I don't suppose the visibility of the camera is of great importance when hanging off a honking great ship.

[New video Oct 27] New information about upcoming APS-C flagship model

First thing I did when I got it was update to 4.0. I'm sure I will enjoy using the X-T3 when I am more used to it. I certainly like the three way tilting screen, which I wish all cameras had (I hate "flippy" screens, so beloved of YouTube Vloggers). My last camera with "traditional" dials (not counting the Df, which operated more like a normal DSLR) was the MZ-5, which I liked a lot, but not as much as the Z-1p, which I consider the best SLR Pentax ever made (YMMV).

That's a good question. As I already have a K-3 II and a K-1, I wouldn't gain very much by getting a K-P (at least, in my mind). Obviously the X-T3 is mirrorless, with the concomitant advantages and disadvantages that brings. I used to have a Nikon Df and loved that, so I thought the Fuji would similarly endear itself to me. I am a bit of a gear head, and in the past have used Canon and Nikon DSLRs, along with quite an extensive micro four-thirds system. I currently use Nikon Z for mirrorless and Pentax for DSLR, as I prefer OVFs, but don't mind EVFs either. So, I wanted to try Fuji to see what all the fuss was about (FOMO, I guess). The X-T3 is a nice camera and I can see why people love it, but it doesn't pluck at my heartstrings like a Pentax. I suppose I might grow to like the Fuji as with an adaptor, it can use all my lovely Limited lenses and has some features my Pentaxes don't have, like eye autofocus, which is useful to me as I do a lot of portraiture.

To sate my GAS while I wait for the new Pentax, I bought a Fuji X-T3. I thought I would love it, with its "traditional" dials and stuff. But I don't.

Am I weird, because everyone seems to love Fuji.

They might choose Pentax if they want a DSLR. I have been using mirrorless for some time, and yesterday bought a new Fuji X-T3 (which at 899 I think is better value than the X-S10 for me, particularly with firmware 4.0), but I will not give up my Pentaxes as I prefer the OVF experience. I intend to buy the K-3 III when it come out next year.

With regard to focus breathing, I recall a YouTuber who said they could not use Nikon because the standard portrait lens, the 70-200 focus breathed to quite a large degree. At that time, the main Canon portrait camera was the 5d Mark III with 22 Mpx, while NIkon had the 36 Mpx D800. Had he not heard of cropping?

The light enters and leaves the prism perpendicular to the surfaces, so in theory refraction does not take place. In practice, though, I imagine a small amount does take place. I am no expert, so please correct me if I am wrong.

Another rumour site suggested the new camera will be named the K-3 III. K-3s do not have flippy, tilty or any other *y screens, except fixed ones. Of course, I'm guessing, but I see nothing that suggests it will have any sort of movable screen. If it tethers well to a phone, at least there will be some sort of workaround. I wouldn't mind a tilting screen, but it is by no means essential for me.

All this concentration on the viewfinder makes me wonder if the camera has any other innovations to offer. Has the autofocus been improved? What video modes does it have? How many megapixels (not that that is terribly important)? Dynamic range? Connectivity? I must say, seeing what sparse information is coming from Ricoh so far, that I am a bit underwhelmed, and fear that I may be disappointed by the camera when we know its full specifications. I hope I'm wrong: I want a reason to buy this camera over and above what my K-3 II and K-1 already give me.

P.S. I think if the new camera has a tilting screen, we would know by now.

You need a reason??!! Wow, this is a new and alien concept for me. I will have to go away and have a good think to see if I can wrap my head around that ;)

Interesting points. I'm not sure about cameras with reasonably large sensors being as thin as 3 mm, though. The heat produced by the sensor and the processing unit will be an obstacle. Witness the Canon R5, which is a fairly beefy camera, yet overheats when used for 8K video or high rate 4K. I quite fancy the hair clipping function, though.

What if you get a K1 in a K3 APS-C package?

Only yesterday I used this technique to take a photo of a castle when I couldn't physically get far enough back to get the whole edifice in frame. The 16-85 mm lens I was using on my K-3 II wasn't wide enough. As it was raining quite heavily, I didn't want to change lenses, and in any case I don't think my 8-16mm Sigma is weather sealed. Three quick shots, which I later stitched together in Photoshop, and the job was done.

Yes, it would, actually, if you think about it. Depth of field has nothing to do with the size of the sensor (or virtual size).

If the finish is like my silver K-3, it is very well done and a good match for the silver lenses. But, each to their own: there is no accounting for taste.

Dual SD card slots, but no indication if they can use UHS-II for greater speed. Not a lot there that we didn't suspect or know already. It's good that they will be issuing a silver version. I have the original silver K-3 and the finish is a very good match for the silver Limiteds.

My guess is f2.8. The front element looks about the same size as my Pentax-A 20mm f2.8. I could be wrong, of course, but we shouldn't have to wait too long to find out.

Edit: If I ever get out of this *%!^$$ lockdown, I'm in the market for this and the 85mm.
