1. TAMRON 28-75 Aspherical LD XR DI SP $185 - SOLD

2. Tamron 17-50 $50 (bad DIY fix but works great)
My first lens. Bought used and worked great.

At some point its zoom started to get stuck. It's a known problem when some bolt inside gets loose. I tried to perform an DIY fix and fixed the issue. BUT after the fix - it extends to 45mm only. It worked great otherwise, and I haven't tried to fix that.

Looked at my batteries today and turned out they are 1 number apart :)

One was bought on Amazon around Oct 2015, another came from B&H in k3ii in Feb 2016

Most obvious reason could be that Ricoh sold total of 3 batteries in 4 months in US :D
Although, there is a negligible chance that it is pure coincidence :)

Huh, that was easy one for you guys :) I'll go with k3ii.

I appreciate the help, few really good points on k3ii performance and expected timeframe of it's successor.

k3/k3ii vs k5iis for sports

Hi,

I have k5iis and love it. I use it 50% for travel, 20% portrait, 30% tennis\surfing shooting. I don't use build-in flash. I'd like to have additional body for sport events like tennis tournaments to shoot with mostly Tamron 70-200 and DA*300. My options are:

1. New k3/k3ii. It's an expensive option. I'd like to go this way only if it will give me a noticeable improvement in actions shooting;
2. Any used k5ii otherwise;
3. Wait for the k3ii successor. If there is going to be a k3ii successor within 6 months, I'd like to wait for it. Any chances/rumors for that given the upcoming FF release?

Please help me to make a decision :)

How to test DA300 mm without other 300mm lens?

Got another copy. Again, after some tests inside, 70-200 looks sharper. But this time I can say they are comparable at the same aperture. Microadjustments didn't help, but outside test might get better results for DA*300. More importantly, no issues with auto focus performance towards infinity this time.

Also, only with this 300mm I've noticed that auto-focus can't focus if the starting position is minimum and the subject is far away. It just confirms focus to the camera. I need to move the focus ring to some degree and then it starts to focus correctly.

Seems like malfunction, if it's not something that is common between telefoto lenses.

I tried AF adjustments for 300mm even without checking if it is needed :) Results were worse with +/- 1-2. Thanks for the routine, though :)

How to test DA300 mm without other 300mm lens?

Hey, I've just bought a da 300mm f4 to shoot some outdoors sports next tennis/surfing season and some wildlife.
I'm trying to check my copy's quality, which is expected to be very sharp, but I don't have any other 300mm lens to compare.

Closest focal range lens I have is Tamron 70-200 f2.8. My favorite one. What I tried is I set up a test composition and shoot it with tamron at 200mm. Then I shoot it with da300mm from x1.5 longer distance to get similar composition in a viewfinder. Is that right procedure?

After all, the results were clearly on Tamron's side, it was noticeably sharper at f4-5,6 range. Even at f2.8 the Tamron was still clearly sharper than the DA 300mm at f4. Could it be explained with longer physical distance? Or it is clearly a sign of a bad copy?

Thanks!
