Thanks fwcetus for your observations re the AF280T. For those who may have camera brands other than Pentax, the unit in Auto also works wonderfully with your camera too.

A while ago I came across a post by you, Yvon, in which you were very enthusiastic about the Pentax MX-1 and where you indicated that you would be publishing one of your e-books in that subject. I have searched but have found no such publication. Is it reasonable to assume that it did not and will not appear?

While one can argue that a statue is not architecture but rather art, a reasonable claim can be made that the plinth upon which the statue stands is architecture. The statue, the man and the dog are clearly bonuses. The statue is of Samuel de Champlain by Hamilton MacCarthy and was cast in 1915. Champlain stands holding his astrolabe (upside down) atop Nepean Point in Ottawa overlooking the Ottawa River.

From the late 1990s till about 2009 I took exclusively black and white photos with a variety of cameras. My primary instrument was a Rolleiflex twin lens reflex - the first with a Zeiss Tessar f3.5 lens which took these pictures. (The model was a Rolleiflex 3.5 MX-EVS Type 2.) The photos were recorded on Agfa APX 100 film. The negatives were scanned on an Epson Perfection V700 Photo scanner using VueScan software. The resulting .dng files were manipulated using Lightroom 6.3.
I cheerfully accept that a column drum is not necessarily a wheel - but it looks like one!
Hope you enjoy the images.

I have tried the "old" K-5 method of checking the firmware release number, i.e. hold the menu button while powering up, and my MX-1 certainly displays, "VER 1.00". This suggests to me that Pentax thought there might be the possibility of other firmware versions

Attached are three scenes taken with a Pentax MX-1.
Last week I went snowshoeing through the Mer Bleue Bog in Ottawa Canada. Mer Bleue is a 3,500-hectare conservation area which has a northern eco-system more typical of the Arctic than the Ottawa Valley. On my walk I saw a young tree still sporting last year's leaves and later a "frightening" forest monster.
As a third entry, I have included a scene taken last Fall while visiting Prince Edward Island.

You wrote, "If you are already attaching a ring with glue, I am not sure the lens is "restorable" to original with any ease."
I have been able to remove the ring quite easily and carefully scape off the glue completely.
You also made the point, "You need to be very careful with glue around lenses as the solvents or outgass img products of many adhesives attack lens coatings. For me, this is a serious risk..."
This is a very good point and one that had not occurred to me. I am happy to report that, at least with the G0rilla Glue, despite the passage of more than three years, I can detect no contamination caused by the glue.
Many thanks for your observations and suggestions.

I do not have a CAD or any sort of template for the ring. I simply measured where the ring would go and gave the inner and outer dimensions along with the required thickness of the stainless steel (plus the size of the notch) to my brother-in-law. He took it from there. He gave me the impression that it was pretty straight forward.

Hello severalsnakes,
Thanks for your suggestion. I did play with WB and know that the image chosen bears little relation to reality. (In truth it was so dark that reality would be a very dark screen!) I was really just testing the high ISO and I chose a WB setting that I liked.
I am enjoying my MX-1. If, as seems possible, Pentax is dropping the camera from its line up, this is a great pity. Those of us with the camera are the lucky few.

I had the rings custom made. I have a brother-in-law who works in a metal shop so I gave him the specifications as noted in the original post. These are: fashion from 1mm thick stainless steel. The outer diameter of the ring is 5.6cm (56mm); the inner diameter, 4.7cm (47mm). What the cost would be I can only guess - maybe $15-20? The unit price would likely drop if you had more than one manufactured. Richard

I went with the Chrome option which I like fine. (It was also the better price which also had something to do with it!)
I was interested to read in several reviews that above 800 or 1600 ISO (depending upon the review), the MX-1 was poor to useless. I admit that the high ISO photos need lots of help in post - Lightroom in my case - but I think the attached images work fine. Both shots were originally DNG images.
