I actually had a bad experience with a K7 last week here in Australia. We purchased 2 K7 bodies to replace our K10D's that we use for weddings. The first one was fine - great camera. The second one took about one and a half seconds to write a japeg file to the card. This was definitely not what I have been sue to - anyhow - long story short by shot number 13 (yes 13) the camera would not write to the card. I tried other cards (all sandisk) and nothing. I returned it to a major supplier here in Austalia and picked a new one up on the spot. He said they had never had one back which is reassuring. BTW we shot two weddings with the K7's last weekend - they are truely superb!!!!

WOW - that was wonderful. It was really moving and thankyou for posting the link. The whole thing has now got me thinking - a wonderful thing has occurred in my life recently. A bit of background - I bowl in a league with a fellow who also does my picture framing, another team mate is a printer who has recently purchased a printer that prints on canvas. For my 50th birthday this November, my wife had the attached photo printed on canvas in A1 size for me - this is probably the best photograph that I have ever taken and is what I consider my signature shot - and it was taken in May 2006!. My framer mate stretched the canvas and framed it (all my wife's doing) and while he was doing it he noticed that there was a fellow on one of the boats and that that fellow is a friend of his from years ago. He asked me if he could take a copy of the canvas to give to him to which I agreed without hesitation BUT after watching this great video I am going to go back to him with a stipulation - I want to meet this guy. I want to know HIS story and get to know HIM. Sorry if it seems that I hijacked the thread but it really has moved me.

Factory Shoot

Hi Mel,

no idea about shooting in factories but a hint about prisons (as I work in one - albeit in Australia) get there early as they may want to laboriously document every single item that you have with you - from experience this can take a considerable time.

Good luck with the shoot and I'm sure you will do great:D

I am earning most of photography income from product photography. I have very good friends who print business cards and marketing brochures and when they get images that are below standard (like mobile phone shots) they show the customer what they will get and then contact me. It is quite profitable and during one shoot for a swimming pool company I took some photos of the owners daughter who was just playing in one of the display pools. I supplied these with the pool photos and ended up getting two portrait sessions out of them.

Another good earner I find is sporting team photos. I now have two cricket clubs, a rugby league club, a netball club and a yearly bowling championship with about 20 teams involved. As well as the team shots I also offer individual shots of the players in a display folder with the club emblem on the cover which is a wonderful seller as well.

Apart from these opportunities I have 4 weddings to shoot this year for people from where I have my day job. I did my first wedding for one of the staff at a heavily reduced rate and this has reaped rewards. I have already done about 5 weddings from my workplace.

Another opportunity that I have come across is montages from parties. I recently went to a friends 50th birthday and took lots of photos, put them together as a montage, had it framed and that was my friends present. It is now in the living room and their house and I'm just waiting for more jobs.

My grandson recently got hold of my 50mm 1.4 (who didn't put it away!!!)and used it as a ball - tossed it right across the room coming to rest on a tiled floor. There is now a small mark - cosmetic only and no other damage to the lens!

Not that I am scientifically inclined but with the option of using both batteries at once (that is the one with the higher charge in it) as you can - would you not get more life from the two than from two separate batteries?? - if you know what I mean. BTW I have both batteries in all the time and shoot the 50-135 with the FGZ 560 for weddings - usually by the end of the day my elbow is cramping badly!

They are really vibrant and wonderful shots Zeek and no - I would not consider your efforts a failure at all. Your creativity really shows in the narrow DOF and your subject matter. Really nice shots mate. ;)

Yeah it can be disheartening can't it? I have put up the absolute best photo I have ever taken and it was declined and I stayed away for months like you did Kris but then thought I would put up a few which were technically as good as I can get. Give it another go mate - you just never know ;)

Yeah agree Kris - the hills themself were rather unusual in the colours they showed. Without the sunlight directly on them, they were dull but when the sun actually hit them WOW they lit up. That was my main downer with it - lack of shadows right through the shot - with an earlier sun, as you said, I reckon I would have got the shadows right through.

thanks nulla - much appreciated

thanks also Chris and thanks for the correction - there are lots of buildings around there. Only seven for that building - I can imagine the size of their offices

Shame about the national gallery as Kris said. I found that a lot on our travels and while in Broken Hill, I took several pictures of Pro Harts Rolls Royce that he painted in an Australian theme which looked really good. Upon entering the gallery I was told in a no uncertain manner that photography is NOT allowed in the gallery. When we left my wife noticed cameras outside so the receptionist had probably seen me taking the shots of the roller

Cheers Kris. The EXIF says 5:31pm

I SHOULD have gone there!!!!

This shot I took at twilight in Canberra; our national capital while visiting our eldest daughter. The blue was absolutely haunting in the photos that I took and really loved it. The building is the National Museum I am pretty sure and the waterway is Lake Burley Griffin which is right in the middle of Canberra

Here is one from a place called Wentworth in south western New South Wales. Wentworth is the junction of the two largest rivers in Australia being the Murray River and the Darling River but more importantly to me it is the home of the Perry Sand Hills which stretch for miles and miles. This shot I managed to get at about 8 in the morning after sweating on the sun coming out since sunrise. The sun only lasted for about 15 minutes but I feel it was worth the wait.

Overall Rosemary I like the original shot - it has a surreal quality to me with the in focus flower just making one think about the surrealism... I would print and hang it myself

All wonderful shots but number 1 and 4 are outstanding - vibrant colours alright! Good for you staying and taking some shots - it certainly paid off.
