Will you leave APS-C for the K1?

I am drooling at K-1 because if I can get this at 8 mm in APSC (~12mm in FF).

The featured picture on 10 Reasons to go on a date with a Trekker ! -

Then it makes me wonder what I would be getting at 8mm in full frame. Oh just the possibilities of it make me dance :)

The big deal breaker though is its weight. At 1010g including batteries it is heavier than even a Nikon 810E (980g).

That makes me a fence sitter right now.

I am also wondering how much better is its astrotracer, timelapse and autofocus implementation vs the k3ii. It would have to be significant given the weight of it for an outdoor photographer like me.

I am most excited about the Astro tracer feature in this camera. Its clever implementation using sensor shift and GPS would remove the star trails and allow for longer exposures.

Wide angle lenses typically handle this issue better. Now, with the full frame capability, my widest lenses on Pentax would be 1.5 times wider.

Plus the higher ISO capabilities of this camera would remove the graininess from my pictures. Like the one featured here that keeps annoying me. A click is worth a billion stars … | Road Trips, Adventures, Homestays and More
Overall for Astrophotography and for its price it seems to be a steal.

PK+MM GIVEAWAY ENTRY
Growing up in India, my dad's Espio first hooked me to Pentax and so when I found myself in B&H New York I snapped up a K-x and bought a 2nd hand FA 31mm LTD from a forum member. It felt so great but my honeymoon was short-lived when in Jan 2012 it came apart from what the Pentax service center in Singapore later termed as 'could' be vibrations. Living in India, where there is no Pentax distributor, sales or support, I had to reach out to folks on this forum, to Pentax service centers in countries where my friend were traveling to, trying DIY repairs and finally after an ordeal of 2 years I got my repaired lens back in Jan 14 enabled by a network of wonderful friends and in spite of Pentax's support and distribution networks and after a repair bill totaling well over half its cost.

In an alternative universe imagine this scenario with PK+MM. I shrug off my lens as a lemon and spend the repair dollars on a brand new alternate mount lens and I get back 2 years of my photography life back. And yes it also means I can talk up people to at least try Pentax in India.

Sigma 8-16mm vs Pentax 12-24: Which one to keep

Thanks guys for helping me decide. I am going to keep the Sigma 8-16. I am having too much fun with 8mm. And those extra 4mm do make a lot of difference. Since I am going to be shooting outdoor in daylight, the aperture issue is a non issue. I can also live without filters.

Can anyone see any issues with my copy of the lens from the pictures above? If it is decentered, sharpness issues, corner to corner, or anything else?

Thanks in advance

Sigma 8-16mm vs Pentax 12-24: Which one to keep

Took both the lenses for a spin today. Some pictures to show what the 8mm looks like. Have not really been able to really nail the perspective yet. But the pictures would show what the lens is capable of. The last 2 show the difference between 8mm on the Sigma and 12mm on the DA.

Hypocorism what you say about the 8-16 is quite true. I had tried the sigma 10-20 in the store and found it to be no match for the 8-16.

Piesforyoul, what you say about the tighter 24mm range is quite apt too. With the DA I find myself using it a lot at 12mm or 24mm. And when I use it at 24mm and later look at the pictures I sometimes wish I had used a longer focal length and not been lazy about changing the lenses. With Sigma I am playing a lot with the 8mm and not using the 16mm that much.

Thanks for all the advice. The thing about 8mm is that it is addictive. I never thought I needed it but now that I have it I think I will miss it.

What aleon has mentioned is significant in my opinion because I might be able to add the 12-35 if and when it comes and if I can afford it. The 12-24 would then be rendered useless. Do we have any idea when it is expected?

Sigma 8-16mm vs Pentax 12-24: Which one to keep

Hi Guys,

I got a Sigma 8-16 and Pentax 12-24 from B&H recently for Landscape photography. I use k-x. I am going to return the one that I like less. In the last week that I have used the lenses. I find both very likeable so I am confused.

I do not care abt CA, etc on both.

I am enjoying the perspective of the 8mm but its reach is less than my kit lens and I find that I have to keep changing to the kit lens for a lot of pictures. The DA is great in this regard with some overlap with the kit lens but it cannot do 8-12mm. The constant f4 is also a big plus but I am not sure if it would make that much of a difference outdoors. If the DA was waterproof I would have surely kept it.

The build is equally great on both, though I find the lens cap and hood on the DA a bit annoying to use. The Sigma also comes with a great case.

I am not too experienced but to me both look very sharp. Now my question is what else should I keep in mind when choosing between the two. IF any of you have faced similar dilemmas please let me know what made you choose one over the other?

K-X Purple color in the middle of the pictures! Help

Hi I just bought a Pentax K-X and took some random pictures. In a couple of pics this purple color has come from nowhere. While I do understand it is because of the direct sunlight I wanted to know the following

1. How normal is this for any camera? Is is this a problem with my camera or lenses? If it is I can get my camera returned or exchanged for another one in the next 10 days so this is of particular interest to me.

2. How to avoid it?

3. How to process this so that it can be removed?

4. Any other suggestions would be welcome too
