Replacement Lens hood for 50mm film lens

Yes and no, on a lens with a plastic filter thread I would still be really careful. Both of us have been using metal ones for years without any problems but If you're clumsy I would recommend the rubber one.

Replacement Lens hood for 50mm film lens

I prefer the metal ones to the rubber variety for a couple of reasons. They're more durable, they're more narrow, allowing less light in and I prefer the look. You can find either for a few dollars, I'd pick up one of each and see what you like better. I use a few like this Fotga 52mm Screw Mount Standard Metal Lens Hood for Canon Nikon Pentax Sony | eBay but in 49mm for Pentax primes. You can use this length on most 28mm lenses when shooting aps-c as well. I have no relation to the seller just using it as an example, searching 52mm metal or rubber lens hood should get you results pretty much anywhere.

Nice photo but this thread is for photos of the actual cameras and lenses themselves. Have any photos of the camera and lens you used to take this?

Pentax Asahi Spotmatic vs Pentax MV

I would pass on the MV, since the ME Super isn't much more but is a much better camera. If you're looking to use m42 lenses in their native fashion, any good working spotmatic will do great. If you want to use K mount lenses get an MX for a manual experience similar to the spotmatic or an ME Super if you're looking mostly for aperture priority.

The ME Super is fairly inexpensive, reliable, has a great viewfinder and is very small and compact. Take a peek at the reviews and information on this site.

Highlight and shadow correction usage

I totally agree and I even take it a step further. On both my K-01 and my K-30 I shoot with auto HC on but I also shoot most scenes at -1/2 EV. When I develop in Lightroom my base settings include +1/2 EV getting me back to normal exposure. I've found this keeps me from blowing highlights almost all the time and the shadow detail is still there.

I don't know why you would need to use Shadow Correction at all.

I think this perception is because the K-01 first has to close it's shutter. Shoot your K-5 or K-3 in live view mode and compare.

Where did you find that? I'd love to have something like that for my K-01 that doesn't cost so much.

Same for me. I use a K-01 with either a Ricoh 28mm f/3.5 or a Hoya 24mm f/2.8. Set at around 9 feet and f/8 then have at it. If the subject is further away I just turn the lens to infinity.

Adjust "auto" tone level in Lightroom/ACR?

Same for me, I just don't use the auto setting. I have a different profile for each of my lenses to compensate for distortion mostly. You can also come up with a good baseline that works for your camera and save that as the default settings for that camera.

K-01 Grip

It's a square body with an un-ergonimic grip. People with larger hands particularly are looking for a way to make holding the camera for longer periods of time more comfortable. What is there to miss?

K-01 Grip

I was just thinking about checking in on this thread yesterday as I was hiking and holding my K-01. Count me as a buyer when you get it figured out. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a little extra grip in the front. I've got big hands and after 3-4 hours the K-01 gets awkward.

How do you carry your gear on hikes?

I use a cheap Amazon Basics photo backpack, it's light, well padded and fairly rugged for what it is. I usually have my K-01 with either the 40mm XS or my Ricoh 28mm f/3.5 in my hand while I'm walking. In my bag is a film camera and whatever lens isn't mounted. There's room left over for other hiking essentials and a packable jacket as well as a camelback. I don't use a tripod on day hikes anymore, during daytime shutter speeds are high enough to render it useless. The backpack does have straps on the side for carrying one though.

My advice is to only carry the gear you really need. I can't remember how many times I packed a bag full of gear for miles only to use one or two lenses.

Get the K-50 kit with the two zoom lenses. You'll have a complete WR outfit and can add lenses from there.

What is your source for film?

My local Fred Meyer store does film processing here in Beaverton, Oregon. It's less than $5 a roll for develop only. I scan my own negs with an Epson V500. My local Walgreens and Rite Aid also offer film processing and sales, at much higher prices though. Ask around, you might be surprised to find you can get it done locally for cheaper than sending it across the country.

52mm Flower Petal Lens Hood for Nikon D3100 D5000 D3000 | eBay

One of these should work just fine. They have a small ring that you can adjust to keep the hood aligned properly. Once you get it setup right you won't have to worry about it again.

I scale focus my Kiron 28mm f/2 all the time with the K-01. I normally don't shoot above f/8 since diffraction will start to have a visible effect on sharpness. Here's a good link for more information.

You can flip the camera into Tv mode and use the wheel to roll the shutter speed up the max of 1/180th, it only takes a second with some practice. I'm not sure of any way to force the shutter speed up in P mode.
