Hey Dale, just getting back on here. If you want to denoise the background only. I use Photoshop Elements 8.
Also it does not strip the EXIF file. I personally like to see the files on photos i really like.
Just me.
If you have any questions PM me and i will talk you thru it. Or whatever.. :)

I have two sigma lenses and they are both pretty good. One needed calibrating but other than that ok.
I am hyped about the super zooms. Only because of the new design. If they redesign the 300 and 500mm primes. Wow.... with WS, OS. HSM and new optical design for Pentax... My god I would be tripping over myself trying to find the funds.... :)
It's comming I think in the next few years.

Nice shot of the gull. I have a few shot's with the 500 and 2.0x sigma t.c. in very bright light it actually Auto focuses. And i am really surprised at the quality. Here is a link to one photo. It is a very long shot. Caspian Tern | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
You know I haven't thought of trying it with the K-5. The photos I shot were with the K-x.
I have herd good things about the 250-600 lens. There is another guy here with one that really is good. But I have to admit. I do not even own a Pentax lens. other than 2 kit lenses. So i am not in any means an expert on Pentax lenses. If i am lucky one day Pentax will come back with some quality primes above 300mm at f4...... I hope... :)
What is the largest f stop for the 250-600 lens. You have it as f6.3 with a 2.0x is that double? F 12.6

Just killing time shooting a couple of birds this morning. And thought I would see if the K-5 could take a good pic at 3200 ISO. Actually these are good enough for the internet only. But I was surprised at the performance of the K-5 again!
These two shots were both at 700mm wide open, 500 + 1.4 t.c. F6.3 ISO 3200
I denoised the background only. The birds are not denoised.
Next time i may try stopping down a stop and see if I can get more detail.
But the birds loose a lot of detail when uploading to this site.

I am really trying to curb my remarks about the k-7. I have one, and the k-20 and the k-x.
My personal views on the k-7.
This is the way I explain it to people who ask me. Only my opionion guys.
You see a Corvet in the show room, So you buy it. What a thrill. You drive it for a while and think this thing is reall running bad. You pop the hood and find a VW engine in it. The k-7
You go out and buy a Volkswagon, and damn the thing is running like a spotted ape. You pop the hood and find the dealer put in the Corvet engine in it. The K-x
I really think the Pentax is going to change with the next round of DSLR's. I personally really like the design and the in body IS. I think it is an award winning combo. Now they just need to fix the sensor. After that Pentax will have the respect it deserves. In the prosummer market. The K-x is already the best starter DSLR on the market.
I hope they also expand to the pro level. Then it is a shoe in for pentax. In my opionion only. It is the small persentage of pro's and semi pros who give the products like Canon and Nikon such a good name, and very good advertising for them.
My fingers are crossed.....

I read you are from Singapore. In the next few months i plan on driving down from Thailand. Now in Chiang Mai. If there are pentax users there then i guess there are shops????? If so let me know where.
I am birding in the north now but am working my way down to Malayasa then Singapore. I am not a huge fan of Pentax anymore but i have a lot of glass and it is very good. I've got my fingers crossed about the new models comming. And i should be in the area after the release.
Thanks, Gary

What a mess Pentax has put themselfs in. It is a real shame. I personally think they are pretty much out of the running now. Especially with the K-7. An award winning body with a substandard sensor. Some one at Pentax should be shot. But I think the last post sums it up about Pentax future.
To bad.

I have been in S.E. Asia for the past two years and I can tell you I have never seen a Pentax. Not only that but I shoot birds here. Pentax and Sigma is a fairly good combo. Cheaper than the glass here for nikon and canon, it is thru the roof. But everyone hates Pentax. I have to agree to some extent. Pentax does not make a camera that is anywhere near there prosumer cameras. The K-7 is a joke for my work and the k-x is great but the QC is a joke. Fast glass doesn't work on most of the K-x until you get it calibrated. Too bad. But it is the truth. I am cheap but Pentax in many places is really a joke and the people know it. Also Canon and Nikon have outlets that cater to the locals and have repair centers locally. Where Pentax has nothing. It is strickly which is better and offers the best customer service. Pentax has none and Canon and Nilon have great Customer service. Even tho the prices are tripple what a Pentax costs.
Luckaly i have had no problems, excet calibration problems. With a simple calibration it has to go back to Japan for service and takes forever. You have to deal with customs and paperwork. Really not worth it. Again the locals know it.

