It's the Call of the 2DMD...do it!

I like to shoot with narrow DOF and isolate subjects, that is the reason why I like fast lenses, but yes for street a LX with M50mm f1.4 or a Praktica B with Pancolar 1.4 is better for my back.

I have no idea, I think they just added the sticker, made the commemorative strap and cap and that was it. Mina came with an A 50mm 1.7 but the 1.4 is so much better.

The serial number of my camera is 1344287 if it's of interest.

I assume you didn't do street photography with the F-1 old and the motordrive, for that application I usually use the Fujica as it's quite compact, or the K2DMD which is bid but no so big...however this is my 1.2 club.

In order: Godzilla, F-1 New with FD50mm 1.2, Canon 7s with 50mm f1.2, K2DMD with the K50mm 1.2, and finally the Fujica AX5 with Fujinon 50mm f1.2

I also have an A-1, the body weights less than the FD55mm f1.2...I already consider the LX unbalanced with the K50mm f1.2 and I prefer to use that lens with my K2DMD....however this lens is a mostrousity, holding it feels like holding a big ball of glass, I have other three 1.2s but they have half its size, and the F-1n might weight less than the F2 but definitely feels bigger, it's definitely the King of the 70s pro-SLRs.

A little underexposed but Ferrania P30 is tricky in full light.

Nikon F2A, Nikkor 85mm f1.8 and a orange filter.

Returned home I decided to load Godzilla, aka my Canon F-1n, and go out for a street shot. With 1.5 kg with the FD55mm f1.2 after 4 km my back is hurting.

IMO the SPF is the best M42 camer ever made (even if the Fujica ST705W is a strong contender), I have three of them, including an Honeywell that came with box and documents, along with two Tak 1.4...yes they are yellow but I don't find it disturbing at all, with color they give a pleasant "warming" effect that you usually get with a cloudy filter.

Again, I rate it poorly and I am saying I am not going to use this film anymore, or I will try to find a lab (not Ilfordlab) who can make a better work.

This is an example of good shot for me and it comes from another thread:

Again, this film was developed and scanned by Ilforlab, which is the same people that makes the film. If you guys are telling me the problem is my camera, exposure or generally speaking me being a bad photographer feel free to do that, with any other film I tried with the same camera I didn't get these results.

M42 SLR Cousin: Revue ML/Praktica MTL5B

I have a MTL50, the last camera of this range...like the 5 but with LEDs.

The feeling is quite rough and the viewer is a little dim, but I like the fast loader and the lance inside the finder that informs you have to rewind for shooting. It was interesting because the spacing is so narrow I could get 39 exposures on a 36 mm film.

Later I moved away from that particular camera because I "discovered" the high range Prakticas, in particular the VLC3 with electric lenses that allows open metering (solving the issue of the dark viewfinder) and especially the B series that besides being quite similar in philosophy to the Pentax LX has some of the best lenses I have ever tried.

However this is MTL50 and these are some of the pictures it takes.

The development and scan was made by Ilfordlab and I assume they know how to develop their own film.

All the shots from this roll are more or less grainy, this is another example.

Nikon F2A, Nokton 58mm f1.4, Delta 100, shot at 1/30 and f1.4:

I was surprised to see the level of grain in Delta 100, to be honest the 400 looks smoother.

Again, I think they were viewed as an investment because those cameras from the 70s (Nikkormat, FTB, Minolta Srt, Spotmatic and K) after almost 50 years are still working as this board proves it.

Cameras from the 90s...not so much. Even the difference in building quality between the FTb and the Minolta 7000 is huge, my friend when he shoots prefers the Canon due to its "solid" feel.

I am lucky to be born in a country where education was still affordable, actually the government gave me a small grant (few thousands of euros per year) to help my family as I was a very good student. But yes people with my background in the US or the UK don't get a degree or they are chocked by those loans until they retire.

I think the main difference today is the cost of renting, in certain cases that "eats out" half of the salary of a new graduate. Cell phones, DVDs and videogames are marginal but thinking out renting an apartment for $300 today in a great city is simply a pipedream.

As a matter of fact now that I recall among all the parents of my schoolmates in the early 80s the only father who had a "high range" Japanese SLR was a wealthy merchant who has a Canon FTb that he bought in the early 70s when he got successful in his business. Simple chromed body and FD50mm f1.8, nothing too fancy...then in 1986 or so he purchased the first "working" AF camera, a Minolta 7000, however he kept the old Canon and still now his son has both cameras in perfectly working conditions.

I think those who bought them consider it an investment as unlike moden digital ones they didn't come obsolete and were supposed to last for decades.

Mmm no, in standard WLTP or the old NEDC cycles manual transmissions perform better than auto, for the simple reason the efficiency of a manual transmission is about 95% while an auto if gets 60% is very well designed. Also, without auto transmission a car is much simpler and lighter, therefore the fuel economy and emissions are better.

Most conventional cars in Europe still have manual gearboxes, the problem is that you can't make a manual hybrid therefore as that is the direction of the market manual transmissions are doomed. Again, not a problem of cycles or anything like that.

However, this is the LR Wolf proto as requested in another thread.

At that time I am pretty sure Pentax SMC was the most advanced coating available on the market and of course the Spotmatic was the first TTL camera to reach the market therefore they were boasting it.
