Good point but the KP with battery grip can use the same battery as the K3 I believe.

As shown in the photos in the article of the original post, Sigma replaced the flange in certain lenses so it will not scratch the camera body.

K-1 Playback button / function stopped working
Suddenly my K-1 playback button / function has stopped working. It worked maybe 1 of 10 tries for an hour or so when I noticed today and now I think I can not playback anymore. It takes pictures fine. Last firmware 1.4 , I use san disk extreme pro cards. I have formatted cards, tried different cards, reset, different lenses. Nothing fixes it. Anything else I can try before sending it for repair? It has failed me just I need it the most traveling overseas.

The advantage of the TC for Soccer is the extra reach because l like to take the pictures from behind the goal my team is attacking. With the extra reach I can crop less.
And if the TC can maintain the IQ even better.
Definitely OK to use in bright day light.
you can try indoor and share your pictures please.
I do not have the Tamron but in the link below you can see that the Pentax 1.4 TC did OK maintaining IQ on my DA*300 and from long distance (420mm). The last picture on my set is with the DA*60-250 zoom + 1.4TC and I can tell that it is not as good as the 60-250 without TC.
You have a 2.8 lens and my Da300 and da60-250 are F4; therefore you will have more light than in my case.
My recommendation to you is to rent the pentax 1.4 TC from lensrental.com or similar and try it out in you Tamron outdoor and indoor and share the pictures with us. Share the results. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/172-pentax-k-3/278394-sports-football-soc...00-1-4xtc.html |

Hello, I am new posting to the forum, although I have been enjoying reading.
I read some threads discussing K-3 AF Tracking,
I am not a pro, just enjoy photography as hobby
Here is a sequence of shots i took for your K-3 AF tracking analysis. How do you think the K-3 DA*60-250 combo did on this case?
You can see the pics here (i hope i did this ok for you all to see): K3 DA* 60-250 AF Tracking - a set on Flickr
Event = F1 2013 US Grand Prix (cars running at over 200 Km/hr. )
Camera was set with recommend settings as per K-3 in-depth review on this forum.
Additional settings:
Exposure mode = P
Program LIne = Sports icon
AF-C
Focus Priority
SEL-L (Select center point and have expanded zone of 27 points)
RAW
High - Continuous Shooting.
Method: I focused on road near were car is going to show up, then as soon as car shows focus I focus again with center point on car itself, then shot non-stop following the car until is gone. I did not have any problem of AF speed with this lens in this case (i do not know about other sports yet, I will try soccer on the weekend). Buffer and shots per second on this camera is great, i was able to shot all the sequence non-stop in RAW.

I have improved my own settigns to shot football soccer players running as follows:
TAV and Iso set for 1/1000 at least
Trying to fill all frame with player on target (get closer)
AFC
Center point spot AF only
First frame AF C - Focus Priority
Action AF C Cont - Focus Priority
Hold AF Status - 3 medium
And i get practically all frames in focus but lower fps.
I can shot higher fps with Action AF C Cont - Set to auto or release priority, but i will get some frames out of focus if the players are making erratic movements or if it is crowded and the overlap each other in the action movement.
So think it depends on the type of action movement and i also would think that it will be faster if my lens would faster like 2.8?

What i understand is:
There is no FF in 2015, although this might be a year that helps them decide
The new lenses will be still on development in 2015
Any new lens should continue to be aligned to K mount, there is no macro for Q at this time
There are performance improvements that still would like to do, or need to do, which are higher priority over FF
Too bad, i think they do not feel ready to be able to compete with either a lower cost high performance FF better than Nikon D750 or with something like the Sony FF mirrorless but with with lower cost and better performance. I was hoping they would have the technology and compete in 2015 but it looks like they do not have it or they are not willing to risk in 2015. I think they will be missing the decisive opprtunity if they actually have the technology but they do not execute in 2015.

And if you switch frequently between horizontal to vertical it is very comfortable to hold and fast to change. Example when i shot my sons Youth Soccer, and i am using a long lens with a ring on a monopod, i switch frequently depnding on the action. Since i have the grip for my K-3 i am enyoing the camera more. Even if i use a smaller lens without a ring like the 16-50, it is just easier to hold the camera on a more natural position. Weight has not being a issue since in this case i carry the K-3 on my black rapid shoulder strap. I waited a lot to buy the grip at a good price since it is not a must, but after i have it i enjoy it and use it a lot.
However, if i carry my K-30 with a 18-135 (light weight WR -- walk in the rain/travel light combo) i do not miss a grip because small size and low weight is the advantage of the K-30. Therefore i guess depends on the camera, lens, and how you use it.

A few shots (cropped) of Football Soccer Game shot with K-3 + DA*300 + 1.ax HD TC
Lens slow to focus for first time, but after it locks in, the K-3 did OK tracking (i have not uploaded the sequences.)
Custom Settings for tracking at high FPS - very few misses.
16-3
17-3
18-3
Pics here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/109041703@N02/sets/72157648795605688/
Shots taken from the of the field looking a the opposite half of the field and goal.
What do you think about the sharpness and focus i got on these pics with this combination of camera+lens+TC? Suggestions?