My thoughts on up comming Pentax DSLR cameras is as follows.
If it can be F___ ed up Pentax will do it.
I think they should release the super K-7. That will be outdone by the cheapest DSLR Pentax makes. That will be great.
Can't wait i am so excited???

These are my thoughts. As of today. After shooting with the K-x and with the K-7 for a while now.
The K-7 is a hands down winner in build quality. The auto focus is fast and the motor for the screw focus seems much better. I personally am a fan of the screw focus. The options are very nice, and the buttons are very nicely laid out. And all functions make for a camera that can change IS0 and all setting verrrrrry fast. Which is important to me. I change setting for every shot and most of the time i have to change in the middle of a shot. And the K-7 makes this very easy.
The K-x is no slouch. Auto focus is good. Do I perfer the K-x to the K-7 ???
For me the IQ is just superior in every way (For wildlife) with the K-x. I will tell you I don't shoot any pictures except wildlife. I know nothing about any other photography.
And normally all photos are a 100% crop.
But for me only, I have to say the K-x has a lead in IQ.

Adam, Good point. But in both cameras, I completly turned off the noise supression control. In my line of photography it is best to process as it comes out of the camera raw. If any post processing is to be made.
So both cameras were shot with sensors spitting out the original image. No processing.
Nice catch Rawr. Is that an oriental robin?

I own the K-7 and the Kx. As a wildlife shooter. I can tell you i very rarely use the K-7. The Kx produces the nicest photos and handles noise at a level you need no post processing. I have many examples.
The K20 is also better suited for this kind of work. I process all RAW with no noise supression in body. That is because i want DETAIL. Pentax really got this backwards. They need the Kx sensor in the k-7 body. If they would of done that the Kx and the K-7 would of been a hugggggge sucess finacially. But as it is the K-7 is a prosummer body with a junk sensor. While the Kx is a basic camera that has a vastly superior sensor.
Many on the board parise the K-7. If you want detail at high IS0 use the K-x. I personally think the K-7 is pretty much junk for any sports or wildlife shooting.
I have high hopes for the next DSLR from Pentax. But this time I will wait and go over the test results before i buy. This is just lunacy in management.
Management is deffinately out to lunch on this one.
Now I can get some high noise pics with the K-7 with proper exposure and proper lighting. But wildlife doesn't stop to pose for you. And the Kx just produces day in and day out. It is amazing.

I hope the sensor and AF will improve that is my only wish.
One guy hit it on the head I think. And i will testify to it also. I bought the K-7 because it was cheap, and a good deal. I bought two pieces of fast glass from Sigma. I have bitched and moaned, but I still will not switch. I do not make my living from photo work and i enjoy the extra work to make things work. And I am a cheap sob. :)
Keep up the good work Pentax.

I personally quit testing my lens. It can show focus problems almost every time i test. When i leave it alone and just shoot I seem to be happy with the results. That is what counts.
I try not to think about it and if the lens is producing then i leave it alone. I have had one lens that was front focusing and i screwed with it for ever. It is very frustrating. But even at that. If you send it in they will calibrate it to your camera.
Post some pics and let us see your problem.

I am an wantabe bird photographer. :)
Much easier said than done.
I shoot with a K-7and 3rd party glass.
I am hoping the next generation of Pentax cameras are better at noise. I also have the Kx. It is in my opion better suited for this kind of work. But the features of the K-7 are better. But I am a die hard Pentax fan. And I think the K-7 proves what they can do. I think a scaled down version of the K-7 would be great 12MP with a noise threshold of the Kx.

I'll use it and not bitch.. I think it should be fixed but i am getting very good pics with the camera on my tripod. And if i take it off i pump up the shutter speed. Birds require rather high shutter speed and i really do not have that much problem. It just gripes me that the K-7 really gives the ability to change all other setting to my liking but not this one.
I just got a message from Pentax. I am going to ask them about it.
I will end here.
Thanks for all input.
