Old 35mm Pentax-M for Fuji mirrorless?

hi all,

I've got a Pentax K to Fuji X adapter, and I love using my old Pentax M 50mm f/1.7. I've ordered a M 28mm f/2.8 but I'm looking for an M 35mm? Do Pentax do one and can anyone give some advice on what I should be looking for? What sort of price?

Many thanks.

Best post I've ever read on these forums.

I too am sick of reading the sheer negativity and obvious envy of a product that is really pushing camera design in an innovative way. Instead, it's being rubbished across camera forums by idiots who say things like "MY THIRTY YEAR OLD NON-SONY LENSES THAT WERE NEVER DESIGNED FOR THIS WON'T WORK!", or by people who will never, ever purchase a Sony camera and make sweeping judgments and decisions on a product they know nothing about.

I'm bored of it. For me, I stay off camera forums mostly because I end up hating photography because of the obsession and fanboyism that ruins the art.

So if I took an image a day, that's over a years worth of battery?

Your post is invalid conjecture - it entirely depends on your requirements as a photographer. If you're on holiday and took 30 pictures a day, that's still over 10 days off a single charge. The battery on my EOS 7D lasts about twice as long as the NEX-7, but that's still a large number of photographs (not to mention the lack of EVF) and I never think "oh jeez, the NEX-7 battery is rubbish".

Lets get real, the battery life is perfectly fine unless you're rifling off 200+ images a day. Any self respecting photographer that does that will always carry a spare battery anyway. It is grossly unfair to tout it as "abysmal" because that's just not true.

If it's the same as the NEX7 battery, then one of those lasted a week for me in NYC.

Yeah. A week. SCREW THAT RUBBISH BATTERY LIFE.

I don't think you're getting it into your head.

For existing NEX-5 (14 MP) or NEX-6 (16 MP), then can go out and jump to full-frame *right now* and use their existing lenses whilst they decide which full-frame lenses to buy when they become available. A lot of the pain of moving to FF is the selling off disused lenses to fund the move, now you don't have to sell all your glass - you can keep one or two (perhaps the Zeiss 24 f/1.8, or the 50mm SEL f/1.8) whilst you pickup the A7r and the 24-70mm. Who knows, it's a nice option to have.

Having a crop mode is not the reason to move. Having a crop mode makes the move easier. If you don't understand that, then I don't know how else to put it.

Why is it a non-starter? They're effectively giving you a crop compatibility mode for free and the ability to use existing APS-C NEX lenses at 15 megapixels on the 7r. I don't see how that can be anything short of excellent and a welcome bonus to crop system users to make the upgrade process smooth. Keep in mind the only crop camera to give more than 15 megapixels is the NEX7.

The major advantage of the NEX platform for me is the size and weight. Going back to NEX from a DSLR is like putting down an iPad and picking up an iPhone - the functionality is the same, but you're immediately aware of how tiny the package is. It's discrete, it's lightweight, it's cost effective and it most importantly there is no compromise on image quality.

Having done travel photography with the NEX system, it makes photography fun. DSLRs are just too big / in your face for me.

You can mount E mount lenses on it including APS-C E mount lenses. The camera can then be set into a crop mode to accommodate for the reduced image circle. It makes it nice and simple for existing NEX lens owners to transition to a full-frame system.

Except for cheap E mount wide angle primes that are rather damn good.

Sigma have done good things in that space.

Canon: An undeserved status

This :).

Conjecture, surmising, subjective remarks.

"Canon's ergonomics suck!" - everyone likes their own camera ergonomics once they're used to it, and it's purely a personal preference or opinion.

Speaking as a former Canon, Pentax and Sony shooter, one BIG advantage is that the lens rental market is significantly better for Canikon shooters. Need a Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 for a week at short notice? No problem. Need a 400mm f/2.8 Pentax lens? Oh wait, they don't do one. OH WAIT, the lens rental place doesn't even stock Pentax or Sony - plenty of Canikon mount lenses! It doesn't matter how much kicking and screaming you do for the Pentax brand, they just simply do not meet the requirements of a lot of photographers. Need perspective control on your EOS 5D MK3? No problem.

The age old argument of "but the K-5 has over 14 stops of DR!!!! why are people not buying this more?!" - certainly in the landscape world, neutral density filters, manual exposure blending and even multi shot HDR close the gap very quickly for those that have the skills.

Personally, I genuinely believe Canon are not innovating like Nikon or Sony are. The Sony Exmor sensors have been proven ad nauseum to wipe the floor with Canon sensors for those that need to push shadows or exposures without sacrificing image quality. As soon as Canon wave a white flag and say "we're using Sony sensors", then the playing field is levelled again, particularly in the entry level market.

EOS 700D with a 24 Megapixel Sony Exmor sensor (like a Nikon D3200..) and access to an array of awesome lenses? That'll sell like hot cakes.

My 2p.

Nope, the Sony 16mm f/2.8 is just a rubbish lens.

The Sigma EX 19mm f/2.8 and Sigma EX 35mm f/2.8 are very good indeed on the NEX-7 and very inexpensive as well. I would expect Sony equivalents to follow soon.

What are you talking about "smearing and color shifting"? Do you own a NEX-7 and can provide examples of this? Or are you refer to the use of legacy glass not designed for digital on the NEX-7 which exhibits magenta corners?

There's so little between the cameras these days, I don't see the point in jumping to full-frame unless it's for the D800 and BIG prints - the K-5 is more than good enough for the vast majority of users and produces flawless A3 prints (I have 36" x 24" from my 14 MP K20D).

If you're trying to capture stars and wide angle milky way shots, you don't really want to go above 30 seconds at 10mm on APS-C to avoid the earths rotation from blurring things. F/2.8 gives you much better results than f/4 as it allows you to keep the ISO down for the same exposure length.

I am very, very interested in this lens, however from a very limited point of view.

I used to own a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 which was great APS-C milky way / astro photography lens due to its ultra wide angle and f/2.8 aperture. No other APS-C lens could give me this. I had a lot of issues with my first copy of the Tokina (infinity focus issues) so got it replaced under warranty. The second copy was also bad, it seemed like such a lottery but I badly wanted an APS-C f/2.8 "milky way" lens. I settled for a Canon 10-22mm which has f/3.5 at 10mm, but really wanted those extra two thirds of a stop.

This lens gives me 10mm and f/2.8 and is the perfect answer to those looking for maximum light at the widest FOV (short of owing icing to full frame). I will be purchasing one, the other Samyang primes have been proven to be brilliant for cost / performance.

(also considering a Samyang 8mm f/2.8 fisheye for wacky perspective FOV)

The OLED viewfinder is magnificent.

Live histogram and spirit level in the viewfinder, as well as accurate exposure demonstration and focus peaking? Yes please, massive step forward I think you'll find.

A full frame NEX will be an absolute hit without a doubt. The adapter community would go wild - all that old legacy glass plugged onto a compact mirrorless body with the latest Exmor sensors. I've got an NEX-7 and use my Canon glass on it, it's brilliant.
