2 pic Collage. Hwy 1, California. Had a great time doing a slow road trip with my wife from SanFran to BigSur, despite some landslide closures. No complaints about photo taking as she was awed by the landscapes enough that she was clicking away on her phone also...

Ricoh says no to USA servicing under warranty for Pentax purchased in Europe

Nikon is the same...
My neighbor moved from Switzerland, his Nikon camera conked out and they would not repair it under warranty in the U.S. I am sure this maybe different for professionals, but for an amateur like him, they did not honor the European warranty. This was a few years ago and things may have changed.

Rocky beach at North Soberanes is something I would recommend: From the turnout at mile marker 66, there are two trails, a main trail to the ocean and a smaller trail to the cliffs.Take the main trail, get down to the beach by climbing down real carefully as it can be slippery, if you are not nimble shoot from the cliff without going down to the rocky beach. Take pictures of the sea stacks especially if you have an ND filter to slow down the waves. This is also a great sunset location to shoot from the cliff without getting down:

Go to mile marker 59 for the Bixby Bridge shot or a little further for the the view from Hurricane Point with Bixby Bridge in the distance:

Go to McWay Falls at Julia Pfeiffer State Park which is by the roadside:

Got my Cotton Carrier.
-Green color is not bad, you are right, its not the ugly shade, that is online. Could not capture the exact shade in attached photos either.
-Takes a second person to help fit it correctly the first time.
-Very geeky looking; but I only plan to use it on hiking
-Seems comfortable, will have to wait till next month b4 I get to wear it on an all-day hike to test comfort.
-Planning to use it with my usual 2 camera combo for most of my hikes. K5 plus 50-135 and the other K5 with 12-24.
Some pics:

Thanks for the tip.120 dollars off a 189 dollar product! I guess I can live with the ugly green as opposed to the usual black color. Guess that's why only the green one is on sale.

I ordered mine. Plus a second adapter. Always wanted one for my hiking trips. Will have my K5 with 12-24 and another K5 with 50-135 on this and the Sony RX 100ii in my pocket. And my hands will be free to use my tripod as a hiking stick with just one leg opened up...

The DA 15 mm is SMALL, LIGHT and EASY to handhold if there are too many people around for tripod use and a fave for cars.
Of course if its sunny out you get a lot of SUN-STARS on the cars too:

Oh Sh_t!!!!! Damn you Pentax.
I had no interest in full frame. With this price now I have to find reasons not to buy it. I don't shoot video so video specs do not matter. I think Ricoh knows exactly who they are marketing to...

Poll: For those who use a 16MP Pentax as your primary camera - upgrade in 2016?

I have two K-5's. The only time I wished I had a better camera was for really low light stills shooting of my daughter's dance. Otherwise I am constantly surprised by the good results I get for my own needs. For travel light I use a sony rx100ii which is another lovely camera. I am not feeling the gear inadequacy of others but then I don't need super fast AF or long telephoto lens needs.

I tried a sony a7s for low light. Someday I might get one of those used. Otherwise no upgrade for me unless one of my cameras die!!

Lightroom Camera Calibration profiles for K-5lls

If I understand you right, you are shooting RAW/DNG and you want to open it in LR and choose the 'Bright' option. Not found a way to do that directly in LR for Pentax.

Pentax Digital Camera Utility software comes on the CD with the camera. Install on your computer. Open your RAW file with it, choose the 'Bright' profile you are wanting and save it as a TIFF file to retain max data and then open the file in Lightroom to make further edits as the pentax software itself is not fun to use.

Its a roundabout way.

Recommend any good variable ND filters?

Cokin is adequate for non-professional work. Fairly cheap but you have to buy the system-holder etc. I use these most often.

For really good fun with ND filters: a 10 stop filter is great. See this review:
"The Ultimate Guide To Neutral Density Filters" by Peter Hill | Redbubble
I have a B&W, its pretty fine except for a warm cast that can be corrected in post if needed but for landscapes sometimes its ok to leave it.

A variable ND filter maybe more useful for video. I have one that I use for my Sony rx100 -Heliopan and it works fine for video.

Sigma 10-20 or 17-50?

Maybe just the nature of really wide angle. Wider than 12 was not to my liking. There was no point [for me] if I was going to only use it starting at 12. Not sure if wider than 12 from another manufacturer would have made a difference as I have not shot with any other or in full frame.

Sigma 10-20 or 17-50?

Not sure how you would use the 10-20 for portraits but I rented this and the pentax 12-24. The 10-20 had terrible distortion between 10-12 and just did not feel good in the hands. The 12-24 is a very nice lens, has some issues with CA but I enjoyed using it and wound up buying it later. [I also have the sigma 17-50 and pentax 50-135 and these three zooms work great]

If you don't need really wide angle, you could replace the 15/35 primes with the Tamron 17-50/2.8-smaller than the 16-50, sharper, just not as silent. And they are priced nicely too.
I use the 17-50 with the pentax 50-135 and the two together takes care of most situations. My primes 15/35/70 I don't use very often.

I dropped my 50-135 about 2 years ago.

The mount did not come off but the focus ring and zoom rings would not move and it could not auto focus. And it looked bent a little. I sent it off for repair and got it back after a month.

Still works fine and its still my favorite lens of all time.

Why not an area with both mountains and sea? As the previous person said, the Big Sur area Carmel-by-the sea is just south of Monterey, there are plenty of places to stay. Highway 1 is amazing especially in spring with wildflowers galore. Here are some pics:
