purchased the K3II.

During the years I have had great succes using Sensor Swabs and Eclipse cleaning fluid or later on APS-C Sensor cleaning swab kit with swabs already moist with cleaning fluid and seal-packed for cleaning the sensor in the K20D.

Now, in the manual for the K3II, the only solution for cleaning sensor, except the in-camera dust remove process, is the Pentax O-ICK1.

Is it now a NO-GO to use sensor swab cleaning for the K3II?

I use Silkypix Develoer Studio Pro 9 and have used it since version 1.
I bought it in the joint venture with the UK company and even though they split up, Silkypix allowed me to upgrade at reduced price.

I prefer using Silkypix over other RAW converters.
To me it's intuitive in a degree beyond the competition and it just gives better me.

Is there a limit for what capacity of SD cards to stuff into my K3 II?

And now that we're at it; what class and other specs are the best suited for the K3 II ?

Poll: who keeps their strap on the camera?

My strap mostly lean on my shoulder.
Once in a while I have it on my neck but I find it uncomfortable.

I would like one day to get the double strap.

On the K20D, I tend to see wear on the strap at the camera attachment.
It would have been beter with a ring/eye attachment, I think.

K20D checklist of faults or things to look out for

I would say:
One thing to look out for, no matter brand of camera, when buying used equipment is the state of the sensor.

It seems some people are using un dedicated ways of cleaning sensors.
Air compressors for instance.
Air compressors leave stains of oil on the sensor.

So what I would certainly do when buying used camera is to bring my laptop and a card reader and make some sensor inspection photos and make thorough inspections before paying up front.

Inspection after sensor cleaning?

I stopped down to f8-16 depending on lens.
And between every cleaning I had a different lens on just to make shure the lens wouldn't fool me.

Inspection after sensor cleaning?

A week ago or more I had some heavy dust issues in my K20D.
It was not able to eliminate with the build in dust removal shake function through the menu.

I spend all afternoon, with the remidies at hand, trying to solve this.
I used a brush and airball with marten hair (I think).
My magnifier for looking in was an 8X magnifier as the one used for negatives on a lightboard.
I also had had a magnifier for when repairing watches.

Since the dust issue stayed there, even though moving from one area to another on the sensor, in the end I grabbed something I should never have done, A handheld battery driven compressor.

It removed the dust but small particles of oil was blown out together with the air and they were now stuck on the sensor.

So I left my camera on the shelf and went on eBay and other places ordering Eclipse E2, Sensor Swab 2, Giottos Rocket Air Blower and some Pentax original cleaning thing working as a sticky thing to remove known spots on the sensor.

To day I got the Eclipse E2 and Sensor Swabs.
So I started cleaning sensor.
And it obviously helped.

Inspection is done by photographing a clear blue sky and go 100% on a good CRT screen.
Cleaning were done in 3 tempi with inspection in between.
Less and less spots occured on the clear blue sky photos.
Every inspection consisted of 2-3 photos of different parts of the sky without taking off the lens.
Last inspection today showed a completely spotless sky on the first shooting.
However, on second photo I found a spot on the sky that could look like dirt/oil.

My Question is:
If inspection photo #1 is spotless and inspection photo #2 have a spot, will this spot be some element on the sky, like a very unsharp bird or insect?

Or am I doing this all wrong?

Just for the design.

Please let me show the nicest design of my taste.
Buy that if the budget is high.

This is both front side and back side of same watch.
Many complications.
Calendar should go on for many years without adjustment.
However, when your children might take over, they will have to push a little button within the next 100 years.
But it will be written more specific in the user manual:

Who inspire you and why?

I am pleased to see a subject like this.

I have been letting the great photographers of all time inspire me from day one.

I also take very much advantage of all the beautiful photos uploaded on galleries on different photo fora including this great one I'm writing to at this moment.

For what i like, there won't be server space enough to go through.
It will be hard for me to limit this post but I'll give it a try.

Man Ray:

I very much admire Man Ray's ability to cross photography and other art forms.
His ability to pioneer photography of it's days.
The way he expresses feminin portraiting.

Henri Cartier-Bresson:

I get puzzled of the very moment he can frame.

Elliot Erwitt:

I like his humour.

Robert Capa:

As a war reporter, Eddie Adams and Robert Capa were the ones to capture cruelness in basic form.

John Hedgecoe:
For all his super literature on the photo subject.
He inspired me from the start to take a camera in my hand and to go in the darkroom.

Nicolas Muray:
His pictures are apparently well protected and I respect that.
His colours, his romance, portraits, his use of colour cabro processing.

Staff of national Geographic:

Phillippe Halsman:

here is the avantgarde and surrealism of photography.

Eugene Atget:

Without Atget, not many others would have been.

Chris Steele-Perkins:

I Can't seem to find photos reflecting what I like the best about him.
His freedom of the unexpected chaos in the photos.
the contrast of the everyday life.

Alexander Rodchenko:

He was a master of shadow.
In his photos I see infinity.

I use Metz 58 AF-1
For viewing Exif Data I use ExifViewer, Pentax photo Browser/laboratory 3, Corel Photo paint 10 and ACDSee 7.

Extra info viewed in the flash shot is in this case:
AWB correction B1G1
Choise of Image Tone and sharpness value.

Didn't change those in between shots.

Thank you for the pleasant comments on my photos.

Picture one of the butterfly is straight from camera without any software work.
Picture two had horizontal straighten and cropping and that's it.
Picture three has no modifications.
Picture four has horizontal straightening and cropping.

When viewing Exif Data, I use the original of any picture.

I am wrong.
I was comparing Exif from pictures taken different dates.
Now, after checking pictures taken same day as the flash picture in question, I can see same settings reflected.
I excuse my mistake.
The Camera is all new to me. Gotta get to learn it.

Edit #2:
I now found out Exif is lost when pictures are rotaded in e.g. Windows or other software with non lossless saving of JPG and that this is the explenation of my lack of Exif.

I recieved my new K20D a week ago or so.
Before that, I have been without camera for several years.

The Butterfly:
Center Weighted
AWB Auto B1G1
+0,7 EV
Natural Image Tone -1 Sharp
Flash Metz 58 AF-1 P-TTL tilted down 7
Handheld Macro
7th of June 2009

1st of June 2009

Green Straws:
Multi Segment
400 ISO
28th of May 2009

Shadow of time:
Multi Segment
100 ISO
31st of May 2009

Can someone please explain howcome so many EXIF is represented when shooting with flash and so few when not?

Critic is very welcome.

Choise of file format in K20D?
Posted By niklas

Manual states it's possible to select JPG/RAW/RAW+
Also states it's possible to make the RAW button change from either of the three to either of the three.

I my logic that would make it possible to change from RAW > JPG and further from JPG to RAW+ and then back to RAW.

But apparently I can only make the K20D change between two of three file formats dependign on what file format I choose as standard.

Am I missing something here?

Will firmware be different in different regions of the world or is there only THE ONE firmware?
