What's so special about the 77 limited?

I used to crave FA 77, then got a good deal on DA 70. Had it for five years but never really warmed up to it. Eventually bought CZJ Pancolar 80/1.8 which wide open seemed sharper and overall better than DA 70. In the end, I found a great bargain on FA 77 and bought it, figuring, I can always sell it with minimal loss, Immediately, I saw the magic. Every second image looked beautiful on the camera's screen. Tried to shoot side by side with DA 70 but in a controlled scene I couldn't see much difference. Still, FA 77 gives me consistently more pleasing images than DA 70 ever did, which doesn't mean DA 70 is a bad lens, just not really for me.

Mamiya 80mm f1.9 Sekor C/N

Have you considered Samyang/Bower/Rokinon 85/1.4? Unlike the Mamiya, it has A contacts, so it will be much more convenient and won't blow your budget the way FA 77 would. alternatively, you can consider something like SMC Takumar 105, which also renders very nicely and is not that different from 80 on FF.

Will you leave APS-C for the K1?

I won't. When I get the K-1, I will gift my K-5 to a friend and keep the Fuji X-T10 as the compact walkaround body. Those two will be a perfect match. I will, however wait a little with the K-1. 1st, need to wait for a prism focusing screen to become available. 2nd, will wait till all the kinks are worked out (no need for oil on sensor and other stuff)

Carl Zeiss 50mm 2.8

It's actually an interesting lens. Although not as sharp as its 1.8 east german relatives (CZJ Pancolar and Pentacon/Meyer Orestor), it has quite a signature. I especially like to use it during the gloomy winter days. Its rendering seems to give it something extra.

Nikon D5 and D500

And when I thought DSLRs cannot really surprise anymore, along came Nikon. The D500? I just want to point out two things - 100% coverage viewfinder with 1.0x magnification? That is just crazy and I hope Pentax follows with this trend soon. Also - Auto AF fine tune? If they got the implementation right, should be revolutionary. Basically what I do manually (switch to live view, compare focus, adjust AF fine tune), so if they implement it right and have enough memory slots for many lenses to be tuned (especially zooms should have at least several positions for tuning).

My first Limited ...

My first Limiteds were a used 21 and 70. Never really warmed up to the 70 (especially seeing the performance of Pancolar 80 wide open) but DA 21 is so convenient and gave me many good pictures. Lately, I added the 77 and its reputation is well deserved, love it to bits.

Fuji X-T10?

I bought the X-T10 with 18-55 recently and it does precisely what I want it to do. It is a small combo I can put in a very small bag, has a very good kit lens, so that I don't need to change lenses and it can go anywhere with me (which it does). My trusty K-5 still serves me more than well and is my main body along with my lens collection (getting ready for FF). After I get the FF, the X-T10 will be even more relevant as a secondary body.

For the future, I plan to buy the Zhongyi Canon EF speedbooster, so that I can use Pentax, Olympus and Contax/Yashica lenses on it with the field of view equivalent to FF on it.

Why I decided for it? Very good EVF, decent tactile interface and above all very good kit lens with above average aperture (2.8-4), also wifi and very good jpeg engine.

That said, Pentax, to me, is still unsurpassed as to the ergonomy of controls.

If you decide to get rid of the Tamron, let me know and we can see if we can make a good deal, mine had sticky blade also, resolved by changing the adaptall bayonet (my KA was faulty)

Hi, I do not know Pentax M-120 but I can tell you this. If you get an adaptall KA adapter, the operation with your Tamron will be much more pleasant than the M will ever be. Also, as a fellow owner of Tamron 105/2.5, I must say, I find its rendering rather unique (probably one of the best transitions between sharp and bokeh) and would get another one just as a backup.

FA 77/1.8 vs HD DA 70/2.4

I currently own both. About seven years ago, I found a great deal for DA 70 and DA 21, so even though I really wanted the FA 77, I bought those two instead. And though I liked the DA70, it never got much use. This got even worse as I obtained Pancolar 80 and found it was sharper at F/1.8 than DA70 at F/2.4. Then I would usually stay with the Pancolar which I really loved at the time.

Now, living in Asia, I was able to score the venerable FA77 at what I consider a very good price. Unfortunately, there was backfocus with my K-5, so after adjusting through the debug menu, I can say WOW. This lens just makes pictures pretty, no matter what subject matter. Then I tried shooting the same scene with both at same aperture and couldn't distinguish between them. And yet, I keep reaching for the FA all the time instead of the DA or even my trusted Pancolar and I keep marvelling at what it can do even just looking at the display.

Anyway, what I kinda disliked about DA70 - bokeh fringing was somehow not nice, and the rendering of greens. Also, never really amazed me by sharpness. I mean, it wasn't soft but it somehow felt lacking.

K-S2 manual focusing screen

Hi, thinking of obtaining the KS-2 but being a MF lens user, I tend to install manual focusing screen first. Yet, none are to be found. Anyone has a good source? Or are K-S2 screens same as K50, K-3 or K-5? Thanks in advance.

When will Pentax release a fast wide angle lens?

I went through the reviews and it seems, most people are rather taken with the lens. The biggest gripe being that it is larger and heavier. Also, the moustache distortion can be a bit of concern to some. Otherwise, from my use, I must say a very good lens.

I must disagree, FA 35/2 is great wide open but the AF needs to be really fine tuned. Try it with contrast focusing in liveview.

Why I'm staying with Pentax

Thanks for the answer. My goal basically was to get a A7x class camera to mount almost any glass that covers FF circle. More of a tinkering camera. I don't really have a need to upgrade but was considering it because these cameras were tempting and for the first time made me stop and think switching brands. As it stands now, I can still wait, for a better offering until my trusty K-5 fails me.

I do have some rangefinder glass, but not much and not wa, just some Jupiters 8 and similar glass, but if I got the A7, I would expect to get a lot more for the smaller size of those lenses. As for the EVF, I had all three A7 types in my hands and tested the EVF and find it great. Don't get me wrong, I love the camera and it is probably the strongest contender to make me contemplate switching brands in long time but if I were to use it for manual glass and much glass would exhibit colour shifts in the corners, and I would get a 11bit raw instead of the 14 bit....then I wouldn't be able to justify spending money on the A7. I can actually get the A7 body in Malaysia for something like 1130 USD but maybe after some firmware upgrade or the next generation of A7
