FF TC - full frame teleconverter

Not very well... it vignettes beyond any recoverable level. It is most certainly a crop design, though optically superb.

If you're using it to extend range, the fact that you need to crop doesn't really matter so much. It is definitely not any good for wide angle...
[I've used it with DFA 150-450, DA*200, DA*300 and Sigma DC 10-20. All the teles are FF capable designs, but vignette. I tried the Sigma 10-20 at the request of a forum user - that proved that it doesn't work; I would use the DFA 15-30 normally.]

I'll certainly be in the market for a DFA converter, assuming it matches the optical performance of the DA 1.4.

Are you tempted to go FF? The K-1/KP ergonomics are very similar, but the K-1 is a better fit to my hands. The KP is better for telephoto work due to pixel density. The K-1 really rocks for landscape/astro.:)

How accurate is the electronic level?

My K-5 electronic level was far from, er, level.

My K-1 is pretty well spot on.

To check a level in the camera (or any other level for that matter), first find a smooth level surface and check that the reading of level is the same in all directions. ie rotate it to point 90 degrees different for each reading. :)

How about laptops? They tend to get replaced less regularly.

And whilst there are faster Wi-Fi options, they all require multiple antennae to get the highest speeds: something that is not really ideal on a camera. Sony α7iii has 'only' 2.4GHz 802.11n, though the 3500 α7R IV does have dual standard 802.11n and 802.11ac 2.4/5GHz. A more direct comparison: Nikon D500 has only 802.11g.

While 'we' all want the fastest and greatest at any cost, I'm happy with some sensible compromises on the Wi-Fi. I don't expect compromises with image quality or ergonomics.

Can't recall seeing an IP rating for my K-1...

Reducing the thinking to basics, if my K-1 has no lens attached and no blanking cap - how WR is it?

Same with the GR - if the body was sealed against dust, what about the dust getting through the lens to the sensor? It's the whole item that has to be considered for protection.

Anyway - all a bit off thread... ;)

Wi-Fi 802.11n can at least provide 72Mbps transfers - provided all other system parts can keep up. K1 DNG files are generally 40-50MB - so around 7 secs to transfer each RAW image. Theoretically 600Mbps could be achieved using 802.11n, so maybe 1 sec/image.

Using the latest, fastest Wi-Fi 802.11ac standard would restrict compatibility, as it is only available using 5GHz and thus is less widely supported. Using 802.11n on 2.4GHz gives universal access and few downsides.

If you had a lot of images to transfer, putting the card into a reader (or using USB cable) gets you 312MB/s... ...which is at least 4 times faster than the fastest real-world speeds you could possibly achieve using the very latest Wi-Fi. (Assuming the SD card could really work that fast)

USB C with PD, Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4 all sounds like a good progression from the K-1 and previous APS-C cameras. I'm looking forward to it! :)

The point was that you can have WR and RE, contrary to the position that I quoted. And the GR lens mount is buried in the body - there's no mirror to hit. I'm fairly sure that the engineers at Ricoh could find a way of making a WR version of the GR, given time and money. Though I'm happy if they wait until after the Knew and K1next are out...

Pretty sure it is at the micro-lens level that on-sensor PDAF is achieved. Same silicon and Ricoh spec'd micro-lens would tick the 'new' and 'designed for' descriptions. :)

Do you mean the focal plane mark? (Circle with vertical line) K1 and KP have one in same place, K5 had it on the top plate outside the LCD.

Where there are wear marks - strap clip and edge near tripod mount, the 'aluminium' has a rather brassy colour... :p

Looking forward to more specs, but the manager did say everything is new and it has the latest sensor. Public Sony site has IMX571 as latest APS-C, but there may be newer that isn't in the public view.

Nice that the SD card order has been reversed: in my K-1 the #1 slot is at the back and more difficult to access. Not sure if I have a preference for black or silver, but some some will care.

"OK HAL, I want to take a photo"
"Sorry Dave, I can't let you do that"

'Artificial Intelligence' has emphasis on the 'Artificial' and a miss on the 'Intelligence'. Don't think that's what is hinted at in the video. Better look elsewhere...

Bye! :)

DFA 85mm f/1.4 Now on Ricoh's Website

Norm, that's surely a (silicon) hardware limitation of the 36MP sensor. Pretty sure Nikon D800 had a similar rate. If you shoot in crop on the K1, the rate goes up; so the mirror can move faster.

The expected sensor for the KNEW has a far faster read rate. Also it can be assumed that the processor will be a lot faster, if they've leveraged the GRiii system development.

I hope (and fully expect) that the KNEW will exceed the K-3 FPS, with the added benefit of getting more of the burst in focus.

Now, back to the lens...

I wonder if adding in-lens stabilization is an admission that for good AF on long lens, it is a requirement? In other words, the AF is doomed to fail if the image is bouncing around too much. Olympus added in-lens stabilization to their 300mm, (which has very good reputation and numerous images on the WWW to prove its capability) despite having good IBIS in their cameras.

If that is the case, maybe a new long prime with SR will hit the market to complement the KNEW ??? A 400/4 would be awesome :)

Pentaxians aren't wrong: HD Pentax-D FA* 50mm F1.4 SDM AW Reviews - D FA Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database It's noted on the second review in July 2018. (by me) ;)

What DPR are guilty of is biased comparison, when lenses such as the Sigma Art also have CA at F1.4, but aren't pilloried for it in the same way.

I think there are some similarities between the Otus and Pentax... both have concave front elements. However, Pentax is cheaper, has autofocus and fits my camera. :)
